Petronas Malaysia. Petronas towers in kuala lumpur - the most interesting facts

  • 15.09.2021

One more ... or rather a couple :-)

Before the Petronas Towers, the tallest building was the Sears Towers in Chicago at 443 meters. At first, the Malaysians did not even set out to break this record. But appetite comes with eating, and vertical races began towards the end of construction.

In the place where the towers now stand, the Selangor hippodrome was opened in 1896, but on weekends, on the days of the races, there were such traffic jams on the road that the city authorities moved the hippodrome outside the city. There were many plans for the reconstruction of this - very attractive for developers - territory.

The value of this piece of land was already in the hundreds of millions of ringgit (Malaysian dollars). The project for the development of this huge territory was adopted for several years, since the financial interests of many state and commercial structures were affected. At first, on the site of the hippodrome, it was supposed to lay out a huge park, designed to become the "lungs" of the capital of Malaysia. However, preliminary estimates showed that it is possible to equip and maintain the park only through commercial activities. Therefore, it was decided to design a business center with a park, expand the highways around the park, and build an easy transit railway line. The Malaysian twins were not designed to be the tallest structure in the world.

Eight architectural workshops participated in the tender for the construction of the Petronas Towers. Argentine-American Cesar Pelli won the competition. It is he who owns the project of another famous skyscraper - the World Trade Center in New York. In his works, Pelly always took into account the national characteristics of the country where he was building. So he designed the Petronas Towers for Muslim reasons (the majority of the population of Malaysia is Muslim). The base of the Petronas Towers is shaped like an eight-pointed star - one of the symbols of Muslim culture. The buildings are also crowned with domes that vaguely resemble the outlines of mosques.

Pelly completed hundreds of mockups of the Petronas Towers before creating the final one. Dozens of paper models were used to design the windows alone. As a result, the project was ready, and in 1992 the construction itself started.

The foundations of the Petronas Towers were laid at a depth of over 100 meters - the largest concrete foundation in the world. There was really enough concrete here - for three days, every 90 seconds, it was poured into the base of the skyscraper. A total of 13,200 cubic meters of high strength concrete was used for the foundations of each of the towers. And to prevent the skyscrapers from tilting, like the Leaning Tower of Pisa, 16 23-meter piles were introduced into the foundation. Practice has shown that even strong Malaysian hurricanes are not afraid of Petronas Towers. Skyscrapers will survive even if three of the 16 piles collapse.

The frame of the buildings themselves was made of steel structures, the total weight of which reaches almost 37 thousand tons. Then the Petronas Towers were glazed with tinted windows, protecting from the tropical heat. There are 32 thousand windows in total, with a total area of 77 square meters.

The towers have no central pivot and no extra space. When installing elevators in a confined space, an ingenious principle was used: the elevators were made two-story, two in each shaft: one stops only on even floors, passing odd ones, the other, respectively, only on odd ones.

The towers can withstand even the loss of three of the sixteen supporting columns. Additional safety is provided by an air bridge, placed on giant ball bearings, since the towers swing and the bridge cannot be rigidly fixed.

The unique Skybridge connects the Petronas Towers approximately in the middle. It is now considered the tallest two-story bridge in the world.

On August 9, 1995, at the level of the 41st and 42nd floors of the Petronas towers, a unique bridge was erected, connecting the two skyscrapers. As conceived by the architect Pelly, its construction is not only functional, but also symbolic. The lightweight, graceful bridge connecting the Petronas Towers was designed and built in South Korea by Samsung Heavy Industries. Then it was disassembled into 493 parts with a total weight of 452.64 tons and in the summer of 1995 was transported to Malaysia. In Kuala Lumpur, at the construction site, the bridge was first assembled on the ground and then lifted up. The central section of the bridge consisted of 307 parts. The main part of its structure is 41 m long, 5 m wide, 9 m high, and weighs 325 tons. The two support beams of the bridge are 42.6 m long, each weighing 60 tons. many tests for wind resistance, since it is they that compensate for the effect of wind at high altitudes. The other two blocks are intended to strengthen the bridge at its ends, each of them is 8.3 m long and weighs 30 tons. The total weight of all bridge structures was 750 tons, it was assembled over three days and three nights.

By the way, the Petronas Towers Bridge has become a "movie star" twice. First time in Trap with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones. And the second is in our "Code of the Apocalypse". It was from this bridge that the understudy Anastasia Zavorotnyuk jumped. Moreover, during the jump, the stuntwoman's parachute caught on one of the power lines, de-energizing an entire block of Kuala Lumpur.

Almost all the interior rooms of the Petronas Towers have very high ceilings, on some floors there are peculiar attics that further expand the space. The Petronas Towers are also famous for their elevators. There are as many as 76 cargo and passenger lifts. Most of them are two-story. That is, the first tier of the elevator stops only on the odd floors of the Towers, and the second on the even ones. In addition, the elevators are divided into groups. For example, some run only up to the 16th floor, others go between the middle ones, and in order to climb to the very top, on the 41st floor you need to change trains across the bridge. Petronas elevators are considered one of the safest in the world. They are very spacious - each cabin has a capacity of 52 people. Several years ago, they were also improved in terms of speed: now the ascent to the highest floor of the Petronas Towers takes only one and a half minutes.

In total, about $ 1.6 billion was spent on the construction of the Petronas Towers. The main sponsor was Petronas proper, whose offices entirely occupy one of the towers. Local oil and media tycoon Anand Krishan has borne a large portion of the costs. He arranged a large-scale PR campaign for skyscrapers - even before the completion of construction, various goods with the logo of future skyscrapers were sold to tourists. As a result, his company MIA Holdings also took over part of the offices of the Petronas Towers. Now the headquarters of many other well-known companies are located here, such as Microsoft, Boeing, IBEm, Al Jazeera English.

The ground floor of the Petronas Towers houses a concert hall with 840 seats and an art gallery. There is also a six-level shopping center with a spherical roof, which is visited by 650 thousand people a week. Local attractions include the Gasoline Museum.

In addition, the city has fulfilled its promise and a huge park has been created around the Petronas Towers. There is a children's pool, many sports grounds, attractions and fountains. A mosque and a local philharmonic hall were also built on the territory adjacent to the skyscrapers, where most of the notable cultural events take place.

As the Petronas Towers got taller, the builders wondered if they could break the world record. But in the end, the skyscrapers of Kuala Lumpur turned out to be 88-storey, and were inferior to the 110-storey Sears Towers by more than 65 meters. But then the resourceful Malaysians decided to attach spiers to the towers, 73.5 meters each. Due to this trick, the Petronas Towers snatched the cherished 7 meters from an American competitor.

But the record for the height of the Petronas Towers was kept only until 2003. Immediately after construction, the Australians and the same Americans joined the high-altitude race. The championship again remained with Asia. In 2003, the Taiwanese "Taipei 101" shot up 508 meters. However, the first line in the Top of skyscrapers and he did not keep it for long. Now the tallest building in the world is the Burj Dubai Tower in the UAE. Moreover, the Arabs apparently got a taste of high-rise construction. The next in line is a new tower - Al Burj, in the project its height should reach 1200 meters. Against this background, the Petronas Towers look more modest. But beauty does not suffer from the loss of the height record.

Visiting the sky bridge
The Sky Bridge of the Petronas Towers has been open to the public since May 2000. The visit is paid, or, in the early hours, you can stand in line for free tickets.
Days of visit: Tue - Sun (closed Mon)
Visiting hours: 9:00 am to 7:00 pm (closed for Friday prayers from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm)

Ticket issuance: From 8:30 daily, except Mon

On the very first day after the night arrival, we decided to visit Petronasy and Menaru... First of all, we stomped to the Petronas, from Chinetown this walk took us about minutes 30-45 at a calm pace, we walked by Bukit Bintang, using a KL card, which was taken at some hotel, from a girl offering excursions. We arrived there at 11 o'clock in the morning, and we were told that there were no tickets and, if you want to get there, you need to buy them in advance. And it's not a fact that they will be the next day. Fortunately, we went on the very first day, otherwise we would not have got to Petronasy. So, if you are thinking, consider this fact.

So the tickets are worth 10 ringgit(about 100 baht) - only on Sky Bridge, 40 ringgit(about 400 baht) - for Sky Bridge and Observation Deck Ringgit 200 for Sky Bridge, Observation Deck and lunch, Ringgit 350 for Sky Bridge, Observation Deck and Set Chinese-Japanese-Western Dinner (i.e., dinner of your choice). We bought tickets for 40 ringgit.

Visit appointed only for a certain time, of course, first they will ask if it is convenient for you. The very procedure of visiting the Petronas Bridge and the Observation deck lasts only 30 minutes: 10 minutes to the bridge and 20 minutes to the observation deck.

This is not very pleasing: you do not have time to see everything, look closely, tinker with the camera, choose the angles, because you have to hurry, or rather, you do not have to hurry yourself, but the organizer rushes you. By the way, the time is so limited due to the fact that the next group of tourists should come. But despite the fact that their brochure states that they work from 9 to 19, tickets start selling from 8.30 and visits are carried out only a few times a day (about 3). Monday - day off.

1. Petronas is 88-storey skyscraper.

2. Its height - 451.9 meters.

3. In terms of the complex is two eight-pointed stars but the architect added semicircular ledges for stability.

4. For the construction was assigned 6 years(1992-1998).

6. Towers were built by two different companies to create competition and increase productivity.

7. Piles driven to a depth of more than 100 meters - the largest concrete foundation in the world.

8. The area of all premises of the building is 213,750 square meters, as area of 48 football fields.

9. The tower is present 765 stairways.

10. Parking at the towers is 5,400 spaces.

11. The towers themselves occupy 40 hectares in the city.

12.From 1998 to 2004 years they were considered tallest buildings on earth.

13. The main customer is the state oil corporation Petronas.

14. Construction cost - 2 billion ringgit (800 million dollars).

15. A covered walkway in the form of a bridge ensures the fire safety of the building.

16. Washing 16,000 windows of one tower takes a month.

17. The towers employ 10,000 people.

18. Each tower weighs 300 tons.

19. Entrance to the Air Bridge became paid on October 1, 2010, until that time the observation deck was not allowed at all.

20. Each tower has 29 high-speed passenger elevators and 10 escalators.

In film "Trap" with the participation of Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones, thieves commit a computer theft of eight billion dollars from the largest bank in Petronas on New Year's Eve 2000, and then try to escape, moving from one tower to another using a festive illumination suspended from a bridge.

In film "Code of the Apocalypse" with Anastasia Zavorotnyuk, the champion of Russia (understudy of the heroine Zavorotnyuk) in skydiving, jumping from the tower bridge between the 41st and 42nd floors (height: 170 meters).

In the documentary series "Life after people" the towers are mentioned twice: 75 years later (the gallery between the skyscrapers collapses downward) and 500 years later (one tower collapses and touches the other, leading the entire complex to destruction).

So, we bought tickets and had to come to Petronas in a day, by 17.00 pm. And we came, we weren't even late. Inside, Petronas is completely executed in the same style as the outside. Everything is glass-stone-metal, all around are escalators, stairs, handrails, everything is shining, shining, shining.

We waited for some time until the previous group came out and we were launched. Our expectation took place in a small room, one might say, a museum dedicated to Petronas. At least not boring. We were not able to photograph, since it is very dark there, but we managed to shoot something with the camera. The room has screens with photographs of buildings, stories about how they were built, a demonstration of building structures in miniature, there is such an attraction: check how many times Petronas is taller than you, I liked the corner with puzzles, where there are several tasks that you need do it ourselves, for a long time we stood over an empty cube (with an open top wall), into which we need to fit several square volumetric figures so that none of them climb out beyond these walls of the cube, but, in the end, we succeeded. To have an idea of what kind of museum it is, those who are interested can watch the video:

Malaysia has a large state-owned oil and gas company, Petronas. Once the owners thought - there is a decent profit, but there is no decent office. In the race for the tallest skyscraper in the world, Malaysian oil and gas companies decided to double the tallest building at that time - the 442-meter Willis Tower in Chicago, and in 1998 built two super-high-rises at once - the Petronas Twin Towers. Yes, by the way, they thought about the architecture - for the building plan they took an eight-pointed star (a symbol of Islam, as the prevailing religion in Malaysia) as a basis, but there was no need to puff over the name. Petronas Towers is an excellent public relations company name.

We went to the twins twice on the first day of our stay in Kuala Lumpur. In the morning we went to watch, then we looked at the Petronas Twin Towers in the afternoon, took a walk in the KLCC park, and when it got dark we returned to see the skyscrapers with evening illumination, as well as enjoy the fountain show.

Petronas Towers in Malaysia: interesting facts

  • Each tower has 88 floors.
  • Twin Towers are 451.9 m high.
  • The Petronas Towers are the tallest twin towers in the world.
  • Construction costs were about $ 800 million.
  • Twin towers have double-decker elevators (one stops only on odd-numbered floors, the other, respectively, on even-numbered floors)
  • Instead of the steel usual for the construction of skyscrapers, special concrete was used in the Petronas towers, which had a high plasticity, while strength was achieved by adding quartz.

I think many people watched the movie "Code of the Apocalypse", where Anastasia Zavorotnyuk (or rather her understudy) jumped with a parachute from the skyscrapers "Petronas Towers" in Kuala Lumpur. By the way, during that jump, the power line was accidentally disrupted, so that the neighboring area was left without electricity. Let's hope that the inhabitants of the "dirty mouth" (and this is how the name of the capital of Malaysia is translated) are not particularly offended.

Yes, and Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones in the movie "Trap" during the robbery of a steep bank in Malaysia did not disdain to ride on a garland, like on vines in the jungle, from one Petronas tower to another.

There is a great view from the side of the park

Day and night

Climbing the Petronas Twin Towers

A visit to the observation deck of high-rise buildings will cost 80 ringgit (≈920 rubles). You will be told a short story about the creation of skyscrapers, lifted to the 41st floor on the bridge connecting the Petronas Twin Towers, and then to the 86th floor. The visit is open from Monday to Friday from 9.00 to 17.00 and is limited in time and number of applicants.

We did not climb the Petronas towers and are not going to, because there is a TV tower nearby, the 6th highest in the world. So, I think it will be more interesting to get there, but this is already in the frame of our next trip to Kuala Lumpur 🙂.

Urbana parkKLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Center)

The KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Center) park is located on the southeast side of the Petronas Twin Towers.

It is based on reservoirs: a pond and a pool.

Against the backdrop of motionless skyscrapers, it feels like you are on the shore of a mountain lake against the backdrop of rocks. Of course, nature is nature, but still.

And then I was even upset that I was already a very big girl and I could not frolic in this pool 🙂. It's great when such conditions are created for children!

In the evening, a fountain show is held here. We were around 22.00 and found this beautiful sight:

Petronas Twin Towers and KLCC park: how to get by transport to Kuala Lumpur

To orientate Petronas Twin Towers on the Kuala Lumpur map:

The Petronas Twin Towers can be reached with the popular KL LRT light rail line to KLCC station, or the KL Monorail monorail train to Raja Chulan or Bukit Nanas stations. Both of these vehicles resemble a subway, except that the monorail hovers on reinforced concrete structures above the ground, and the LRT is most often below it. From the large junction station KL Sentral, the fare for LRT will cost 1.8 ringgit (≈21 rubles), for monorail transport - 2 ringgit (≈23 rubles).

At first we tried to go on the monorail, but literally in front of our noses, there were some problems on the line, and we went to the LRT, which we then used, because the station was located near our place of residence near ChinaTown (I wrote about this at the end). And once we even walked from here to Petronas.

A ticket for LRT transport in Kuala Lumpur is purchased from special machines at the stations. In fact, everything is very simple and intuitive there: you select a station on the map, put in money, get change and a token. Put the token on the turnstile in front of the entrance, save it until the end of the trip, and at the turnstile at the exit, throw the token into the slot. So the electronics will check whether you entered / exited there.

Yes, you can also get there by buses, but this already needs to be clarified at your hotel or with passers-by.

With open mouth they looked at the Petronas Twin Towers

The twins in Kuala Lumpur PETRONAS Twin Towers were the unrealized desire of the collector of impressions from the skyscrapers of the world.

At the end of 2015, I climbed the Menara, but I could not climb Petronasy, because I had to buy a ticket in advance.

By the way, a ticket can be bought on the official Petronas website - petronastwintowers.com.my. The best time to visit is at 6 yesterday. Because the excursion lasts only an hour and, in fact, you cannot prolong it in any way. And arriving at 18:00 or 18:15, you can catch the city during the day, see the sunset and capture the night a bit ...

The Petronasa Towers are located in the heart of the capital of Malaysia:

The towers are visible from anywhere in the city, and therefore can be easily reached on foot from the nearby area. You just need to go in the direction of the buildings, unless of course you are too far from them. For example, from the Chinatown region of Kuala Lumpur, you will have to walk in the scorching heat for 20-30 minutes, although in a straight line the distance is only 2 kilometers. If you are staying in Bukit Bintang, then the towers will be within walking distance.
If you do not want to go on foot, then the easiest way to get there is by taxi or by public transport in Kuala Lumpur. The metered taxi ride from Chinatown will cost you about RM15 (depending on the time of day and traffic, the price may vary). Close to the towers is the Kuala Lumpur metro station KLCC (Kelana Jaya line). The nearest monorail station, Bukit Nanas Monorail, is a 15-minute walk away.
Those tourists who have not planned a visit to Kuala Lumpur have the opportunity to look at the towers, having reached them from Kuala Lumpur Airport. The easiest way to do this is by taxi, but it can be done a little faster by metro, but only during the day. To do this, you need to take the KLIA Express airport train from the airport, which will take you to the KL Sentral station in 28 minutes and 38 ringits. There you need to change to the city metro on the Kelana Jaya line and get to the KLCC station for 1.6 ringit. From there the towers are within walking distance.

A little help from Wikipedia:

Petronas towers is an 88-storey skyscraper. Height - 451.9 meters. Located in the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. The eighth tallest buildings in Asia (tallest buildings on the continent from 1998 to 2003), the tenth tallest buildings in the world, tallest twin towers in the world from 1998 to the present. The design of the skyscraper was attended by the Prime Minister of Malaysia Mahathir Mohamad, who proposed to build buildings in the "Islamic" style. Therefore, in the plan, the complex consists of two eight-pointed stars, and the architect added semicircular protrusions for stability.

The construction took 6 years (1992-1998). The towers were erected by two different companies to create competition and increase productivity. In the course of geological surveys, it turned out that the proposed construction site is located in one part on the edge of the rock, and the other on soft limestone. After the construction of such heavy towers in this place, one of them would inevitably sag. As a result, the buildings were completely transferred to soft soil, shifted by 60 meters, and piles were driven in to a depth of more than 100 meters. It is currently the largest concrete foundation in the world.

It differs not only in its colossal size, but also in the complexity of its design. The area of all premises of the building is 213,750 m², which corresponds to the area of 48 football fields. The towers themselves occupy 40 hectares in the city. The Petronas Towers houses offices, exhibition and conference rooms, and an art gallery.

The construction of the Petronas Towers cost the main customer, the state oil corporation Petronas, 2 billion ringgit ($ 800 million). Some of the costs were borne by other Malaysian firms, who shared the office space of the two skyscrapers. It is interesting to note that the towers are connected by a covered bridge in the form of a bridge, which ensures the fire safety of the building.

For the construction of the towers, only materials produced in Malaysia were to be used, so it was impossible to provide the builders with the necessary amount of steel. Especially for the Twin Towers, a particularly strong yet flexible concrete was developed that could be produced in Malaysia. The Petronas Towers were built from it. The skyscraper turned out to be twice as heavy as similar steel ones. The towers employ 10,000 people.

The basis of the structure is not light steel, which is too expensive for Malaysia, but special elastic concrete, comparable in strength to steel. The concrete, due to the addition of quartz, had to withstand a pressure of ~ 137 MPa. During construction, one built floor had to be dismantled due to poor-quality concrete.

The towers accept visitors only in a certain number and at a certain time. You can get to the towers on weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm. Ticket sales start at 8:30. Friday is a shortened working day due to Friday prayer. A mini-tour, including a short story about the construction of the towers, a visit to the observation deck on the 86th floor and the bridge between the towers will cost 85 ringgit. Independent visits to the observation decks are not provided.

The towers can withstand even the loss of three of the sixteen supporting columns. Additional safety is provided by an air bridge, placed on giant ball bearings, since the towers sway and the bridge cannot be rigidly fixed.

In the culture of Petronas, the following played a role:

  • In The Trap, starring Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones, thieves computer steal $ 8 billion from the largest bank in Petronas, Malaysia on New Year's Eve 2000, and then try to escape, moving from one tower to another on a suspended the bridge of festive illumination.
  • In the computer game Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, the action of three missions ("Murder in the basement", "Night shift" and "Work in the jacuzzi") takes place in the hallway, basements and apartments of one of the towers.
  • In the game Zero Tolerance on missions High Rise Floor and Sub-Basement, the action takes place in one of the towers and, accordingly, in its basement. On the other tower, an alien sniper sat down and fired at the player on the roof. In the lower basement levels, the solid quartz concrete foundation can be seen heating and cracking under the tower's weight.
  • In the film "Code of the Apocalypse" with Anastasia Zavorotnyuk, the champion of Russia (understudy of the heroine Zavorotnyuk) in skydiving makes a jump from the tower bridge between the 41st and 42nd floors (height: 170 meters). The scene was filmed with eight cameras, one of which was mounted on a helicopter. Not without excesses. During the execution of this extremely extreme jump, the understudy Zavorotnyuk caught a parachute on a power line, as a result of which she left one of the Malaysian streets without light. Stunts, chases and shootings in skyscrapers were filmed for five days.
  • In the documentary series Life After People, the towers are mentioned twice: 75 years later (the gallery between the skyscrapers collapses downward) and 500 years later (one tower collapses and touches another, leading the entire complex to destruction).
  • In Roland Emmerich's blockbuster "Independence Day: Rebirth", towers lifted into the air by the gravitational field of an alien ship fall on Tower Bridge in London, with each of the twin towers destroying each tower of the bridge, respectively.
  • The towers became the filming location for Philip Kirkorov's video "Give me freedom" (2002) and the video for the Disco Crash "If you want to stay" (2005)

Near the towers themselves, a gorgeous park and a singing fountain were laid out. From above, it looks impressive:

First, you are lifted to the same bridge between the towers. The two-story bridge connecting the Petronas Tower (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) was erected in the summer of 1995. The bridge was designed and built in South Korea by Samsung Heavy Industries, then dismantled and transported to Malaysia. It was assembled on the ground at the construction site and then raised to the level of the 41st floor (170 m). Bridge dimensions: length 42 m, width 5 m, height 9 m. Support beams have a length of 42.6 m. The total weight of the bridge is 750 tons.

From there, the view is simply amazing:

From one of these windows you can see the whole of Kuala Lumpur:

Almost all the interior rooms of the Petronas Towers have very high ceilings, on some floors there are peculiar attics that further expand the space. The Petronas Towers are also famous for their elevators. There are as many as 76 cargo and passenger lifts. Most of them are two-story. But beauty does not suffer from the loss of the height record.

And a little story on the video, how it all happened:

The Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur () are perhaps the same symbol of Malaysia as the Moscow Kremlin and Red Square in Russia. Initially, we planned to devote only a couple of hours to the famous twins, but somehow unnoticed for ourselves we spent the whole day there. So what were we doing there ?!

First, we admired the famous towers. We have already written more than once that we like to find something very-very, here Petronasy is just from this series.

Judge for yourself: height 451.9 meters... The ninth tallest building in Asia, and until 2003 it was generally the tallest. Until last year, it was 8th, but another Chinese skyscraper pushed the position of the Petronas. By the way, China has the largest number - 43 buildings taller than 300 meters... 10th tallest building in the world. The tallest twin towers in the world today. An impressive list of "cool".

Near the towers, there is a small cozy park with an artificial lake, playgrounds, swimming pools, jogging tracks and marked points from which the most interesting view of Petronasy opens.

The twins in the area of 41-42 floors are connected by a bridge SkyBridge, which, if desired, you can climb. The entrance ticket costs 85 ringgit(about 1360 rubles). Opening hours from 9:00 before 21:00 daily except Monday. On Fridays, the bridge is closed from 13:00 before 14:30 because of namaz (Malaysia is a Muslim country).

Tickets at the box office start selling from 8:30 , but it is more convenient to buy them in advance at www.petronastwintowers.com.my. But even with online tickets, get to SkyBridge will be very problematic - the queue is gigantic, albeit perfectly organized.

We thought that we were not at all eager to waste time on this, we decided to devote it to the largest shopping center in Petronas. This is one of the coolest shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur. And after almost a year spent in Indian and Nepalese town-villages, it makes an absolutely stunning impression. Food courts, restaurants, shops, a scientific and entertainment complex - we were sucked in ☺.

Despite all the pretentiousness, most of the stores turned out to be more than affordable. And the prices in some of them are lower than in Russia or Thailand. Show-opping! ☺

It's amazing how different the impression the towers make in daylight and evening light is. During the day they seem simply high, and at night - monumental and majestic.

Seeing the Petronas Towers in the evening light is a must do in Kuala Lumpur.

And besides that, in the evening you can watch a rather colorful, but short light and music show of fountains. It starts in the area 20:00 , but there is no more accurate information, as it gets dark enough - this is how ☺ begins.

Many locals come to the fountains with food and arrange impromptu picnics to the accompaniment of the fountain's romantic melodies.

And lastly, some additional information on how to travel and what else you can do in the Petronosov area.

How to get to the Petronas Twin Towers: take the metro and go to the station KLCC automatic line Kelana jaya... You can also get to the station Ruja chulan monorail lines, then along the covered galleries about 700 meters and you are there. Read more about transport in Kuala Lumpur.

More things to do in the KLCC area:

1. Visit one of the coolest oceanariums Aquaria KLCC, if not all over the world, then in Asia for sure.

  • Adult ticket price: 64 ringgit(about 1025 rubles);
  • Mode of operation: with 10:00 before 20:00 , the latest visitors are launched in 19:00 ;

2. In the evening, when Petronas gets bored, take a walk to the street Jalan P. Ramlee and it's good to hang out there in local bars and clubs, because Kula Lumpur is a city that never sleeps ☺.

Hello friends. The famous Petronas Towers or Petronas Twin Towers are the beauty and pride of the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. They were built to surprise the world - and the builders succeeded. The Twin Towers are the first high-rise buildings in the country. Stylish, modern, striking the imagination - this is not just a visiting card or a miracle of architecture, it is an ambitious and bold application of the people - to become an Asian economic leader in a short time.

Malaysia. Capital city of Kuala Lumpur. City center. Petronas Twin Towers.

Since the Petronas Towers represent the apotheosis and symbol of an economic miracle, we cannot do without history.

We have written about other sights of Kuala Lumpur.

A bit of history

Until August 31, 1957, the country was a British colony. The capital of the state, which translates as "Muddy Water", was a small settlement where local residents were engaged in tin mining.

Oil reserves were discovered in the country, then everything changed, the Malay Federation proclaimed its independence, the ideologist and founder of the modern Abdul Rahman proclaimed a political credo: We must be practical. We want to live in peace and do worthy deeds.

Six years later, in 1963, Singapore, North Borneo and Sarawak joined the Federation. At the same time, in honor of the unification, the particle "zi" was added to the name "Malay", and the country began to be called Malaysia.

In 1965, Singapore left the union and began to develop independently.

We must pay tribute to the country's leadership - they did not build economic development only on the sale of oil, tin and rubber. Western investors were attracted to the country in large numbers and on favorable terms, heavy and light industry, electronic technologies, and the service sector developed. The country has set its sights on the production of its own goods and the minimum import of foreigners.

Twin towers construction

In the 90s of the XX century, it was decided to erect the first high-rise buildings in the country, and in the shortest possible time and they should become the tallest in the world. Construction started in 1992 and was completed 6 years later in 1998.

For comparison, the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York took longer to build: the project was adopted in 1962. Excavation work began in 1966. The towers were officially opened in 1973.

So, the main customer for the construction of the Towers in Kuala Lumpur was the state-owned Malaysian oil and gas corporation Petronas.

During the construction, difficulties were discovered - the soil in this place turned out to be unstable and the already built part of the structure had to be moved 60 meters.

$ 800 million was spent on the construction of the towers.

Petronas Towers

As a result, the world's tallest twin towers were born. Everyone learned about the country. Malaysia has established itself as the most successful and wealthy country in the Asian region.

The tallest buildings in the world (clickable picture)

Tower parameters:

  • Height 452 meters
  • Number of floors 88
  • If you look at the towers from above (this can be easily done in the museum of towers), then two eight-pointed stars are visible. This feature was introduced into the project at the request of the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
  • During the construction, exclusively Malaysian materials were used.
  • The towers have the most powerful concrete foundations in the world, and the pile depth is 100 meters. Since the towers were built without the use of lightweight steel, only from Malaysian concrete, they turned out to be 2 times heavier than they could have been.
  • At a height of 41 floors, there is the Sky Bridge. It serves as a viewing platform and serves as an emergency exit in case of evacuation.

  • The Sky Bridge is reinforced with articulated (not rigid supports) as the tall buildings of the towers sway.
  • Another observation deck is located on the 86th floor.
  • If you add up the area of the inner rooms of the towers, you get 48 football fields.
  • Washing 16,000 windows in one tower takes 1 month.
  • 10,000 people live and work in the towers.

How to get to the observation deck

On the 1st floor, tickets for an excursion to the Twin Towers are sold, but there is one "but", which I will discuss below.

The tour includes the Sky Bridge, an observation deck on the 86th floor, which is also a museum of towers.

You will have a companion throughout the tour. Everything goes on schedule "without a hitch." You will be faced with fantastic implemented technologies from the image of a speaking guide hanging in the air to the ability to see the Petronas Towers from above, just by spinning your ticket in front of the screen.

Street view

Lake view in front of the towers

You should definitely go to the towers. First, get acquainted with technology, and second, to see Kuala Lumpur from a bird's eye view.

And now about tickets:

Tickets can be bought on the first floor of the towers, but not for the current day, but for the next, and it is not a fact that there will be seats on it.

The queue to the tower of those who have already bought tickets

There are many who wish. We found a situation when all the places for the excursion were sold out 2 days in advance. Therefore, - book a ticket to the observation deck through the official website. In advance.
