temporary test version

Kobuleti (ქობულეთი) - Adjarian city, district center and resort, 9 kilometers of hotels, beaches and restaurants. The main competitor of Batumi, its budget counterpart. Almost 20,000 people live here and an additional huge number of tourists from Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia. Here you can live and swim, from here you can go to the national parks of Mtirala and Kintrishi or visit Batumi.

History

Kobuleti’s history is not very rich. It is believed that even in the Stone Age there were some settlements here - somewhere in the neighboring swamps. In 1998, an Anglo-Georgian archaeological expedition began excavations of the Pichvnari settlement, where traces of an ancient ancient Colchis city with an unknown name were found. The finds are now kept in the Batumi Archaeological Museum. Marketers tend to attract Pichvnari by the ears to the history of Kobuleti, although in essence they are completely different settlements.

In the Middle Ages, Gurians could live here, with the Turks almost nothing happened here, and in the era of the Russian Empire, something like a railroad sanatorium appeared here (1904). In Soviet times, Kobuleti received the status of a city (in 1944), and huge motels and hotels began to be built north of Kobuleti. In the 1990s, they were abandoned, and then they began to slowly, very slowly reanimate. In October 2010, Kobuleti was declared a Free Economic Zone, where investors were exempted from taxes and began to give them land for free, subject to investment of 1 million GEL and higher. But still, in 2016, undeveloped land remained in the city.

Modernity

Modern Kobuleti is a very long city. It has three main longitudinal streets: Embankment, the central street of David Agmashnebeli (= David the Builder) and Rustaveli street. Rustaveli plays the role of a detour, and Agmashenebeli - the main street of the town. Some of the hotels face the embankment directly, but most of them are on the Agmashenebeli. The space between the embankment and Agmashenebeli is mainly parks and hotel areas. Agmashenebeli houses are numbered from No. 1 to approximately No. 800. The eastern side is even, so Kobuleti has a length of 400 houses and any place in the city can be tied to some house number. This is convenient for organizing meetings.

Kobuleti can be divided into three zones. South Kobuleti - this is the space from the Kintrishi river to about house number 206 in Agmashenebeli. This is, in fact, the city itself with dense buildings and streets. Central Kobuleti - this is the space from the house No. 206 to the abandoned Kolkheti Hotel - this is the zone of Soviet sanatoriums. North Kobuleti - It’s like the outskirts. A forest belt stretches along the sea, and along the Agmashnebeli there is a private building. There are restaurants in the forest belt.

The main part of the city is cutting. You can walk on it for 3-4 hours one way. She seems endless. In the southern part, it is raised high above the level of the beach, and then gradually decreases and already in Central Kobuleti, the ground level is flush with the beach. On this embankment built cafes, restaurants and hotels. Their level is very different, from the European "with cappuccino" to the dull Soviet with instant coffee. There are also stands offering excursions to the different boring places of Adjara in bad Russian. Russian language dominates on the Batumi embankment.

In season, life on the waterfront begins at about 9 a.m. and ends at about 8 p.m.

There are people who love Kobuleti. But some are depressed in it by the atmosphere of a cheap resort: cheap hotels, cheap entertainment, cheap restaurants, cheap swimwear and a dull family cheap life. It is served with pasta with cheese, buckwheat and meatballs. They play "The Best Day" and "Victory Day". It makes sense to go here with family, but it makes little sense to go, for example, with girls.

Here you can rent a room with windows on the sea for 20 GEL per person, and for 35 breakfast will be added there (pasta with cutlets). And this is not bad if you grew up on Kirkorov and Petrosyan, or if you are an enlightened ascetic who can abstract from folk culture.

South Kobuleti

Southern Kobuleti is the southern 2 kilometers of the city. It starts from the Kintrishi River; 700 meters north of the river is the Kobuleti railway station, and next to it is the bus station. This is where all the minibuses come. The square in front of the station is an important logistics hub. To the south of it is the road to Batumi, to the north - to Ozurgeti, to the northwest - the streets of Agmashenebeli and Rustaveli. All that is west of the station and the Agmashenebeli are schools, a hospital, and all sorts of city buildings. And here, where Agmashenebeli goes to the embankment, here is where the zone of hotels and restaurants begins. Here the embankment begins.

If you decide to live in a hotel in South Kobuleti, then keep in mind that you will actually live in the city. There will be city bustle, cars, dense buildings, shops and many people.

Central Kobuleti

The most interesting in central Kobuleti is its park. It is wild in places, but cultivated in places, decorated with flowers and playgrounds. This is a fairly large space for walking, and it houses the most important public catering of Kobuleti - restaurant "Sunset". This is a beautiful restaurant with a good design, and, most importantly - very large. There is even a stage for artists. Prices are generally the same as everywhere in Kobuleti.

Kobuleti Park is interesting pier, which is located on the beach right from the sea. This is the very pier from which the "resort" scenes of the film "Love and Pigeons" (1981) begin. From this pier Kuzyakin-Mikhailov falls into the sea, meets Gurchenko in the water and gets out of the water back to the pier. The skyscraper of the Kolkheti Hotel is visible in the background.

The symbolic end of Central Kobuleti is the skyscraper of the Kolkheti Hotel. Once it was the prestigious Intourist, but now it’s a terrible monster that investors haven’t reached. They wanted to sell it back in 2004, but only recently (according to rumors) Kakha Kaladze, a football player and Minister of Energy, bought it. It is difficult to say when this building was built - probably in the Brezhnev era, in those very years when the Pizunsky skyscrapers and the Tbilisi “Adjara” appeared. But they survived difficult times, but Kolkheti could not. Now a huge skyscraper and restaurant complex are a terrible monument of the era when the state was rich and the people poor.

North Kobuleti

If you imagine Kobuleti as an animal, then the northern part is its tail. The whole space between the sea and Agmashenebeli is represented here either by a park, or by a wild forest. This is a place for picnics, tents and restaurants. Urban infrastructure is almost absent. If you need a restaurant surrounded by pine trees and bushes without city noise and dust - here you are. If you need to put up a tent - here you are.

This part of Kobuleti is the most neglected. Here stood the most enormous sanatoriums, which then fell into decay and no one has managed to cultivate their territory to this day. But just north of these Soviet monsters there were once wastelands, and now there are small decent decent hotels. And there it’s quite nice.

The resort is located in georgian Autonomous Republic Adjara, on the Black Sea. It is the center of the Kobulet district. Kobuleti is a small city, about 19 thousand people live in it. The region is connected with the civilized world by rail and road.

In the days of the USSR had the status of one of the best Soviet resorts on the Black Sea. In these years, the best years for the resort, a lot was built here sanatoriums and holiday homes. Most of them belonged to the military department. The resort's infrastructure has been well preserved, but the events of recent history of Georgia, and especially Adjara, have scared away potential guests of the resort. Compared to the last decades of the last century, the flow of tourists arriving on holidays in Kobuleti, decreased by several orders of magnitude. (In fairness, it is worth noting that in recent years, things in the local tourism industry have begun to improve, and resort hotels again the polyphony of the Armenian, Azerbaijani, Belarusian, Russian and Ukrainian languages rang).

Holidays in Kobuleti today is a choice of several sanatoriums (including two for children), holiday homes, boarding houses and of hotels. Tourists are attracted by a healing subtropical climate, an excellent beach, and exotic nature. In pine and cedar groves, in shady city alleys, you can meet not only idle vacationers, but also people who have chosen Kobuleti for healing. Sanatoriums of the resort specialize in the treatment of diseases of the cardiovascular system, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, pulmonary diseases and disorders of the nervous system.

The resort of Kobuleti is again young, or rather, rejuvenating: in recent years, restoration and repair work has been actively carried out in the old buildings, new hotels and pensions are being built. This is facilitated by an understanding of the tourist importance of the region by the Georgian government: in October 2010, the country's parliament passed a bill “ About the free tourist zone of Kobuleti". By this law, investors who invest in infrastructure development are partially exempted from taxes (allocated area - 11.4 hectares). According to this law, a person who invested in the construction of hotels at least 1 million lari is exempted for 15 years from property and profit taxes. The state will also not remain aloof from the "large construction site": the laying of water, gas, electricity and roads will be carried out at its expense.

Climate Kobuleti

The subtropical climate makes holidays in Kobuleti fabulous. You can come here at any time of the year: in summer, the average air temperature is in the range from + 25 ° C to + 28 ° C, in winter it rarely drops below + 5 ° C. Snow in Kobuleti is a rarity, as is the sweltering heat. The proximity of the sea and its "breeze" ventilation make it easy to bear even critical heat. In the evenings, cool mountain air descends into the city, carrying forest volcanoes and the secrets of the night Caucasus ... If you have a desire to climb the mountains, do not forget to throw warm clothes in your backpack: the temperature changes sharply in the mountains.

The swimming season begins in May and lasts until the last days of October. During this period, the average water temperature is at + 25 ° C.

Kobuleti Beach

Beach in Kobuleti pebble, beautiful and ... dirty. However, recently local authorities have been actively fighting for order, and I want to believe that clear sea water will soon begin to lick clean beach pebbles again.

As for the equipment, there are umbrellas and sun loungers here, and on the back line there are a number of bars and cafes. “Beach pleasures” are presented in a minimal set:

 • scooters;
 • inflatable slides;
 • boats;
 • boats.

Holidays in Kobuleti - This is a great opportunity to combine business with pleasure: a beach holiday with wellness. , Ureki and Batumi are the first three “healing” sea resorts of Adjara. The natural healing factors of the resort of Kobuleti are not limited to the gentle waves of the Black Sea. A special, truly life-giving, microclimate reigns here: sea ions and ethereal substances soar from the mountain forests descending to the resort. Food in Kobuleti

If you want to get carefree holidays in Kobuleti - Stay at an all-inclusive hotel. Three times a day nutrition, snacks in the room ... But at the same time, of course, the price of pleasure is disproportionate to the level of service. Most vacationers in Kobuleti prefer to solve culinary issues on their own. Places where you can eat tasty and inexpensively - the darkness is dark. Lunch for two, with large portions (salad, two first, two second, beer or wine) will cost 25-30 GEL. In all places and "places" they cook differently, and you should not eat in one cafe: Georgian cuisine is a gourmet's paradise, so go around, try real Georgian barbecue (mtsvadi), kharcho, khinkali, khachapuri and, of course, wine . Wine choose a factory draft or homemade wine. Local Batumi beer also tastes good, like the local soft drinks (especially Tarhun). Georgia is famous for its mineral waters. In Kobuleti, you can easily find them: “Embank”, “Borjomi” and “Likani”.

Fruit prices are quite affordable: peaches - 1.30 GEL per kg, watermelons - 0.5 GEL per kg.

Shish kebabs are cooked here "for real": the meat is not soaked in marinade, but fried fresh on skewers or in ketsi (a clay plate-pan). A feature of local cooking is organic food. Whatever you buy - suluguni cheese, meat, vegetables - rest assured that they are 100% natural. There are no industrial enterprises around, cows grow on natural feeds, without chemicals and compound feeds, hens are only domesticated.

You can have fun deciding not to have a snack on the coast, but rising higher in the shady coolness of the forests. Moving away from the coast, you will be surprised to find the houses of local villages scattered on the hills. Between them, icy mountain rivers with waterfalls and bends flow to the sea. In these picturesque places there are small restaurants in the open air. They may look different, and yet they are interconnected by cordiality with which an amateur “chef” will serve you. A typical representative of such an “institution” looks like this - a wooden flooring, thrown from one shore to another, directly on it - tables and chairs. Nearby, between the stones, there is a barbecue, where barbecue is prepared to the sound of the river. Crystal air, fresh vegetables, a mountain river, cold wine and hot meat - an unforgettable experience.

A Brief History of Kobuleti

Holidays in Kobuleti from a historical point of view, it is a mental communication with the spirit of the past, peacefully dormant in the vicinity ... The territory of modern Kobuleti was inhabited by the Gurians in time immemorial. In the gorge of the Kintrish river, scientists discovered traces of human activity of the Mesolithic and Neolithic eras. In Kobulet peat bogs, the archaeologists discovered the secret of an ancient settlement of people dating back to V-III millennia BC. Excavations confirm the existence on the site of today's ancient city, closely connected with economic and cultural ties with other regions of the Black Sea region. When these territories were transferred to the Russian Empire, the best land plots began to be handed out to the generals and the district was called Generalsky. Soon the town "overgrown" with new houses and cottages.

In 1904, the Society of Batumi Doctors promoted the opening of a climate station in Kobuleti. This year can be considered the year of birth of the resort. In 1911, the first small nursing home... When Adjara became part of a large Soviet country, work began on turning Kobuleti into a full-fledged resort. Sanatoriums, cultural and educational institutions, and rest houses were built. Kobuleti is becoming the district center of a large agricultural part of Adjara. The events of the end of the last century negatively affected the life of the resort, but, as mentioned above, the authorities are taking serious steps to revive it.

Listening to the memories of our compatriots about holidays in Kobuleti, and indeed about holidays in Georgia, you are pleased to note the flow of positive intonations. Georgia is trying its best to return vacationers to its resorts, and it succeeds well: everyone is greeted as a dear guest, they are helped with questions and are led almost by the arm around the country ... Well, if you are taken along Kobuleti main street, it will take a long time to go: this is one of the longest streets of the former USSR. Imagine: fourteen kilometers south of Georgia, relaxing on the Black Sea! Would you like to walk around ?

Municipality of Kobuleti, Georgia, is an area in Adjara, where the seashore is located for 23 km, of which about 10 km are located directly on the territory of the city. The area of Kobuleti can be described quite simply - a densely built-up area by the sea and mysterious desert mountains with a chic reserve.

The resort includes only parallel 2 streets, each has a length of 9 km. The pearl of the city is a long coast with a sandy and pebble beach, for the sake of which tourists come here mainly. The main advantage of the resort town is the lack of a large number of people on the beach. Here you can at any time find a cozy place for solitude or just a relaxing holiday.

Despite the small flow of tourists, the resort of Kobuleti has a rather highly developed infrastructure. In the town you can find a large number of hotels, guesthouses, various cafes and restaurants. Since Georgia is quite compact, it is not difficult for guests of the country to visit a large number of sights of the country by car or even just go to neighboring Turkey. The most popular among travelers are the Botanical Garden and the nearby Makhinjauri, where you can treat various diseases with the help of mineral waters.

The beach is the best advantage of the town

The real highlight of Kobuleti is the beach. Since it relates directly to the city, the city authorities monitor its cleanliness. On the beach of the city, trash still needs to be searched. The coastline is carefully cleaned both early in the morning and late in the evening.

History of Kobuleti in Georgia

The history of the city of Kobuleti dates back to ancient times. As excavations have shown, man chose this territory as far back as the fifth millennium BC. During this period, on the site of modern Kobuleti was a thriving metropolis, whose economy and culture were closely intertwined with other Black Sea cities. It was through this city that the trade route connecting Crimea and Persia passed. The story of Kobuleti as a health resort began on the contrary not so long ago - only a hundred years ago the first hydropathic center was opened here. It is from this period that the development of modern Kobuleti begins, as a resort of all-Union significance. For some fifty years, the city of Kobuleti has grown significantly and expanded, there appeared a huge number of pensions and rest houses, intended mainly for high authorities. After the collapse of the USSR, the city of Kobuleti managed to maintain its former glory. To date, the Georgian government has even created a free tourist zone here to attract as much investment as possible. Today Kobuleti can be called a high-class holiday destination, with many modern hotels and pensions.

Georgia, Kobuleti - attractions

 1. One of the main attractions of Kobuleti is its wonderful pebble beach. The length of the beach is about 10 km, each centimeter of which is covered with small pebbles. Of course, the quality of the beach varies slightly in its different sections - somewhere the pebbles are smaller, and somewhere practically turns into cobblestones. But one thing remains unchanged - transparent, crystal-clear sea water. On the beach, you can easily rent everything you need for relaxation: deckchairs, umbrellas, catamarans, jet skis. Those who wish can visit beach cafes and bars, as well as “set fire” at the beach disco.
 2. Not far from Kobuleti is the Kintrishi mountain reserve, where everyone can go on an excursion. During the tour, you can visit this paradise of wildlife, where forests, lakes, rivers and mountain waterfalls have remained untouched.
 3. Bored kids and adults will be helped to break the longing by a fun amusement park called "Tsitsinatela". In the firefly park, and this is how the name is translated, guests will find many interesting entertainments: attractions, cafes, discos and fun music. The park does not stop its work at night either.
 4. Those who came to Kobuleti to improve their health can not do without visiting mineral springs located just two kilometers from the city. Water from these sources will help normalize

When I, as a travel agent, studied the sea resorts of Georgia, for the first time I heard such names - Kobuleti, Ureki.

Moreover, all the advice regarding these resorts usually came down to the following thought: only mothers with children who need a calm and inexpensive vacation by the sea should send it. And all other tourists should definitely be sent to Batumi .

We personally made sure that Batumi will please the eye and become a vivid impression for tourists. We share our findings on Batumi here:

After Batumi, we planned to visit Kutaisi, and the road there just goes through the resort villages of Kobuleti and Ureki. So, I got a chance to form my opinion about these places.

After the elegant Batumi, other resorts will seem to us a remote village ...

Kobuleti: beach holidays, hotels, photos

We left Batumi after lunch. First passed makhinjauri district, which is also often recommended for a budget holiday. Oh, no, I wouldn’t like to rest here - some endless little houses-sheds-fences ...

Kobuleti - the second most popular (and size) city on the Black Sea coast of Georgia. The climate of this part of the coast can be called ideal: in winter there is practically no snow, and in summer there is no strong heat, thanks to the sea breeze.

It is believed that in Kobuleti there is a cleaner beach with small pebbles, and the sea is cleaner than in Batumi.

Well, I don’t know ... When we went to the beach - to take a couple of photos - we were dumbfounded: I saw such a lot of garbage on the beach only once in Adler, after a severe storm! There was not even a desire to come closer to the sea.

Perhaps such a picture on the beach in Kobuleti that day was also the result of a storm that was yesterday on the entire coast in the Batumi region. Or in the low season, just nobody bothers with cleaning the beach ...

Again, according to guides and reviews on the Internet, the holiday season in Kobuleti begins in May and ends in October. Those who wish to relax during the "velvet season" are recommended to come in November. All the photos that you see in this article are taken at the end of September. And as you probably noticed, the beach people in Kobuleti are not visible at this moment:

Only the boats lying on the shore reminded that more recently they swam in the sea, sunbathed and had fun on water attractions ...

By the way, don't be fooled by the sand you see in this photo. Closer to the water you will not see it, and the entrance to the sea will also be pebble. Pebbles on this part of the beach were maybe the size of an egg, and in the most remote areas it can look like cobblestones.

With us, no one swam in the sea, and only rare tourists walked along the promenade.

By the way, the promenade of Kobuleti is considered to be healing, due to the fact that a pine grove adjoins it. Many people come to Kobuleti just to walk along the promenade, breathing in the healing air.

It cannot be said that it is well equipped, but it has its own special atmosphere: the renewed sections of the promenade, lined with restaurants and new hotel buildings, alternate with semi-abandoned territories.

Even in season, life on the embankment begins at about 9 a.m. and ends at about 8 p.m.

Where to stay in Kobuleti

In Soviet times, here in Kobuleti, began to build resorts and rest homes. Their bodies, sticking out on the shore, amid a pine grove, give Kobuleti just a portrait resemblance to the coast of Pitsunda.

But this resort began to enjoy real popularity only in recent decades. Therefore, the vast majority of offers for accommodation in Kobuleti are represented by mini-hotels, apartments and guest houses.

Of the hotels, these are good options: Hotel Amigo I, Castello Mare Hotel & Wellness Resort, Kobuleti Pearl Of Sea Hotel & Spa, Okro life.

And these apartments will be a good option for families with children and friendly companies: Apartment Alex, Zuras Apartment Kobuleti, Inga’s Apartment.

Kobuleti Infrastructure

In general, in Kobuleti there are only 2 streets, they are located parallel to each other and stretch for 9 km in length, parallel to the beach and the promenade. Central Street, as expected, is at the mercy of cafes, restaurants, bars, discos and other tourist establishments. They have a very different level: from the European “with cappuccino”, to the dull Soviet with instant coffee.

To be honest, those Kobuleti districts that went along the sea can be called resort resorts very well. Yes, I understand that it was the end of September, and we did not have to expect a beautiful resort atmosphere. but still I would definitely get bored here even in season ...

But I also noticed - and it was a plus - that everywhere is very clean and tidy.

What to do in Kobuleti

In 2 kilometers from Kobuleti there are mineral springs. Water from these sources is used for drinking treatment of the digestive system, for metabolic disorders, as well as for diseases of the excretory system, liver, etc.

Amusement park "Tsitsinatela" is also located outside the city and begins to work only in the evening.

For those who do not know how to stupidly lie on the beach for two weeks, the following information will be useful: near Kobuleti there are two beautiful natural parks - mtirala National Park and kintrish Nature Reserve . You can go there with excursions for a full day.

History buffs will be interested in visiting Peter Fortress which is located near the resort. Sometimes it is also called Petra Tzikhe, it consists of a citadel and ancient settlements and is of historical and archaeological value.

Also, while relaxing in Kobuleti, you can get to know better resort Ureki . By and large, this is the most ordinary village. And the only thing worth looking at is black magnetic sand. A lot has been written about its useful properties, who are interested - read on the Internet.

Our resume by Kobuleti

Kobuleti resort has many advantages: it is quiet and calm, clean and beautiful, a wide beach and a clean (according to reviews) sea. A lot of greenery. And most importantly - adequate prices.

Of the minuses - a small variety of entertainment. But for some tourists this is not very important.

In general, your perception of Kobuleti will depend on your mood. There are people who like him (and when I wrote on my instagram that they were unlikely to ever have a choice - or Kobuleti, many asked me why, why didn’t I like cute Kobuleti?)

But some (including me) are depressed by the atmosphere of a cheap resort: cheap hotels, cheap entertainment, cheap restaurants, cheap swimwear and a dull cheap family life.

By the way, when we had already left Kobuleti in the direction of Kutaisi, we saw a fruit seller on the side of the road, decided to stop to find out the prices.

It turned out - everything is even more expensive than in Batumi ... Well, and who are they counting on here with such prices in the off-season?

In general, the taste in color, as they say, has no comrades. I will be glad to know your opinion about Kobuleti. For sensible comments - plus 5 points to karma ;-)
