They write that: Hisarya is located at an altitude of 364 m above sea level at the southeastern foot of Srednaya Gora. The city is located 165 km from Sofia and 42 km from Plovdiv. It is known for its many parks and meadows. Hisar has regular bus connections with the cities of Plovdiv, Karlovo, Panagyurishte, Strelcha, the village of Krastevich and other small villages in the region. The city is the final railway station on the local railway line Dolna mahala - Hisar (a branch of the Plovdiv - Karlovo railway line). The bus station and train station are located nearby in the western part of the city.

They write that: Hisarya is a flourishing town and resort of great importance for Bulgaria. There are more than 20 mineral springs in the city. The temperature of the mineral water ranges from 24 to 49 degrees C. One of the sources is with radioactive water. Also, healing mud is mined here, and the quality of the healing process is improved through mud therapy. Hisarya is famous for its beautiful parks with a total area of 100 hectares of land. The first park, built in 1892 near the former Topolitsa mineral bath, is the work of the Swiss engineer Shevalias. Beautiful parks are located at the spring "Momina Banya", near the Summer Theater, as well as on the territory of the medical and rehabilitation base of the Ministerial Council. Particular attention is drawn to the Camel Gate (Kamilite) - a rift in the middle forms the silhouette of camels looking at each other. The resort component is extremely wide-ranging. But with particular success in Hisarya, urological diseases, diseases of the liver, gall bladder and gastrointestinal tract are treated. Mineral springs were discovered by the Romans, and the emperor Septimius Severus was even treated with the waters.

Reviews about the resort Hisarya

“Very clean and well-groomed, green city, modern houses and historical monuments get along well. We walked with pleasure, drank the famous water, climbed the ruins, entered cafes. It is a pity that the museum of kidney stones (which, as they say, is dissolved "at once" by local water) was closed.

I will briefly finish about "what I liked" (I, apparently, exhausted the text length limit in "what I liked", and there my stream of words was stopped)) The Hisar Hotel fully met our expectations. He, the parks of Hisarya, blooming at this time and full of birds, water springs, the ruins of a Roman fortress and so on create a wonderful atmosphere for a leisurely "resort" holiday. 5 - maximum 10 days is quite enough - you will leave calm, healthier. "MINUSES". 1. It can be seen that the hotel as a whole and the equipment of the rooms are many years old. Someone this style of the 80s of the 20th century will annoy. We are not here, but I warn you ... 2. On weekends, a lot of people come and it becomes a little more noisy. 3. The audibility between the rooms is "Bulgarian" (those who have been to hotels in Bulgaria will understand). With all my desire, I can’t remember the “negative” anymore. Last 2018 we were in another hotel (also 4 stars, junior suite, not far from Hisar). Almost the same prices, but the difference (in favor of "Hisar") is undeniable. Would definitely recommend. If you have any questions, I will answer with pleasure, and about Bansko too. Sincerely, Vladimir

Good day to those reading this review! My wife and I stayed at the Hisar Hotel in the Deluxe Building from March 16th to 26th, 2019. We came from Bansko, where we spend several months in winter and summer in the mountains (skiing, hiking in summer). In Bansko-sport. In Hisar, complete relaxation + mineral water for internal organs and appearance)). Specifically about the hotel. 1. Friendly, to varying degrees Russian and English-speaking staff (when ordering, we made a mistake, ordered a double room, but for one. Everything was instantly corrected, recalculated, the price changed by a penny, and the question was closed). 2. Lovely spacious room with a loggia and a view of the vastness of Bulgaria with mountains on the horizon. Bathroom with shower and bathtub, heated. Daily (we refused) change of bathrobes and towels. Nice bedding. Small refrigerator. It is for the minibar, but there is plenty of free space for your "food" if you don't want to go to a restaurant. 3. Breakfasts - for every taste. Standard European snacks + a couple of soups + honey in combs + pancakes + (for ns it was a pleasant surprise - we are vegans) lean menu (delicious porridge, excellent boiled vegetables, etc.). And lunches, although the choice was minimal, 4-5 dishes, quite solid, edible food in large portions (and again, soup and the second was a lean option). A wonderful indoor pool: 25 meters, 6 lanes, about 2 meters deep. In general, standing in it and conducting endless conversations (as is often the case) in it will not work. Just swim, which we did in the morning (12 double pools, 600 meters, per car, throw a glass of mineral water, and at 9-15 for breakfast). On the street there are two outdoor pools and a jacuzzi. One was being renovated, the other was working. People were sunbathing and swimming. The Deluxe building had its own separate spa: infrared and steam baths, an ice room, a path with nozzles and pebbles at the bottom with contrasting temperatures, a "vertical jacuzzi" shower, a pool with mineral water, and more. Not our style, but we began to walk and got used to it)))!

Town near Plovdiv. This is a famous balneological resort and tourist attraction in Bulgaria, because there are many attractions and hot mineral water.

The balneo resort of Hisarya is one of the very ancient Bulgarian settlements. There was a fortress here, and it was pretty well preserved. "Hisar", in fact, is translated as a fortress. True, in that distant year 293 the city was called Diocletianopol... The settlement itself has existed since the 5th century BC.
Bulgarians claim that there are 22 springs with thermal water on the territory of Hisarya. Personally, I saw one, so I can't say anything here. In the sense of two, but the same composition.

The western gate of the fortress. The height of the wall reaches 12.5 meters, the width is 2.6-4 meters. There are 44 towers, 4 gates and 6 small entrances in total.

The city itself is to my taste - for I love ruins and fewer living people.

To be honest, in terms of the degree of neglect, it is no different from, but in all other respects these are very different cities, starting from the climate and relief.

The entrance to the park and the rotunda izvra Momina Sles- the source of the Maiden's Tear. In 1882 the first chemical analysis of mineral water in Bulgaria was made - it was the water in Hisarya and from this date the beginning of the Bulgarian official balneology can be considered.

All these photographs were taken inside the fortress - the city is spreading far beyond its borders. Which, however, does not make it big - only 7000 population.

Late Roman public building.

This is, in my opinion, the most beautiful and well-groomed part of the whole city. Archaeological park complex. It is available for free viewing, and it is indeed the greenest and most beautiful place in the whole of Hisarya. Behind the fortress walls, by the way, it is as if the steppe begins - there are very few trees, greenery and the scorching sun.

There is absolutely nothing to do here if you do not receive treatment. It is full of mineral beaches of all stripes. For example, at the Hisar hotel.

Former baths

By the way, the mineral water in Hisarya is very diverse in its composition and temperature. The indications for treatment are so wide that I don't even want to list it here, in a nutshell - it cures everything!

Roman baths.

Amphitheater.

Another source is the Maiden's Tear. Prettier, more comfortable and more equipped. But people crowd around the round rotunda in the Colonnade.

Poppies. By the way, mid-May.

A fortress wall around the perimeter of 2,327 meters - just imagine a town within 20 hectares.

This is the main South gate of the fortress.

Hisarya is located in the Plovdiv region near the city of Karlovo (20 km), where they make good cosmetics from roses, and only 42 km from Plovdiv, so the nearest airport is Plovdiv's Krumovo, and then in.

You can also get to Hisarya by intercity bus and train (to Plovdiv).

A resort town in Bulgaria, which has long been famous for its mineral springs, which have a healing effect on the body.

It is located only 42 km from Plovdiv, so it will not be difficult for tourists to reach it.

It is interesting that Hisar in Bulgaria is a very ancient resort: the first settlements discovered here date back to the times of the Thracians. It should be noted that some interesting historical sights that tourists can see in Hisarya have survived to this day.

The resort boasts 22 mineral springs, the temperature of which is + 37-52C. It is noteworthy that the climate of the Hisar resort is very favorable for health.

Another "highlight" of the Hisar resort in Bulgaria is its versatility: here you can recover from almost all existing chronic diseases. In particular, here they successfully treat diseases of the stomach, liver, infertility, skin diseases, etc. Thus, by visiting the resort of Hisar, you will be cured of a "sore" that has tormented you for a long time.

In Hisar, there are comfortable hotels of mainly 3-4 * categories, there are excellent restaurants and bars. A visit to the Hisar resort is good for the soul and health - we recommend that you make sure of this on your own experience.

Hisar: tours and activities

This is a sightseeing tour of the town, the premises of the ruins of an ancient fortress, a tour of the Hisar Archaeological Museum.

We recommend that travelers go on an excursion from Hisar to the village of Starosel. It was here in 2002 that archaeologists discovered an ancient temple that was erected by the Thracians in the 5th century BC. Interestingly, during the excavations, scientists discovered a real treasure - gold and silver, weapons, clothes made of expensive fabrics.

In addition, it is interesting to visit the grave of Sitalker, the famous Thracian king (3 km from the ruins of the temple in Starosel).

Hisar's story

The history of Hisar began in ancient times: it is known that the emperor Diocletian ordered in 293 to enclose the lands with a fortress wall that has survived to this day, after which the Romans declared these wonderful places of grace as their private property. Then the city was called Diocletianopolis. Interestingly, the story ...

Hisar, city and resort

Hisar (Hisarya) is one of the most famous and largest balneological resorts in Bulgaria. It is located in the central part of the country, on the southern slopes of the Srednyaya Gora mountain range, 170 km. from Sofia and 42 km. from Plovdiv . The mountains protect it from the cold northerly winds. Therefore, autumn and spring are warm here, and winters are mild. A temperate climate, beautiful nature, rich mineral springs, archaeological sites of European importance and hospitable people - all this attracts tourists from different countries. The population of the city, which is about ten thousand people, increases several times during the tourist seasons. Unfortunately, little is known about this city.

And we got to this wonderful Bulgarian town by chance, on the advice of friends, trying only to get medical treatment and relax in nature from the everyday city bustle. However, what we saw exceeded all our expectations. The air here is not just fresh, but, forgive the banality, delightful. He was really thirsty. The reason for this is understandable. The city is surrounded by mountains at an altitude of about three hundred meters above sea level and is surrounded by greenery of perennial trees. It could rightfully be called a city - a park.

Trees are carefully looked after here. All of them are under protection. The park has a special tablet that shows a map and characteristics of the most remarkable trees.

Most of them are marked with special plates, which indicate the name of the tree, age and other data. Therefore, the park area of Hisar can be called a large botanical garden. About three hundred species of plants grow in it.

In ancient times, a Thracian settlement existed on these lands. In its place in the 1st century AD. e. The Romans who came here, next to the thermal springs, founded their administrative center here, called Augusta. It was destroyed and burned during the Gothic attacks at the end of the 3rd century AD. e. The restoration of the city is associated with the name of the emperor Diocletian, after whom it was named Diocletianopolis. The city was built in accordance with all the building rules of the Roman Empire and is surrounded by a fortress wall up to 4 meters thick and more than 2300 meters long. The height of the walls reached 11 meters. Many sections of this wall still exist in one way or another.

The importance of the ancient monuments of Hisar is so great that in the city with a population of about ten thousand people, its own archaeological museum has been created, which has a large collection of archaeological and ethnographic finds.

It received its current name "Hisar" under the Turks. Hisar means fortress. This name was given because of the many fortress fragments in the city. The main gate, which served as the entrance to the fortress, was the southern one, called "Kamilite" (camel), because over the years their shape began to resemble the figures of these animals.

300 meters south of the fortified city, there is a Roman family tomb from the 4th century AD, to which a scenic trail leads. The corridor and walls of the tomb are covered with paintings depicting roses, and the floor of the burial chamber is covered with colored mosaics.

One of the city's biggest attractions is the presence of more than twenty mineral water springs with different physical and chemical characteristics and temperatures from 41 to 52 °. All water is slightly mineralized, clear, colorless and pleasant to the taste. It has a variety of healing properties. Water is used both for drinking and for the treatment of a wide variety of diseases, including diseases of the respiratory and digestive systems, musculoskeletal system, renal-urological and many others. The biggest proof of the healing power of Hisar mineral water is the kidney stones that came out during and after balneological procedures. They are kept in the local museum. Among the 12 thousand of its exhibits, you can see the largest kidney stone in Bulgaria, weighing 560 grams! In some sources, there is an increased content of radon. The advantages of these mineral springs were appreciated even by the Romans, who in the fourth century A.D. e. began to build here large bath structures, the remains of which have survived to this day. The largest springs, where water is used for drinking and healing, are "Maiden's Tear" and "Maiden's Bath". Touching legends are associated with their names.

One of them tells that during the period of the Turkish yoke, a local rich ruler fell in love with a young and beautiful Bulgarian, gave the girl expensive gifts, but could not get her favor. Then the rich man decided to take revenge on her. He made a rich feast, to which he invited all the noble nobles, and ordered the beauty to undress and deliver a tray of sweets to the guests. The girl carried out his order, after which she killed the ruler by dropping a heavy tray on his head. For this she was burned alive. When the flame engulfed the girl's body, two warm tears streamed down her face. At the same moment, a hot spring began to beat out of the ground, which people called "Maiden's Tear". Now a beautiful structure has been built around the spring.

This legend is embodied in the city center in a fountain - a statue of a naked girl with a tray in her outstretched arms

Another legend tells about the Maiden's Bath spring. The daughter of a local ruler loved to swim with her friends at the source outside the fortress walls. Once the city was attacked by enemies, and the fortress gates were closed.

The girls preferred to drown themselves in captivity in a warm spring. Tradition says that even now at night you can hear the splash of water here. These are the girls coming out of the source. Today the spring is surrounded by a pavilion.

The Colonnade became the emblem of the city.

Built in 1960, it is an exact replica of the Roman colonnade. Its vault depicts the ancient deities of health and the main crystals contained in mineral water.

They say that the water from this spring has a beneficial effect on the eyesight and therefore you can often see people washing their eyes near it.

The city is kept clean and tidy. Particular attention is paid to the park area and the preservation of the ruins of the fortress walls and ancient buildings from further destruction. There is a constant construction of new buildings and houses. In the park "Orpheev Dol" in the post-war years, a summer theater was built in the style of antique amphitheaters.

The houses are being built according to new modern projects.

At the same time, here you can see a large number of old dilapidated buildings and neglected land plots, which no one looks after.

This is mainly due to the fact that the enterprises and houses nationalized at one time were returned to their former owners, or rather to their heirs, most of whom do not have the means to maintain them. Many buildings fall into disrepair and are gradually destroyed.
