Beautiful beach Cyprus how to get there. Cyprus beaches on one page

  • 24.07.2021

Cyprus has many great beaches. It is not surprising, therefore, that most of the tourists come here precisely for them - the beautiful beaches. The swimming season in Cyprus sometimes lasts six months, and in August-September the water in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of the island warms up to 27-28 degrees. Almost all the beaches, which will be discussed below, are marked with the "Blue Flag", which testifies to their cleanliness and excellent ecology.

So what is important to know about the beaches of Cyprus? Firstly, all local beaches are municipal and free. You can rent sun loungers and sun umbrellas almost everywhere on the beach, but at the same time you can come to the beach with your own bedding and an umbrella in complete peace of mind (and for free!).

Secondly, all the beaches of Cyprus are very different, and before you book a hotel, check if the nearest beach is right for you: there are secluded and calm beaches on the coast of Cyprus, and there are those where music thunders from morning until late at night. and parties are interrupted literally for a few hours of dawn.

It is believed that the best beaches in Cyprus are in the resorts of Protaras and Ayia Napa, however, everyone has different tastes and preferences, and it is better to know in advance about all the alternatives available.

Ayia Napa- a resort with a vibrant nightlife: parties and clubs are there - literally at every turn. Parties on Nissi Beach start practically in the morning. However, the resort is very well planned, so that all the clubs are located in the depths, and the beaches are on the coast. Therefore, even with children it will also be very comfortable to relax here (just don't miss the choice of the beach!)

Protaras ideal for those who are looking for a relaxing family vacation (and, perhaps, will be boring for those who like active recreation).

Larnaca- the most budgetary and quietest resort in the whole of Cyprus, there are wide beaches and a comfortable, gentle entrance to the water. There is one drawback - perhaps someone will not like the planes approaching and taking off literally overhead. The sea in Larnaca is warmer than in Ayia Napa and Protaras (sometimes the water in August can warm up to 28 degrees, which seems to be “too much”: it is already difficult to refresh yourself in the heat in water of this temperature). The sand in Larnaca and Limassol has a gray tint, which makes the sea seem less turquoise than in Ayia Napa and Protaras.

Limassol- the largest of the resorts in Cyprus. There are a lot of restaurants, clubs and other entertainments, luxury hotels, but the coast is not so picturesque. Paphos beaches- mostly stony. Not at all suitable for families with children. But it is able to please divers and, in addition, in Paphos - the most luxurious sea sunsets on the island.

Ayia Napa beaches

Nissi Beach(Nissi Beach) in Ayia Napa

This white sand beach near Ayia Napa is arguably the most famous in all of Cyprus. In terms of importance for the entire eastern part of Cyprus, this attraction can be compared with Copacabana for Rio de Janeiro. The "highlight" of this beach is a small picturesque island in the sea, which can be reached by a sandy spit. Nissi Beach has many hotels, excellent infrastructure and a relaxed atmosphere. True, at times the music rushing from the speakers can seem unnecessarily intrusive.

At the same time, the beach infrastructure and the range of entertainment on the beach are beyond praise!

BeachGrecian Bay(Greek Bay) in Ayia Napa

It is located practically in the very center of Ayia Napa, next to the 5-star hotel of the same name and next to the port. The fine golden sand makes this beach a popular destination for families with children. Here you will not find such revelry and fun as at NissiBeach, but after all, not everyone travels to Cyprus for round-the-clock parties and new acquaintances.

The beach is well equipped. Mainly guests of first-class hotels located along the beach rest here.

Kermia Beach(Kermia Beach) in Ayia Napa

The beach is located three kilometers from Ayia Napa, in fact, between Ayia Napa and Protaras, on the western shore of Cape Greco. It is small, sandy and very uncrowded, calm. From Ayia Napa to the beach you can even walk along the footpath that leads from the port along the coast. If you come here by car from Ayia Napa, the beach is located to the right of the highway. And between the highway and the beach, there are numerous bungalows at the Kermia Beach Bungalow Hotel.

Makronissos Beach in Ayia Napa

Spacious (as much as 500 meters in length), one of the most calm, comfortable, and at the same time clean and beautiful beaches in Ayia Napa. "Wonders?" - you ask. It's true! This state of affairs is explained by the fact that the beach is located at a distance of about 5 km from the center of Ayia Napa, and the parking lot near the beach is very small, and during the season it fills up to capacity from the very morning. So we recommend arriving here (unless, of course, you are guests of the nearby hotels “Dome Beach” and “Asterias Beach”) we recommend early in the morning.

There are no noisy beach disco parties here, but there is a good bar, and those who wish can play volleyball and do water sports. There is even a Diving center on the beach, not to mention the usual beach infrastructure - sun loungers, umbrellas, changing cabins, showers, etc.

The fine sand and the gradually deepening bottom make this beach a suitable place for families with children.

Protaras beaches

Fig Tree Bay(Fig Tree Bay) in Protaras

Dream Beach in Protaras - in 2011, according to Tripadvisor, the beach entered the TOP-3 of the best beaches in Europe and still rightfully bears the proud title of the best beach in Cyprus. A wonderful, almost white, sandy beach with clear water stretches along the coast for 500 meters. It is well equipped: showers and toilets, cafes and restaurants, sun loungers and umbrellas for rent, a large parking lot. If you are going to come here, keep in mind that the beach is very popular, and by noon all the sun loungers and umbrellas will be occupied. So I advise you to come early.

Konnos Bay(Konnos Bay Beach) in Protaras

A small beach (200 x 40 m) with golden sand, located in a cozy bay 2 km southeast of Protaras (i.e., between Protaras and Ayia Napa).

Due to the fact that the beach is located on a rocky hill, the descent into the water here is quite steep, and the coast is rocky in places. Therefore, the beach is not suitable for vacationers with small children. But it is an ideal place for lovers of diving and snorkeling, as well as jumping off the rocks. High waves are very rare here, because the bay is protected from the wind from both sides.

Even in the high season, you will not find a large and noisy crowd of tourists here.

On the beach there is a rental office for umbrellas and sun loungers (sun loungers here, rather, resemble plastic "troughs" in which you can not only sunbathe on the beach, but also swim on the water), a lifeguard tower, beach activities (quite traditional: boat trips and water views sports). The parking is located on a hill, about 100 meters from the beach. There are cafes and restaurants nearby, as well as several hotels.

The extreme points of the beach are more secluded, where you can feel complete unity with nature, peace and quiet. From the beach, a narrow and winding path leads to picturesque caves, where in ancient times, according to legend, the Cyclops, one-eyed monsters, lived here.

Also nearby is one of the most popular dive spots in Cyprus - ConnosPoint - I recommend it!

Louma Beach in Protaras

The beach with deep golden sand (hence its second name - Golden Coast) is located in the central part of the resort of Protaras, near the "Golden Coast" hotel. The bay is protected from the wind on both sides, the entrance to the water is very comfortable, so the beach is recommended for vacationers with children.

Here, the entire beach infrastructure is available - rental of sun loungers and umbrellas, showers, toilets, cafes. Part of the beach is shaded by fig trees.

Sunrise Beach(Sunrise Beach) in Protaras

All Protaras beaches are equally good for families, including families with children, but the sandy Sunrise Beach is considered one of the most luxurious and well-equipped. This is not surprising - because the beach is located near the complex of the same name of 4-5-star hotels “Sunrise Beach”. In fact, this beach is an extension of Fig Tree Bay and then becomes another beach. As a result, in Protaras, a long strip of beaches stretches along the entire coast, for many kilometers.

Just above the line of the beach "Sunrise Beach" there is a promenade-promenade with an abundance of shops and souvenir shops, taverns and beach bars. There is also a large supermarket here.

The beach has a well-developed infrastructure: rental of umbrellas and sun loungers, showers and toilets, a playground, a lifeguard tower, playgrounds for sports games. Also, beach guests have access to such entertainment as diving, boat trips and yachts, an abundance of traditional water attractions and entertainment.

The beach and the seabed in this area are fine sandy, and the entrance to the water is shallow.

Flamingo Beach(Flamingo Beach) in Protaras

The beaches of the resort of Protaras are simply ideal for families. The central beach of this resort is the "Flamingo" beach - with the most developed infrastructure and an abundance of entertainment. Swimming here will be comfortable even for the smallest, because the descent into the sea is gentle, and the water near the coast warms up perfectly. The beach is surprisingly clean and the seabed is sandy, so there is no need to purchase special beach shoes like for pebble beaches.

For many who have visited the beach "Flamingo" resembles the coast in Jurmala, but here it is even more beautiful. Scenic green slopes overgrown with grass descend to the water itself, and you can hide from the sun here not only under umbrellas, but also in the shade of trees. Umbrellas and sun loungers and umbrellas can be rented here. The beach has showers, toilets, changing rooms. This beach is especially recommended for families, and is very popular not only among tourists, but also among locals.

Larnaca beaches

Faros Beach(Beach "Faros") in Larnaca

This wonderful beach with a grayish "mix" of sand and sandstone is protected from the waves by a breakwater that comes close to the shore and forms an ideal swimming pool for babies.

The beach is located in the town of Pervolia, in the vicinity of Larnaca, on the picturesque Kiti peninsula. There is enough space for everyone: even at the peak of the season, the beach is not crowded with vacationers.

Keep in mind that there are two beaches with this name in Cyprus. (The second one is located in Paphos). The word "faros" is translated as "lighthouse". Indeed, on the western side of the Kiti Peninsula, there is a working lighthouse. So you can go to this beach not only for romantic photos, but also to get to know more about such an important phenomenon for everyone who dreams of the sea, like a lighthouse.

Like all the others listed in this article, Pharos Beach is a Blue Flag holder for its cleanliness and environmental friendliness. The infrastructure of the beach corresponds to: the beach is equipped with sun loungers and umbrellas, rescue towers, there is a volleyball court, you can rent sports equipment.

The address: Faros Beach, Kiti Peninsula, Larnaca.

MacKenzie Beach(Mackenzie Beach) in Larnaca

The main "feature" of the Mackenzie beach is the runway of Larnaca airport located literally 100 meters from it. Hardly anyone wants to come here every day, but to visit it to, as an exotic, once enjoy the view of the planes landing directly above you, if you have not seen it yet, is definitely worth it!

The beach itself is long and beautiful, there is no hustle and bustle here. The entrance to the water is shallow, and the sea is clean. McKenzie, like most other beaches in Cyprus, is awarded the Blue Flag and is well equipped with sun loungers and umbrellas, showers, toilets, changing cabins and a variety of water attractions.

Limassol beaches

Ladies Mile(Ladys Mile)

Definitely the best beach in Limassol (located west of the city on the Akrotiri peninsula) and the largest beach in all of Cyprus. It is worth getting to it from the city center. The cleanest water, warm sea, showers, toilets, sun loungers and umbrellas for rent, children's water attractions, a lot of cozy cafes and restaurants with affordable prices.

Next to the beach is a British military base, to which the beach owes its romantic name: it was named after the horse named Lady, which belonged to the commander of the base. The Limassol Salt Lake is also nearby.

Governors Beach (Governors Beach, or Governor's Beach) in Limassol

This incredibly beautiful beach is located 20 km east of Limassol and 40 km southwest of Larnaca. Here you will find an almost alien landscape of miniature black sand beaches, separated from each other by cliff cliffs made of white sandstone. The only thing that slightly spoils the view here is the buildings of the military base, which starts practically outside the territory of the beach.

The beach got its name in honor of the British governor of the island, who spent several hours a day relaxing on this picturesque beach (oh, my friend had a dusty job!)

Kourion beach(Kourion Beach)

The picturesque beach of Kourion, about 1 km long, near the village of Episkopi, is the Cypriot "mecca" of all kite and wind surfers. For mere mortals, this is just a well-equipped beach with clear water, framed by picturesque high white cliffs. There are sun loungers and sun umbrellas, changing cabins, toilets, showers. Lifeguards are on duty throughout the swimming season.

Nearby there is a luxurious amphitheater and the whole archaeological complex of Kourion, with perfectly preserved mosaics.

Polis beaches

Latchi Beachin Polis

Latchi was once a small fishing village, but today it is a great place for a beach holiday. The beach is probably not as photogenic as the famous beaches of Protaras and Ayia Napa (because Latchi is a small pebble beach of a dirty gray color), but Latchi is an ideal place for everyone who is tired of the hustle and bustle and does not find the desired rest in crowded popular resorts. Here you can spend time calmly and alone, be alone with nature (the sea here is the purest, magnificent turquoise color!) And your own thoughts.

The beach is well equipped: there are showers, toilets, platforms for easy entry into the water, a path for people with disabilities, sun loungers and umbrellas for rent.

Latchi is located on the picturesque Akamas Peninsula, near the city of Polis.

The coastline of Latchi stretches for 1.5 km and smoothly (almost imperceptibly!) Turns into the Polis beach. The beach strip is wide - 30-50 m. The parking lot is separated from the beach by green vegetation. Breakwaters protrude 50 m from the coast, thanks to which there are no strong waves and underwater currents. In addition, you can sunbathe on the breakwaters, enjoying complete privacy.

The descent into the water is smooth - this is a big plus if you are relaxing with children. The depth begins at a distance of about 7 m from the coast. The water here is always well warmed up, especially in the season.

Paphos beaches

CoralBay(Coral Bay Beach) in Paphos

The crystal blue Coral Bay in Paphos is, strictly speaking, not in the city itself, but thanks to the well-organized bus service and large parking, it is convenient to get here.

The best beach in the vicinity of Paphos.

By the way, the yellow sand, thanks to which Coral Bay is so popular with tourists and locals, is brought here from other beaches of Cyprus. In about 20 years, the sand on the beach is completely renewed (as the sea is gradually washing it out of here).

Petra tou Romiou in Paphos

This bay in the suburbs of Paphos is one of the most beautiful and famous places in Cyprus. It was here, according to legend, that the sea Aphrodite emerged from the foam, and here since then in the water lies a picturesque rock - "Aphrodite's stone".

The beach here is pebbly, but thanks to this, the water is azure blue and very clean. The sea is not safe here, so jumping off the rocks is not recommended, but swimming around the “stone of Aphrodite” three times is recommended for everyone: women - for eternal beauty and youth, men - for inexhaustible strength, and lovers - for eternal love.

Lara Beach (Lara Beach)

Lara is the most "turtle" beach in Cyprus. This rocky beach is located north of Paphos, in an area reachable only by 4WD SUV. You probably shouldn't go here just for the sake of swimming, but lovers of wildlife in the appropriate season can discover a lot of interesting things here: this truly reserved corner of the Mediterranean is full of turtle nests, and rare white-bellied seals hide from prying eyes in its coastal caves.

Travels

It is not surprising that a huge number of tourists come here. It should be noted that the tourism industry in Cyprus is the main source of income for the island... Most of the population works in this sector.

Over the past few years, the number of tourists has increased by almost 30% and income by 40%.

There are several large resorts in Cyprus. Among them: Larnaca, Paphos, Limassol, Ayia Napa and Protaras.

Most of the beaches in the Republic of Cyprus are municipal, and there is a separate fee for the rental of sun loungers and umbrellas.

Konnos Bay Beach

Also on Protaras you can find another beach, which is unlikely to be suitable for a family vacation. It is very rare in such places to find wild beaches where there are no conveniences we are used to.

But if you want to relax in a quiet, uncrowded place, then welcome to Konnos Bay beach, which is located in a bay 2 km east of the center of Protaras. This beach is located between Protaras and Ayia Napa, and there is hill adorned with greenery.

Like the previous beach, Paramali is little known. However, it is very beautiful secluded beach next to tangerine and lemon gardens.

The name of the beach comes from a small island, which is connected to the coast by a rather narrow sandy isthmus. This island is called ΝΗΣΙ (read as "nisi") and is translated from Greek as "island". During high tides, it can completely go under water.

After sunset, the sandy beach turns into outdoor dance floor... Foam parties are held here.

The best beaches in Cyprus are sandy strips at resorts, natural and with imported sand; landscaped areas near hotels - where there is all the infrastructure for families with children; stony - in small bays framed by weathered white rocks; wild - at national parks, which have preserved their original appearance.

Sandy beaches of Cyprus

The spacious sandy shores of the resorts of Cyprus remain the center of attraction for tourists who come to the island during the high season - from May to September.

The sand on the Cypriot Mediterranean coast differs not only in different regions, but also within individual resorts. Comfortable natural beaches with grayish and dense volcanic sand (for example, in Limassol and Larnaca) and mixed sand and pebble areas (including in Paphos) are widespread. Less often you can find municipal beaches with fine white or golden sand (in Ayia Napa, some in Protaras, Paphos, other resorts), wild beach strips with golden gray sand (Northern Cyprus and the coast a few kilometers from tourist cities).

Traditionally, the beaches with fine sand equipped with sun loungers and umbrellas are considered the most comfortable for relaxation. Basically, these beaches are loose, located within walking distance from the centers of large resorts.

Most of the sandy and some sandy-pebble beaches of Cyprus have been awarded the prestigious international Blue Flag award, which confirms the purity of the water and the safety of the coast for vacationers.

The best beaches in Cyprus

Cyprus white sand beaches

The bulk of Cypriot white sand beaches are concentrated on the Ayia Napa and Protaras coastlines. Such sites have a resort infrastructure and a smooth entrance into the water, therefore, they are especially attractive for tourists with children.

The famous white sandy beach of Cyprus - Nissi Beach in Ayia Napa, is located in a bay overlooking the islet. The coast is covered with light, fine imported sand, which is pleasant to walk on, the sea water is clear with an azure tint. The place is one of the most popular on the island, and there are consistently many vacationers on this coast, as well as on the second top beach of the resort - Makronisos.

The west coast near Nissy Ave and the water park is equally comfortable in terms of service and is often just as popular with tourists.

For a more relaxed holiday, you can choose the eastern city beach of Kermiya or go to the suburban coast of Ayia Thekla, near which there is a market on Wednesdays.

Paphos beaches

The resort coast of Paphos attracts tourists with a variety: along with the classic equipped strips with gray sand and pebbles, in the vicinity of the resort you can find municipal beaches with imported white or golden-gray sand, awarded the Blue Flag.

While vacationing in Paphos, it is worth visiting several iconic places, because not only the most famous and completely sandy Coral Bay beach and the mythical beach of Aphrodite (Petra tou Romiou) deserve attention. Thus, the reserved beach of Lara, where green turtles lay their eggs, is considered non-standard. And one of the best places to watch the sunset is the Lighthouse Beach (aka Faros Beach) overlooking the lighthouse. Close to the hotels in the Kato Paphos area is the cozy Alykes beach.

Beaches of Protaras and surroundings
