Fauna

The biological productivity of the lake is quite high. The average annual benthos biomass is 209 kg/ha. The average annual biomass of zooplankton is 2.25 mg/l.

The fish fauna is represented by 16 species, of which the most commercially valuable are: silver bream, bream, burbot, perch, roach, vendace, bleak, and pike. There are also other fish: loach, ruff, crucian carp, tench, gudgeon, spined loach.

Story

The age of Lake Pleshcheevo is about 30 thousand years. It was formed after the retreat of continental glaciers. This is confirmed by the very position of the lake on the border of a glacial moraine and ancient alluvial sediments. The ancient reservoir was much larger than the current one. Its former boundaries are visible as a raised border on the eastern and southern sides of the lake. The villages of Gorodishche, Bolshaya Brembola, Krasnoye, Veskovo and Solomidino are located here.

The name was always indicated on the maps Lake Pleshcheyevo. Name "Pereslavl Lake" and others were never indicated on maps. Pereslavl historian Alexander Svirelin argued that the correct name for the lake Pleshchino or Pleshchee, and everyone else is distorted or illiterate. According to one version, the name of the lake is associated with the ancient city of Kleshchin, the predecessor of Pereyaslavl-Zalessky. The modern name is a modification of an older name derived from Kleschin.

According to popular legend, “Pleshcheyevo” got its name from its ability to splash out, throw away all things thrown at it.

Economic and recreational use

Fishing is developed on Lake Pleshcheyevo; commercial fish such as perch, ruff and others are caught. Pereslavl vendace, previously mined, is now listed in the Red Book.

Lake Pleshcheyevo is a popular place for kitesurfing and windsurfing (in summer) and snowkiting (in winter).

On the shore of the lake there are a number of monuments and attractions, including the archaeological site “Kleshchinsky complex”, the 12-ton Blue Stone (on the north-eastern shore), the boat of Peter the Great. Nikitsky Monastery, Pereslavl Rybnaya Sloboda (Pereslavl-Zalessky itself also lies on the shore of the lake). The Pereslavl Railway, dismantled in 2005, ran along the southern shore of the lake. On the shore of the lake there is a pumping station that supplies water to Pereslavl-Zalessky.

An excerpt characterizing Lake Pleshcheyevo

- No, I’ve been looking at you for a long time; I felt it when you came in. No one like you, but gives me that soft silence... that light. I just want to cry with joy.
Natasha moved closer to him. Her face shone with rapturous joy.
- Natasha, I love you too much. More than anything else.
- And I? “She turned away for a moment. - Why too much? - she said.
- Why too much?.. Well, what do you think, how do you feel in your soul, in your whole soul, will I be alive? What do you think?
- I'm sure, I'm sure! – Natasha almost screamed, taking both his hands with a passionate movement.
He paused.
- How good it would be! - And, taking her hand, he kissed it.
Natasha was happy and excited; and immediately she remembered that this was impossible, that he needed calm.
“But you didn’t sleep,” she said, suppressing her joy. – Try to sleep... please.
He released her hand, shaking it; she moved to the candle and sat down again in her previous position. She looked back at him twice, his eyes shining towards her. She gave herself a lesson on the stocking and told herself that she wouldn't look back until she finished it.
Indeed, soon after that he closed his eyes and fell asleep. He did not sleep for long and suddenly woke up in a cold sweat.
As he fell asleep, he kept thinking about the same thing he had been thinking about all the time - about life and death. And more about death. He felt closer to her.
"Love? What is love? - he thought. – Love interferes with death. Love is life. Everything, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love. Everything is, everything exists only because I love. Everything is connected by one thing. Love is God, and to die means for me, a particle of love, to return to the common and eternal source.” These thoughts seemed comforting to him. But these were just thoughts. Something was missing in them, something was one-sided, personal, mental - it was not obvious. And there was the same anxiety and uncertainty. He fell asleep.
He saw in a dream that he was lying in the same room in which he was actually lying, but that he was not wounded, but healthy. Many different faces, insignificant, indifferent, appear before Prince Andrei. He talks to them, argues about something unnecessary. They are getting ready to go somewhere. Prince Andrey vaguely remembers that all this is insignificant and that he has other, more important concerns, but continues to speak, surprising them, some empty, witty words. Little by little, imperceptibly, all these faces begin to disappear, and everything is replaced by one question about the closed door. He gets up and goes to the door to slide the bolt and lock it. Everything depends on whether he has time or not time to lock her. He walks, he hurries, his legs don’t move, and he knows that he won’t have time to lock the door, but still he painfully strains all his strength. And a painful fear seizes him. And this fear is the fear of death: it stands behind the door. But at the same time, as he powerlessly and awkwardly crawls towards the door, something terrible, on the other hand, is already, pressing, breaking into it. Something inhuman - death - is breaking at the door, and we must hold it back. He grabs the door, strains his last efforts - it is no longer possible to lock it - at least to hold it; but his strength is weak, clumsy, and, pressed by the terrible, the door opens and closes again.
Once again it pressed from there. The last, supernatural efforts were in vain, and both halves opened silently. It has entered, and it is death. And Prince Andrei died.
But at the same moment as he died, Prince Andrei remembered that he was sleeping, and at the same moment as he died, he, making an effort on himself, woke up.
“Yes, it was death. I died - I woke up. Yes, death is awakening! - his soul suddenly brightened, and the veil that had hitherto hidden the unknown was lifted before his spiritual gaze. He felt a kind of liberation of the strength previously bound in him and that strange lightness that has not left him since then.
When he woke up in a cold sweat and stirred on the sofa, Natasha came up to him and asked what was wrong with him. He did not answer her and, not understanding her, looked at her with a strange look.
This was what happened to him two days before the arrival of Princess Marya. From that very day, as the doctor said, the debilitating fever took on a bad character, but Natasha was not interested in what the doctor said: she saw these terrible, more undoubted moral signs for her.
From this day on, for Prince Andrei, along with awakening from sleep, awakening from life began. And in relation to the duration of life, it did not seem to him slower than awakening from sleep in relation to the duration of the dream.

There was nothing scary or abrupt in this relatively slow awakening.
His last days and hours passed as usual and simply. And Princess Marya and Natasha, who did not leave his side, felt it. They did not cry, did not shudder, and lately, feeling this themselves, they no longer walked after him (he was no longer there, he left them), but after the closest memory of him - his body. The feelings of both were so strong that the external, terrible side of death did not affect them, and they did not find it necessary to indulge their grief. They did not cry either in front of him or without him, but they never talked about him among themselves. They felt that they could not put into words what they understood.
They both saw him sink deeper and deeper, slowly and calmly, away from them somewhere, and they both knew that this was how it should be and that it was good.
He was confessed and given communion; everyone came to say goodbye to him. When their son was brought to him, he put his lips to him and turned away, not because he felt hard or sorry (Princess Marya and Natasha understood this), but only because he believed that this was all that was required of him; but when they told him to bless him, he did what was required and looked around, as if asking if anything else needed to be done.
When the last convulsions of the body, abandoned by the spirit, took place, Princess Marya and Natasha were here.
– Is it over?! - said Princess Marya, after his body had been lying motionless and cold in front of them for several minutes. Natasha came up, looked into the dead eyes and hurried to close them. She closed them and did not kiss them, but kissed what was her closest memory of him.
“Where did he go? Where is he now?..”

When the dressed, washed body lay in a coffin on the table, everyone came up to him to say goodbye, and everyone cried.
Nikolushka cried from the painful bewilderment that tore his heart. The Countess and Sonya cried out of pity for Natasha and that he was no more. The old count cried that soon, he felt, he would have to take the same terrible step.
Natasha and Princess Marya were also crying now, but they were not crying from their personal grief; they wept from the reverent emotion that gripped their souls before the consciousness of the simple and solemn mystery of death that had taken place before them.

The totality of causes of phenomena is inaccessible to the human mind. But the need to find reasons is embedded in the human soul. And the human mind, without delving into the innumerability and complexity of the conditions of phenomena, each of which separately can be represented as a cause, grabs the first, most understandable convergence and says: this is the cause. In historical events (where the object of observation is the actions of people), the most primitive convergence seems to be the will of the gods, then the will of those people who stand in the most prominent historical place - historical heroes. But one has only to delve into the essence of each historical event, that is, into the activities of the entire mass of people who participated in the event, to be convinced that the will of the historical hero not only does not guide the actions of the masses, but is itself constantly guided. It would seem that it is all the same to understand the significance of the historical event one way or another. But between the man who says that the peoples of the West went to the East because Napoleon wanted it, and the man who says that it happened because it had to happen, there is the same difference that existed between the people who argued that the earth stands firmly and the planets move around it, and those who said that they do not know what the earth rests on, but they know that there are laws governing the movement of it and other planets. There are no and cannot be reasons for a historical event, except for the only cause of all reasons. But there are laws that govern events, partly unknown, partly groped by us. The discovery of these laws is possible only when we completely renounce the search for causes in the will of one person, just as the discovery of the laws of planetary motion became possible only when people renounced the idea of \u200b\u200bthe affirmation of the earth.

Pereslavl-Zalessky is famous not only for its rich history and ancient temples and monasteries, but also for its amazing natural attraction - Lake Pleshcheyevo. At first sight it amazes the imagination and fascinates with its beauty.

How to get to Lake Pleshcheeva?

You can get to Pereslavl-Zalessky by bus (there is a bus station in the city). Enter your departure city and find out the schedule and prices.

The Pleshcheyevo Lake national park, formed in 1988, is located 130 km from Moscow, in the Yaroslavl region. It includes: Lake Pleshcheyevo with its surroundings, including a city with a long history and. The creation of the park ensures the preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of our country, as well as the unique natural landscape around the lake.

Lake Pleshcheyevo on the map

The unique Lake Pleshcheyevo has an almost regular oval shape. Its age is about 30 thousand years.

It is of glacial origin. The depth of the lake in some places reaches 25 meters.

The historical birth of the Russian fleet took place on the shores of this lake. Young Peter I built his amusing flotilla here, and the boat “Fortune” that he built with his own hands (the only one that survived) is still in the Boat House of the Peter’s Boat museum-estate.

The lake is a favorite pastime place for Pereslavl residents. How can you not love such beauty!

In summer people swim here; the shores are quite shallow.

The lake is home to 16 species of fish, including vendace, also called the “royal herring”, as it was supplied to the royal court. This fish can be seen on the city's coat of arms.

Smoked vendace is sold in stores; in restaurants you can taste vendace prepared in different ways, depending on the cook’s imagination.

But no matter what they tell you, local, freshly caught vendace cannot be found in Pereslavl. Almost all of it is imported.

This fish is listed in the Red Book and catching it is prohibited even with a fishing rod.

We bought smoked vendace several times from the hotel store. It was an excellent fish, although not from Lake Pleshcheevo.

In addition to vendace, about ten species of plants listed in the Red Book grow in the protected area around the lake, as well as rare species of animals and birds.

The surrounding area of the lake has stunning picturesque nature. Several rivers flow into the lake. At the place where the Trubezh River flows into Lake Pleshcheyevo there is the Church of the Forty Martyrs.

In ancient times, in the vicinity of this lake there was a settlement of Meryans and Slavs. The center of this settlement was the predecessor of Pereslavl - the city of Kleshchin. The earthen ramparts from the 12th century are still preserved from it.

At the foot of these ramparts on the shore of the lake lies the legendary Blue Stone - a boulder of cult worship. To this day, people reach out to him with their deepest desires and requests for healing.

Currently, kite schools operate on Lake Pleshcheyevo. They specialize in teaching kitesurfing and winter kiteing (snowkiting). Aeronautics festivals are also held here. Touching the surface of the lake is one of the conditions for aeronautics.

Address: Russia, Yaroslavl region, near Pereslavl Zalesky
Square: 51 km²
Greatest depth: 25 m
Coordinates: 56°46"10.5"N 38°46"44.1"E

It is not for nothing that a round freshwater lake in the Yaroslavl region is considered an adornment of the “Golden Ring” of Russia. It has attracted people for a long time. And in memory of the ancient Finno-Ugric tribes we have the names Vexa, Sluda and Kukhmar. The lake was formed 30 thousand years ago and retains traces of glaciation and deep karst geological processes. Many thousands of travelers come to its shores every year to admire the beauty of sunsets, go sailing or visit monasteries and holy springs.

Origin of Lake Pleshcheevo

The nearly oval-shaped reservoir measures 9.5 by 6.5 km. Its coastline stretches for 27 km, and it lies at an altitude of 170 m above sea level. 19 rivers and streams bring their waters to the lake, the largest of which is the Trubezh River. And only Vex flows from it.

According to scientists, the lake is of glacial-karst origin. It has a funnel-shaped bottom, with a maximum depth of 25m. Over many thousands of years, thanks to sediments carried by rivers and streams, it was covered with a large layer of silt. In the deepest places, the thick silt layer reaches 15-17 m.

Like all lakes of glacial origin, Pleshcheyevo is very transparent. In the spring, up to 1 m is visible through the water column, and at the end of summer, during the “blooming” period, up to 1 m. The lake thaws from the ice in May, and usually freezes in early December, becoming covered with 60-70 cm of ice.

Sights of Lake Pleshcheevo

It's easy to get around the lake. On its banks and in the surrounding villages you can see a lot of interesting things. The highest point from which the lake expanses, reed thickets along the banks, village roofs and temple domes open in all their glory is Alexander Mountain. Many pilgrims come to the famous Varvarina spring for healing water.

Lovers of history and archeology on the shores of Lake Pleshcheevo are attracted by the low earthen ramparts. These are traces of the ancient city of Kleshchino, founded in the 8th century. Archaeologists also found here more than two thousand mounds of Meryans and sites of primitive man. This means that the lake has attracted people since ancient times as a convenient place for settlement, fishing and hunting.

On Lake Pleshcheyevo, Peter I built the famous Amusing Flotilla. In memory of this, a whole complex called “Peter's Boat” was opened. It includes a museum where the wooden boat on which the king sailed is kept, a gatehouse, a rotunda, a triumphal gate and a palace.

In the villages located near Lake Pleshcheevo, there are several interesting and unusual museums dedicated to teapots, gramophone records, old steam locomotives and the history of money. The house in which Mikhail Mikhailovich Prishvin lived and wrote his famous “Pantry of the Sun” has also been preserved here.

On the northeastern shore is located one of the most visited local attractions - Blue Stone. It attracts many people to Lake Pleshcheyevo - those who believe in its miraculous properties, geologists who want to know its composition, as well as local historians who try to find and describe everything interesting on the Pereslavl land.

Pleshcheyka: kiting and windsurfing

It so happened that Lake Pleshcheyevo or Pleshcheyka (Pleshka) has become a popular riding destination for kitesurfing and windsurfing enthusiasts. This happened primarily because it is convenient to get to from Moscow and Yaroslavl. There is also almost always a steady south, west and south-west wind. And finally, most of the coastal places of this lake, a few hundred meters from the shore, do not have much depth. And the bottom is almost everywhere flat and muddy. So it’s safe to fight the wind on a board here - 300 m from the shore the depth will be chest-deep.

On weekends and holidays, you can see up to 100 bright domes in a row on the lake. And no one complains about cramped spaces. The most popular places for skiing are “Polyana” (or “Kiteri Place”), “Petra Boat”, “Polyana at Botik”, as well as places near the Urev recreation center and the city beach of Pereslavl.

Fishing on Lake Pleshcheyevo

The lake is considered by experts to be an excellent place for fishing. Its fresh waters are home to 16 species of fish. Most of all you can catch roach, ruffe and silver bream, which locals call “korzoha”. The pike in the lake are not very large. And anyone who manages to catch ide, bream or large perch in this reservoir will be very lucky. The valuable commercial fish vendace, for which Lake Pleshcheyevo is famous, is not caught here with hook and line gear.

The main fishing spots are located along the western shore. You can approach them from the Yaroslavskoye Highway along the Kalyazinsky Highway.

Recently, winter ice fishing has become increasingly popular, especially among Muscovites. The catch increases in the spring, when meltwater from the rivers rushes into the lake. Then fishermen try to fish closer to the mouth of the rivers flowing into Lake Pleshcheyevo. However, near Vexa, during spawning, roach fishing on the lake is not allowed. The worst time to fish in these areas is in the fall, during storms. Because on inclement, windy days, fish from shallow waters escape from large waves in the depths.

Lake Pleshcheyevo National Park

The protected zone of the park, created in 1988, includes the entire catchment area of Lake Pleshcheevo and the city of Pereslavl-Zalessky. The lake is, of course, the key ecological core of the national park, because in many of its indicators, this body of water has no analogues in the European part of Russia. In addition to the endemic species Pereslavl vendace, it is home to 2 species of fish, and along its banks live 14 species of birds and 3 species of mammals, listed as endangered in the Red Book of Russia.

A special place in the activities of the park is occupied by the dendrological garden named after S.F. Kharitonov is one of the brightest attractions of the Yaroslavl region. It is a unique man-made corner of nature, where more than 600 species of shrubs and trees grow, collected from different parts of the planet. The territory of the dendrological garden stretches over 58 hectares and is arranged in a landscape style. You can visit this beautiful garden on your own or as part of an organized excursion. It is located southwest of Pereslavl-Zalessky, on a beautiful hill, from where a picturesque panorama of both the ancient city and Lake Pleshcheyevo opens up.

Where to stay

There are several options for overnight stays on the coast of Lake Pleshcheevo. Several quite comfortable recreation centers have been built here - “Sin Kamen”, “Pleshcheyevo”, “Ohana” and “Urev”. In addition, hotels and guest houses are always happy to welcome guests.

Many places also offer free camping. Money for a tent space is taken only at the equipped parking lot near the Blue Stone and at paid tourist parking lots. The Pleshcheyevo Lake National Park has two such equipped sites for tent camps - “Botik” and “Kukhmar”. A tent camp can also be set up at paid parking lots in the Dubki recreation area, the kite zone on the north-eastern shore of the lake and in the Veslevo recreation park.

While Lena was busy with photography at the Fotovyezd festival, little Masha and I took a vacation on Lake Pleshcheevo, located on the territory of the National Park of the same name near Pereslavl-Zalessky. Masha swam with pleasure for the first time in open water, and together we explored the surroundings, springs, places to relax, sights and beauty...

The city of Pereslavl-Zalessky is located on the shore of Lake Pleshcheevo.

Getting up in the morning and having breakfast at our Pereslavl hotel, Masha and I took Lena to the Photo Departure festival , while they themselves drove around Lake Pleshcheevo by car or went to swim and relax on the shore. During our trips we also visited the Nikitsky Monastery , and the holy spring Varvarin Klyuch (repeatedly), and Blue Stone , but more on that in the next articles...

In the meantime, let's talk about Pleshcheyevo Lake National Park...

Read in the article

Pleshcheyevo Lake National Park

I’ll admit right away that we are not very ardent fans of traveling around Russia... But Pleshcheyevo Lake impressed us as soon as we saw it!

Map of Pereslavl and Pleshcheyevo Lake National Park

Having left Pereslavl-Zalessky, we turned left to Nikitskaya Sloboda, passed the Nikitsky Monastery (noting to ourselves that we must definitely go into it) and immediately saw the huge Pleshcheyevo Lake stretching out in front of us. And from Alexandrova Mountain, which is located near the lake, the view is absolutely stunning...

You can climb the path in a few minutes. An Orthodox cross is installed on the top of Alexander Mountain.

And from the cross there is a beautiful panoramic view of everything around...

The dimensions of the lake are approximately 6.5 by 9.5 kilometers. The lake has a regular oval shape and covers an area of more than 50 square meters. kilometers.

The area of the entire National Park is about 25,000 hectares! In addition to the lake, the National Park includes green forests, rich flora and fauna, many churches and attractions, key springs and springs with holy water... There are many animals and birds on the territory and insects, and the lake is home to about 20 species of fish.

Rest on Lake Pleshcheyevo

The city of Pereslavl-Zalessky and Pleshcheyevo Lake National Park are, respectively, included in the Golden Ring of Russia. This ensures an influx of tourists, travelers and vacationers not only from the Yaroslavl region, but also from all over Russia and from abroad too.

And the proximity to Moscow (only 135 kilometers) attracts Muscovites here too.

There are a lot of cars, especially on weekends, along the road along the lake! Parking in the most popular vacation spots can be challenging. Fortunately, the coastal strip of a large lake still allows you to find a free place for parking and rest.

We were pleasantly surprised by the well-groomed and cleanliness of the recreation areas on the shore of Lake Pleshcheevo. There are trash cans everywhere, there are bio-toilets, there are signs with rules of behavior, prohibitions and prices for services, wooden boardwalks lead to the shore from the highway, there is no garbage on the shore - everything is orderly and decent.

Prices for paid services on Lake Pleshcheyevo are quite acceptable for just vacationers, for companies, and for those who want to relax with a tent...

Prices for paid services:

  • Accommodation in specially equipped places for recreation and in tent sites - 300 rubles per day
  • Renting a 4-person tent - 500 rubles per day
  • Large festive gazebo - 500-1,000 rubles per hour
  • Large tent-tent for up to 50 people or more - 5,500-11,000 rubles per day
  • Pleasure boat rental - 150-300 rubles per hour
  • Barbecue rental - 150 rubles per day

Payment must be made in Pereslavl-Zalessky, on Sovetskaya St., 41 or Zhuravleva St., 1B, as well as to inspectors on the shore. We did not meet a single inspector)

Apparently, paragliding is a very popular form of entertainment - we didn’t find out the cost...

You won’t find sand here like on a sea beach, but despite the grass-covered shores, relaxation is quite comfortable, including with small children. The entrance to the lake is gentle, the bottom is sandy, we did not find any silt.

The water in Lake Pleshcheyevo is clean and transparent, ducks are swimming...

Little one-year-old Masha, despite the fact that she was born in Bulgaria, had never bathed anywhere besides a bath, and was simply delighted with absolutely everything - ducks, fish swimming in the water,

from a floundering dog,

and of course from swimming in the lake!

The diaper was taken off instantly, but it was almost impossible to pull the trembling, guzzling and laughing little booger out of the water and put it on, even after a couple of hours!

Still, you will never see such happiness in the eyes of a child as from swimming in the sea and other bodies of water!

Lena, who did not expect such courage from us, was simply confronted with a fact when taking us away from the Photo Departure: “we swam, were cold, and all our clothes were wet because we dried ourselves with her instead of a towel!..” Happy Masha fell asleep in the car before reaching the hotel.

Our review of the Pereslavl Hotel We already wrote, what are the general accommodation options for a holiday on Lake Pleshcheyevo?..

Campings

You can come and relax with your own tent, or rent it on Lake Pleshcheyevo... Prices for accommodation at the campsite and rental of a tent are indicated above. There are a lot of camping sites on the shore of Lake Pleshcheevo.

Recreation centers and guest houses

On the shore of Lake Pleshcheevo there is a fairly large selection of guest houses and recreation centers, for example:

Hotels

If on the shores of Lake Pleshcheevo there are mainly campsites and recreation centers, then in Pereslavl-Zalessky itself there is a very large selection of hotels for every taste and budget:

Fishing on Lake Pleshcheyevo

We are not fishermen, but knowledgeable people praise fishing on Lake Pleshcheyevo.

Lake Pleshcheyevo is famous for fishing all year round! The average depth of the lake is 11 meters with a maximum depth of 25 meters. The length of the coast is about 30 kilometers. The bottom is flat - you can often walk several hundred meters from the shore up to your waist! For a fishing permit you need to pay 100-200 rubles. As I already said, there are about 20 species of fish in Pleshcheevo Lake: pike, perch, roach, ruffe, bream, etc. The Pereslavl “royal” herring (cissor vendace), listed in the Red Book, will require a separate permit. Nets and fishing are prohibited from the end of November to the end of December, from the end of April to the beginning of May, from the end of May to mid-June...

Fishing in summer
