Karlovy Vary Airport - review and photos from personal experience, how to get there, schedule. How to get from Karlovy Vary Airport to Karlovy Vary? Karlovy Vary from the airport to the center

  • 27.01.2024

Karlovy Vary Airport is popular primarily among tourists who come for recreation and treatment at the famous Czech resort. Built in 1921, it became one of the first airports to appear in the Czech Republic.

It should be noted that the airport, despite its small size, has an extraordinary high-tech design, which puts it on the list of the most beautiful airports in Europe.

Airport map

The airport has only one terminal from which domestic and international flights are carried out. By the way, the small airport building offers everything passengers need, making their stay comfortable and carefree.

On the ground floor of the two-level airport building there is an information board that “greets” passengers immediately upon entering. The board displays up-to-date information and flight schedules and allows you to obtain information about your flight.

To the left of the entrance there are check-in counters for the flight, and opposite is the baggage packing service. There is also a cafe and a restaurant here, which offers not only fast food, but also various dishes. Therefore, there will be no problem with having a snack or a good meal while waiting for the flight.

Next to the check-in counters is the Czech Airlines office, where you can exchange, return or buy tickets, as well as resolve any problems or questions regarding the transportation of pets and luggage.

A branch of the First Czech Bank is available to passengers on the ground floor. Tourists who did not have time to change money can use the services of a currency exchange office, and those who need to withdraw or deposit money can use a Raiffeisen Bank ATM.

The center of the hall on the first floor is the place of the largest concentration of people who meet passengers leaving the arrivals area located here, and see off those who are going to fly, passing to the departure area.

If the first floor performs the functionality of sending and receiving passengers, then the second floor distributes passenger flow.

On the left side is the arrival area for passengers flying on both international and domestic flights. When leaving the corridor, arriving passengers go to the conveyor belt to claim their baggage. Unlike other international airports, where there are several baggage claim areas, it is impossible to get lost at Karlovy Vary Airport - there is only one baggage carousel.

Those departing on flights within the country, as well as to the European Union, are concentrated in the center of the second floor - this is where the departure area is located. For example, if a passenger flies to Denmark, he is localized here. Those who fly to non-Schengen countries head to the right, in particular, Russian tourists flying to their homeland.

In this departure area there is perhaps one of the most favorite places for passengers at any airport - the duty-free area. The assortment in the Karlovy Vary duty-free store is the same as in other duty-free stores, although the selection of goods offered is inferior to larger airports.

On the second floor, as well as on the first, there are 2 places where you can eat - a cafe and a snack bar. Families traveling with children are also invited to use the mother and baby room.

For tourists who made purchases while on vacation at the resort, there is a point for processing and refunding tax on tax-free checks, which in the Czech Republic is 19%, and therefore, when contacting this service, the tourist will receive 19% of the cost of purchases back.

Passengers who are used to staying connected and up to date may not think about the lack of Internet access. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the airport.

Those who have time left before departure and have done all their business - checked in for the flight, bought perfume in duty-free and drank Czech coffee - can visit a special observation deck located on the second floor in the departure area. It offers panoramic views of the surrounding area, as well as aircraft arriving and departing.

Airport board

Apart from the information board located on the ground floor, the airport does not provide an online board. All information about flights can be found on the official website of the airport airport-k-vary.cz. In addition to arriving and departing aircraft, the website provides other useful information for passengers.

Airlines and flights

Most of all, the airport is in demand by tourists coming to the resort, and therefore the geography of flights is somewhat compressed and is represented by those cities from which guests fly. Among the Russian cities from which flights to Karlovy Vary operate are: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara and Tyumen. Passengers are transported by airlines - Czech Airlines, State Transport Company Rossiya, Ural Airlines and Aeroflot. At the height of the tourist flow, flights from Moscow fly 4 times a week, from other cities - 1-2 times.

Flights to Karlovy Vary

Remember that by changing the date and time, you can find inexpensive tickets. Don’t delay your purchase, as even after an hour the price may be completely different.

How to get from the airport to Karlovy Vary

It is noteworthy that the airport is located just 5 km from the city, which makes transferring tourists convenient and tireless. The main ways to get to the resort are taxi, public transport, group or individual transfer.

Taxi

You can order a car either from the airport building or in advance. The taxi service at the airport operates 24 hours a day. You can get to the city center by taxi in 15 minutes, paying about 20 euros for the journey.

Individual and group transfer

Individual and group transfers can be ordered in advance. As a rule, the group transfer service is included in the tour price and involves transporting tourists to hotels and sanatoriums of the resort. An individual transfer is issued in addition to the main tourist package and is a transfer not by bus, but by car. The main difference between an individual transfer and a taxi is that the driver can speak Russian, help with luggage and deliver the passenger directly to the hotel reception. The minimum cost of an individual transfer is 20 euros.

Public transport

Significant savings can be achieved by transporting to the hotel by bus No. 8, which runs from the airport terminal to the city center several times a day. The fare for this public transport is 25 CZK. The stop where you need to get off is also the final stop and is located near the center of the resort - called Tržnice. Information about bus departure and arrival times can be viewed (Jan. 2014).

How to get from the airport to Prague

There are also cases when tourists need to go not to the resort, but to Prague. This may be due to the fact that there were no seats on flights arriving at Prague airport.

In this case, there are several ways to get to Prague.

Airplane

Firstly, without leaving the airport building you can fly by plane to Prague Airport. This option is suitable for tourists who need to quickly get to the capital of the Czech Republic. True, such a “quick” pleasure will cost about 500 euros between points. Travel time is less than 40 minutes.

Train

Perhaps the only plus of this way to get to the Czech capital is the beautiful views from the train window. The rest is something that can cause inconvenience to the passenger. So, for example, travel time by train is much longer than by car, because the railway is built in such a way that it is 200 km longer than the road. Travel time is 3 hours 30 minutes. The fare is 10 euros. The train runs 2 times a day (in the morning and in the late afternoon).

Bus

The bus is perhaps the most optimal transport both in price and time to get to Prague. Firstly, it goes faster than a train, the cost is cheaper - 140 CZK, and the travel time is 2 hours 15 minutes. By the way, the ticket price already includes newspapers and coffee. A bus runs every hour from the resort center.

Taxi

You can also get to Prague by private transfer, using a taxi service right at Karlovy Vary Airport. This is the fastest mode of land transport, the approximate travel time is 1.5 hours. The fare starts from 70 euros.

Karlovy Vary has always been my mother's dream. And then one day, having saved up some money, she and I finally decided to go to this fabulous city. We don’t like package tours, so we decided to fly on our own. There are several ways to get to the city. We decided not to waste time and take a direct flight to the resort. I don’t like to feel insecure, and therefore, when the tickets were purchased, I immediately started looking for information on how to get to the center of Karlovy Vary. I have read many sites and guidebooks, and now I am happy to share my knowledge.

What you should know about Karlovy Vary Airport

Flying directly to Karlovy Vary is the easiest, but most expensive way to get to the resort. The town has a small airport located 5 kilometers from the city, so getting to the center will not be difficult.

Karlovy Vary Airport is constantly developing and improving. Currently it consists of one terminal serving both domestic and international flights. The exterior of the airport is stylized to resemble an airplane turbine. Inside, on two floors, there is everything a traveler needs: waiting rooms, restaurants, shops, a medical center, a mother and child room, storage rooms, banks and exchange offices. Tickets can be purchased both online and at the airport ticket offices located on the ground floor. There are also reception desks on the ground floor. The second floor is divided into several zones: on the left is the arrival point and baggage claim area, in the center is the exit for departures on domestic flights and to Schengen countries, on the right is the area of international departures to countries that are not parties to the Schengen agreement. An interesting feature of the airport is the observation deck, which offers a beautiful view of planes taking off and landing. You stand there in the morning with a glass of coffee and admire...Blooper! :) The exit to the site is located on the second floor.

Currently, direct flights from Russia to Russia are operated from only two cities: Moscow and St. Petersburg. Perhaps that is why ticket prices are amazing in their scope.

You can view the online scoreboard, as well as find useful information about the airport on the official website.

How to get to the city center from Karlovy Vary Airport

Traveling to the center by public transport

The easiest and most economical way to get there is, of course, by bus. You can go to the resort directly from the airport. Bus No. 8 from the airport terminal departs from 5:30 to 22:20 on weekdays and from 7:10 to 22:20 on weekends and holidays every 40-60 minutes. You can view the bus schedule. To get to the city center, you need to go to the Tržnice stop - it is the last one. The trip to Karlovy Vary from the airport will take no more than 30 minutes.

Where to buy tickets

Bus tickets can be purchased directly from the driver. The driver may also ask you to pay for large luggage.

Ticket price

The ticket costs only 25 CZK (about 1 euro).

Taxi

A taxi can be ordered directly upon arrival at the airport building. The advantage of a taxi is that it operates around the clock. The taxi rank is located on the station square, opposite the exit from the terminal. The driver will take you to the city in 15 minutes. But the cost of the trip will be about 20 euros. Since travel time is not much different from a bus, a taxi should be ordered by those who want to get there with maximum comfort.

There are a huge number of carriers operating in the city, but only three companies enjoy the trust of local residents:

  • Georgia Taxi Karlovy Vary.
  • Karlsbad Travel.
  • A Centrum Taxi.

The vehicle fleets of these companies include not only passenger cars of various classes, but also minivans, limousines and trucks. The big advantage of these companies is their highly qualified staff who speak several languages.

Transfer from Prague Airport to Karlovy Vary

The advantage of the transfer is that it can be ordered directly from home before departure. Therefore, upon arrival you will not worry about how to get to the resort. A company representative will definitely meet you in the arrivals area and whisk you away to your chosen hotel. The transfer price varies depending on the class and capacity of the vehicle.

Trip to Karlovy Vary by car

Today, many tourists like to get to their destination on their own using rented cars. This method of transportation is especially convenient for families with children. You can rent a car right at the airport. The terminal houses rental offices of several popular companies in the country. It is better to book a car in advance via the Internet. The minimum rental period is one day, but it is cheaper to rent a car for several days at once. To make a reservation, you must provide a passport, international driver's license and credit card. It’s best to drive using a navigator, although you can figure it out without one: there are information signs on the roads.

There are both local and world famous car rental agencies in the city. The following companies are most popular in Karlovy Vary:

  • Alamo.
  • Europcar.
  • Hertz.
  • National.
  • Sixt.

What to do if your flight is canceled

If a flight is canceled more than 24 hours before departure, passengers will be transferred to similar airline flights. The carrier bears the costs; the service is free for the passenger. If you are not satisfied with any of the options offered by the airline, most airlines can issue an “involuntary return.” Once confirmed by the airline, the money will be returned to your account. Sometimes this can take several weeks.

How to check in at the airport

Online check-in is available on most airline websites. Most often it opens 23 hours before the start of the flight. You can go through it no later than 1 hour before the plane departs.

To check in at the airport you will need:

    • identification document specified in the order,
    • birth certificate when flying with children,
    • printed itinerary receipt (optional).
  • What can you take on a plane?

Carry-on luggage is the items you will take with you into the cabin. The weight limit for hand luggage can vary from 5 to 10 kg, and its size most often should not exceed the sum of three dimensions (length, width and height) from 115 to 203 cm (depending on the airline). A handbag is not considered hand luggage and is carried freely.

The bag you take with you on the plane should not contain knives, scissors, medicines, aerosols, or cosmetics. Alcohol from duty free stores can only be transported in sealed bags.

How to pay for luggage at the airport

If the weight of luggage exceeds the standards established by the airline (most often 20-23 kg), you need to pay for each kilogram of excess. In addition, many Russian and foreign airlines, as well as low-cost airlines, have tariffs that do not include free baggage allowance and must be paid separately as an additional service.

In this case, luggage must be checked in at the airport at a separate Drop-off check-in counter. If you are unable to print your boarding pass, you can obtain one at the airline's regular check-in counter, and check-in and check-in your luggage there.

Where to find out the arrival time if you are a greeter

You can find out the plane's arrival time on the airport's online board. The Tutu.ru website has an online display of the main Russian and foreign airports.

You can find out the exit number (gate) on the arrivals board at the airport. This number is located next to the incoming flight information.
