Ring road of Iceland. Iceland yourself, travel planning

District road number 1 in Iceland (from Reykjavik to Akureyri).

The most important road in Iceland is the district road number 1 or our own "CAD". It goes around the entire island, entirely asphalted, mostly double-band and is a ring. There are almost no cars in May. Its length is 1339 km. Glump countries depart back tracks, which are already occasionally, there are asphalt, more often good primers, less frequent primer. Bad primers in the fall-winter-spring happens closed. The country road is passable and open all year round. Wherever you went to Iceland, part of the route still will pass on the road number 1 anyway.

For two days we drove from Reykjavik (under the number 1) to the egilestadyr (under the number 5) along the northern part of the island.

The road number 1 can be viewed as a separate landmark. Due to the fact that we were in such a tough temporary framework, we managed to see how much Iceland differs at different ends of the island. Literally, the ride and green grass turns into black spaces, the volcanic fields are replaced by the carved white mountains, the red earth becomes a poisonous yellow or neutrally brown, waterfalls appear on the snow, and the black sand turns into green grass and pastures.

On the first day around the District Road, we drove about 400 km from Reykjavik to Akureyri. It took about 6 hours with all stops (pokatushki on the Golden Ring, which were on the same day, are not included here).

The country road is painted, probably, at any point. But, in my opinion, one of its most beautiful sections in the north-west of the island. On the right picturesque huge mountain ridge. And on the left, very close to the waves of the Atlantic Ocean, loud bursts! They are heard even in the car, in full speed! The ocean sometimes turns out to be completely closely next to the road.

The road number 1 is free with the exception of one tunnel, in addition, he is the only one in Iceland.

He takes place under the hvalfjörður fjord. The length of the tunnel is 5 km 770 m. If you go along the fjord, the way to increase by about 50 km, there is a significant savings of time in the tunnel, but this pleasure is paid - 1000 Icelandic crowns (approximately 240 p). The depth of the tunnel is 165 meters below sea level. They write that the daily traffic is now exceeding the permissible, and the new tunnel is designed, which will be built in the coming years. What was very surprised - the lack of gas supply inside, the truth is very noisy because of the hum of fans.

And here is the fjord himself, which we just crossed under water.

Three kinds of animals graze in Iceland - cute northern horses, no less cute lambs, spring-standing under the skirt and ... geese. Eating also mostly them. Along almost the entire road, a wire is tensioned, which, besides that barbed, is also energized. This is done not to protect the earth from people, and to protect people from walking liveliness. Let's graze in Iceland all freely, without any look.

Cross another fjord, this time on top of the bridge.

If in Norway, I did not turn the language to call the city by villages, then in Iceland the situation is reverse. The city of Borgarnes is a village village. :)))

Someone said or wrote that there are few trees in Iceland. Nonsense. They are not cut down there, but they plant, so every year the forests grow and capture the island. :) Another thing is that the eruption of volcanoes very quickly reduces all efforts to no, turning green forests in black fields.

Very familiar to us, but very rare forest landscape in Iceland.

But just the consequences of the eruption of the volcano. And it happened sooo long ago.

Sometimes the road rises high, and then landscapes outside the window become significantly white and snowfast.

Village Blynduyus.

From now on, I surrendered at all, stupidly asked the camera to the glass of the car and removed, removed, removed ... Sometimes he rearranged the camera to the opposite glass. The result of photographs did not even even worry, I wanted at least something left for my memory and allowed even after a large period of time to remember that we saw there ... By the end of the day, the head from everything around was already literally exploded. :)

Several facts about Iceland.

The difference in time with Moscow is 4 hours.

The air temperature on the island of winter is rarely lowered below 0, and in summer the average temperature is only +10 degrees. During our stay in early May, it was about +7, which was very comfortable. Children truth walked in winter clothes, and we pushed a lot of sweaters.

The polar circle is not far therefore in spring and summer the days are very long.

The main monetary unit of Iceland is the Icelandic Crown. However, in all stores without problems, cash euros are accepted. Also, without any problems, you can pay everywhere with the help of a bank card, but a small amount of cash with it is still useful to have. Bank cards are taken even in a taxi.

The country is in a long crisis, but despite this, all possible conditions for comfortable travel are created for tourists. At the expense of tourists, many Icelanders live, but in addition, except for the words of gratitude for their such work, nothing breaks out. :)

In the north of the island, the road number 1 is completely removed from the ocean and loops in a wide valley surrounded by mountains. The closer to Akureyri, the mountains are becoming higher and higher.

In the background of a mountain with a characteristic silhouette - Hraundrangar.

Initially, we planned another evening walk to Akureyri on this day. Very cute city, but we arrived only in the area of \u200b\u200b8 pm, the forces were already on the outcome. I'll try it tomorrow, stopping today only to take a snack. Good small in sabvel on a cute vanino "Make a sandwich with a stuffing on your taste" put no less cute so much burning pepper and sharp onions that it was impossible. Poor temit ... As we scolded it and forced it to eat it, without trying themselves ... We still have it, you still have to believe the children first, then check, well, then on circumstances ... :)

TOTAL on the road with a small inspection of Reykjavik, a gold ring and other small stops for this day we spent 15 hours. Now it terrifies a little, but on the spot somehow I went and went. Something tells me that in our Russian uhabinam we would not have rolled so calmly. :) Good roads give excellent travel opportunities! Even Seva almost did not capricious, and this is despite the fact that he began with a runny nose and in the evening a small temperature rose. Fatigue felt only in the hotel. And our dad Vanya, of course, hero, yes ...! :))) But on the other Iceland, we did not work in any way, and the desire was huge! The next day promised to be calmer ...

This is not the end of my story about the circumferential road, because the next day we will continue our way on it.

To be continued...

Iceland seemed to be designed for autotourism, and on a jeep you can get to any point where the ground "trail" leads. The most interesting driving plan is the center of the island (Highland). And at the same time, for those who wanted to practice, there are no restrictions on visiting any parts of the island. Nowhere is there any paid zones, paid attractions, paid parking near attractions, etc.

National expensive

Roads belonging to the National Highway System in the conduct of Icelandic roads. They are categorized as follows: S - Main roads - Road # 1, which connects Reykjavik with Reykjavik T - Minor roads - Tengivegi Translated - Country roads (usually a two-digit number), usually long more than 10 kilometers n - local roads that provide access to private farms and do not correspond to the quality of Tengivegi (as a rule the three-digit number) l - the road that does not belong to any of the above categories in short, there's nothing interesting here (in terms of driving !! Do not understand me correctly), except for the contemplation of delicious Attractions after a comfortable trip to a good sedan.

Other expensive

F - Roads without coating, for which only 4x4 are allowed. Very many with elements of intersection of the rods

Roads F with double-digit numbers better - can be smooth gravel without extreme (Primary Highland Road); three-digit numbers are much more interesting; Dotted line without the "trail for jeep". Maybe not quite predictable.

Lovers of a more relaxing attract attractive attractions in a relatively comfortable area on Ring Road №1 (Primary Road). And for lovers of this jigtrip outside the main road, where the Icelandic Highland is, the Sahaamy is starting interesting. First, a short trip on a secondary road, and in the end, F-Road begins. But these roads can be covered for as much as interesting. So we will be more attentive

Safety

Some statistics: a total of 13 thousand kilometers in Iceland, only 2.5 of which F-Roads for traveling on F-roads, even three-digit, no special preparation is required, but it is necessary to own basic skills. A fairly good jeep, good rubber, an additional fuel canister and you can grab extra provisions .... If you still photographed for a long time, it was dark, and you are still in the mountains. The worst thing that can meet on these roads is: Brody (during the warm-time season, when the glaciers are melted, some rivers can be fully full), sharp stones, lack of refueling. The soil is stable enough, so the probability is low in the "zybuchy sand". Here are the most terrible brodes of all that we fell. But the summer was cold ...
There is a fairly simple rule crossing of brodes according to Alexander www.rusring.net

The rules of the safe crossing of the Ford (it is Forta - a specially designated place of intersection of the road with a water obstacle). 1. Wait another car and check out the depth and route of the movement. 2. If the depth is large or just scary - wait for a Ba-ah-a-a-and-smoking machine and ask to drag to the other side. 🙂

Approximate opening time of some of the most popular roads

Who is going to such a journey, you need to check whether the road is open on the resource www.vegagerdin.is or by phone 1777 Lakagígar (F206) - June 12 Fjallabsleið Nyrðri (Landmannalaugar, Eldgjá) (F208) - June 12 Landmannaið5, Landmannalaugar (F225) - 12 June Kjölur (Hveravellir) (F35) - June 11 SPRENGISANDUR (F26) - June 27 Askja (F88) - June 20 Kverkfjöll (F902) - June 19 Uxahryggir (F52) - June 5 Kaldidalur (F550) - June 13

At an increase, it can be seen how much today was "the discoverers", which can give as confidence, will make it think.

It would be nice to check the weather, so as not to ride the Weather Condition and Forecast not worth neglecting traffic signs! Because in Iceland, signs are set precedent, so if the sign stands ... it means in the case !! If there is a sign "Falling meteorites" in the middle of the Icelandic field, be sure that this happened at least 1 time and probability is high!

application for Smartphones 112 Iceland

Holders of smartphones can feel more protected, as Iceland's rescue service (ICE-SAR) announced the program startup 112 Iceland (SOS Iceland) for tourists. The program allows you to report that assistance is required and regularly informing about your location, which, if necessary, facilitates assistance. The program is steadily operating not only in networks with a rapid connection. Conventional GSM connections are quite enough to work. You can download the program on both Safetravel.is, and through the iPhone App Store and Google's Play Store for Android devices. In addition to the program, on the site of the rescue service, you can (and if you want to call in some hole and are not sure, but "I really want" you need !!) Leave the plan of your hike with the control time of the return. In case of no reflection, the rescuers will be checked, whether nothing happened. Also in the rescue service in just 25 euros per week, you can get McMurdo Fastfind - satellite rescue "lighthouse" Cospass-Sarsat system. Very useful and reliable thing, works everywhere.

District Road (Iceland)

District road in the vicinity of Borgarfjordore

District road (Isl. Þjóðzegur 1. or Hringvegur.) is the main transport artery of Iceland. The length of the road is 1339 km. Her construction was completed in 1974. The road is of great interest to tourists, as it connects almost all settlements of the country.

Almost all over its lengths this road is two-way. One strip in each direction. When it passes through large cities, the number of strips can increase. Most small bridges are single-band and made of wood and / or steel. Most of the road - asphalt, but gravel sections are found in the eastern road.

The flow density is very dependent on the location. Near Reykjavik on the way there are 5,000-10000 cars, but in some areas less than 100 cars per day passes.

The road was completed in 1974, in honor of the 1100-year-old anniversary of the country's settlement. In 1974, the bridge was finished the longest in Iceland across the Skadear River in South Iceland.

The road is popular with tourists, as it can be reached by almost anywhere in the country and with it often good views of nature around. The route was particularly popular among Icelandic families in the summer, but recently it attracts foreigners who rent cars or come on their own ferry in Seydisfjordore. The southern part of the road is sometimes collapsed due to sudden floods caused by geothermal sources or volcanic eruptions.

Riding around the District Road

Although most of the road asphalt, some sites have not changed since the 1940s and are dangerous with their blind turns and narrow bridges. In winter, ice and strong wind can make a trip particularly dangerous.

Permitted speed on the road - 90 km / h on asphalt plots and 80 km / h on gravel.

"In a good way to see all Iceland, you need 2-3 weeks. Then you will have enough time to go around the whole western part of the country, famous for its fjords, and take a walk through the central part, where the glaciers and national parks are located. But if you have only a standard holiday out of 7 days at your disposal, you definitely need to take the car and go around the district road of Iceland - this is the most common tourist route where you can see on a little bit from everything that this diverse country can offer. ", Especially for says Maria Kurganov.

1. We started in Reykjavik and went to the north. The plan was to go along the ring road, only sometimes going off her to watch the planned places in advance. We drove about 300-500 km per day. The length of the ring road is approximately 1,400 km, while its most of it is asphalted and very good quality. Only in the eastern part and under the congresses we had to go through gravel.

2. The West Peninsula, or Westfirdir, is very large, and it needs to be allocated for several days. We reached only to Stikchysholmür on the Sniphanes Peninsula - this is a small beautiful town where you can easily climb the fjords, look at the lighthouse and the Atlantic Ocean.

3. If you drive in Iceland and suddenly see some kind of alien structure, most likely you are looking at the local church. The situation inside at the same time, as in most Lutheran churches, it looks quite restrained and modest. We found this church in Blynduyous in the city.

4. In the Northern Capital of Iceland, the city of Akureyri, the main attraction is also the local church. It is possible to guess about its attitude to religion only on the cross toward the entrance.

5. Landscapes in the north of Iceland resemble the Roerich's canvas: the mountains and the sky of bright pastel colors look like drawn.

6. Godfoss - the first major waterfall we encountered on the route. "The Waterfall of God" looks not so terrible as the gods from local mythology, on the contrary, in it there is something a pacifying, giving the opportunity to feel all the surrounding beauty.

8. Not far from Myvatn are hot springs and sulfur deposits.

9. Sulfuric water has a terrible smell of rotten eggs, but it looks very beautiful thanks to its gentle blue color and a couple covering it.

10. Crater crafted: frozen lava covered with snow, hypnotizes with its shining turquoise color. However, the wind knocking off the legs will not let you admire this beauty for a long time.

12. The most impressive spectacle is a waterfall. The feeling that you are about to get into a completely different world, it arises on the way to it: you are going a few kilometers on the road, around which there is nothing but gravel, boulders and fog. From the parking lot you need to pass a kilometer on the marked track flags before you find yourself at the waterfall, the height of which is only 9 meters less than the height of Niagara.

13. Literally in a kilometer from Dettifoss, another famous waterfall, Selfoss is located.

14. Rainbow in Iceland is a completely ordinary phenomenon that we met a day several times in different places.

15. On the west of the country there is a small town of Seydisfjordur. It is located at the bay leaving the Atlantic Ocean, and is surrounded by mountains. It is difficult to imagine what the locals are engaged in the city with 2-3 streets and 1 bar, but for divers there is a real paradise. In 1944, the English tanker sank here, which now lies at a depth of 40 meters in the Seydisfjordor Bay. This city is also known for producing his own beer, which was called just in honor of the sunken tanker El Grillo. By the way, the grandson of the founder of this brewery is now working the bartender in the local bar with the same name.

16. The quality of the main road in this country deserves no less attention than the mountains, fields, pastures along it, etc.

17. We rarely tried to read the name of the city in which we went. But, the benefit, we did not have, since all, even small, the roads in Iceland have a number, and the pointers are surprisingly different, so it's difficult to get lost here. At the same time, there are signs that you are unlikely to meet in Russia and who have repeatedly forced us to laugh: a low flying plane, a strong wind, a slippery road, a rider, falling from the mountains of stones and, of course, all the species of animals found here.

19. In Iceland there are no high fences and evil dogs. The only fence that we met is a low barbed wire under voltage, which should not give animals to get out on the road. But they still do it, and we have more than once I had to stop the car to give a pair of sheep to climb from asphalt and impose to the dick. But to call for a private territory to get closer to some waterfall, it's normal. Sometimes the owners went out to spread with us a couple of words, sometimes just ignored our presence.

20. Iceland is an excellent place to master extreme driving. Even despite the quality of the road itself, we had to fall in situations that could have ended very depressively. For example, go through the mountains in the fog, allowing to see only a meter forward, or dodge from thick, like a burdyuk with wine, birds, unexpectedly departing from the cuvette, and once the car led so that the seconds of us threw us from side to side, good On the roads here is always empty.

21. Iceland is famous for its low-spirited horses, which still cannot be considered a pony. Ride on them is one of the main tourist entertainment, but it will not work spontaneously. In horseback hikes go groups and for the whole day, so it is necessary to negotiate in advance.

24. Iceland is a beautiful country for Hayking. Here there are campgrounds everywhere, in which you can spend the night for free or for a small fee. But even if you plan to restrict ourselves to a walk for a couple of hours, it is better to prepare and put on trekking shoes and water-fried clothes - they will be accurately useful here.

25. Water on the road was taken from under the crane or in the springs - and there, and there it is clean and suitable for drinking.

26. You can see the deer in a pair of meters from yourself here too. We were lucky - we met a whole herd.

27. Ykaulsurloon - Glacical Lagoon in the south-east of Iceland.

29. Another alien landscape with traces of wheels on gravel.

30. In the spring, when the snow is actively melting, the flow of melt water falls from the mountains and turn into large and small waterfalls.

31. Cape Hyerleva is a great place for Hayking. The most convenient trail is prudently designated by flags, so that anyone will be climbing upstairs. At the top there is a tomb of one of the first inhabitants of Iceland, according to the legend, the consolidated brother Ingolph Arnarson, the founder of Reykjavik. And of course, from there opens an unforgettable view of the Atlantic Ocean.

32. Thus looks like Cape Hyurleva from above.

35. The largest geyser in Iceland is called "Gaysir". It can throw water to a height of up to 60 meters, due to which it became the most famous in Europe. However, most of the time he is in a hibernation, and tourists crowd from his younger fellow, Geyser Strokkur, who throws the water for only 20 m, but even every 5 minutes.

36. As in most Icelandic cities, in Reykjavik, the most famous landmark is the main church, Hatlgrimskirkia. There is a monument to the founder of the city of Ingolph Arnarson.

37. View of Reykjavik with observation in the Church of Hatlgrimskirkia.

38. Boat Ingolph Arnarson in Reykjavik.
