Castelul Peles Castle in Romania

Not only by the Count Dracula is famous for Romania. There is such a castle that seeing once, it is impossible to forget.

Pelsh castle Discussed on the shore of a mountain river, whose name he is wearing. This is a diamond in Eastern Europe's castles necklace, this is the pride of the Romanian kings.

The external decoration is similar to the castle of a sweet fairy tale. He is something similar to a fabulous castle of ice cream and cookies. But at the same time, it differs from all funeral and pompous castles of Western Europe. His stylist can designate like a light Swiss chalet. It is incredibly sparkling, there is just a dazzling architecture, but in something, still, there is a restraint, dissimilar to all other locks. Most likely, the mixture of styles.

Located, the Peles is not away from the city of Sinai. Around the dense forest. The place is quiet and seems to be lost in the forests. The royal dynasty built it for rest. It was planned to spend the summer here.
History of the castle

To this day, Pelesh's castle is the main attraction of Sinai. If Sinai in Romania is called the "Pearl Carpath", the Peles Castle can be called the pearl of Sinai itself. The father-founder of this luxurious and unusual castle was the King of Romania Carol de Gaenzollerne-Sigamren first.

The main entrance rises the statue of Karol I, the work of the Italian sculptor Rafanello Romanelli, he also belongs to the statues from Carrarsky marble, located on the seven charming Italian terraces surrounding the castle and made in the style of non-sources.

Being a German to the brain of bones, but right at the same time in Romania, Karol really missed his homeland. And having visited once in the forests, where the castle stands is now, he captured their beauty. They reminded him their homeland, and he decided to build a castle in these places so that you could come to rest, relax, and would hunt, if desired.

Neither the king, nor the Queen, when still conceived the castle, did not want to have in the forest, the same castles, as those that massively built at that time in Europe, they wanted their own, home family and unlike. But at the same time, so that all styles are present in the new residence.

Architects Wilhelm Doder from Vienna and Johann Schultsu from Lviv was to solve a difficult task, but they coped to the "Hurray". They just took all the most famous architectural styles at that time and mixed them in the same building, so that all this did not look chaotically. The construction of the castle was conducted from 1875, under the ready leadership of these two geniuses.

If we talk about some kind of one style, then the castle of Peles is closest to the neoress. The period of the construction of Pellesh was launched from 1873 to 1914. The opening ceremony of the castle took place in 1883.

The castle was built simultaneously with the power station on the river flowing nearby, so the Peles, this is also the first electrified castle in Romania. Built the castle literally to the whole world. Gypsies and the Turks, Poles, and Czechs worked on him. This international. At the time of the war of independence, construction slowed down, but after, boiled with a new force. Carol was born in this castle. No wonder his father, gave the castle the name of the peese, which meant the cradle of the nation. When Karol was the first at death, he commanded his son to make a museum from Pelo. After the death of the father, Karol the second, as the obedient son fulfilled his death will. The castle began to work as a museum, remaining royal possessions.

As the royal apartment, the castle existed not long. After coming to the power of the Communists, the castle was confiscated to popular property and the miracle was not looted.

Castle after a while, becomes a museum. From 1975 to 1990, the castle is closed for visits. As you know, the then leader com. Party Romania Nocolash Causeca suffered a whole set of phobias. So, so that the castle does not raise the rivable relatives of the then power, the museum workers came up with the legend that the mushroom began in the castle, which spoils wood, and is very harmful to humans. True, it is or not, but the Ceausescu in the castle did not appear.

In 1989, Romania becomes a capitalist country. In 2006, the castle returned to the former king. Mihai entered into the rights of ownership, but soon reached a consensus with the authorities and the castle was sold to the state for 30 million euros. Now he pleases all visitors with his beauty and charm. But with a special trepidation to this castle, cinematographers continue to belong. Not one famous film was filmed here.

A huge number of sculptures, a gorgeous park around, incredible frescoes on the walls, about a wood carving, which adorns the facade of the house, interior decoration, walls, furniture go legends. You can talk about this castle for hours. He perfectly enjoyed his architect, Johann Schulz in the surrounding landscape. Snow-haired cream building with dark wood trim, Ostroeja Turkey, many patterns on the windows, on the roofs, on balustrades. And everywhere frescoes. Supplement the picture of beautiful lights in the park, many sculptures.

In the park is and monument to Queen Elizavetedepicting a spouse Carol first for embroidery - traditional Romanian art. Gardens and terraces are decorated with fountains, urns, stairs, lions, beautiful statues and other decorative details.

The castle has a huge number of exposures, they are constantly changing, not all of his rooms are open to visiting. The collection of weapons is particularly valuable, and this is not a lot of 4,000 items (15-19 centuries, from East to Europe). Another pearl of this castle is a collection of Maximilian gear for horses and knights. This collection, by the way, is one of a kind, in Romania.

Located at the foot of the Mountain Buzgi in the picturesque town of Sinai, Pelesh's castle (Romania) is a masterpiece of the German architecture of a new revival, and in the opinion of many - one of the most beautiful castles in Europe.

After the Peles is considered the second most visited museum in the country. Only in 2006, his threshold crossed two hundred and fifty thousand visitors from the countries of the former Soviet Union, as well as the United States of America, Australia, Japan and New Zealand.

The importance of the castle is also emphasized by existing safety measures - the presence of a large number of guards and video cameras.

Short story

The construction of the Pelesh's castle began in 1873 by order of King Korol the first, under the immediate beginning of the Vienna architect Wilhelm Doderer, and continued until 1876 by his assistant Johann Schultz de Lemberg. During the war (1877-1879), the builders refused to work. Therefore, opened the castle only on October 7, 1883. He had to serve as a summer residence of the royal family. Up until 1947, he performed this feature.

(Photo above) became the first European castle where heating and electricity was conducted. His own power plant was located on the shore of Pelsh Brooke.

The castle takes three thousand two hundred square meters, and the height of each tower is sixty-six meters.

Interior of the castle

Pelesh's castle has one hundred and sixty fully furnished rooms. This includes bedrooms, weapons, libraries, cabinets, game rooms (for card games), thirty bathrooms, hall with hookah, galleries, tea, children's game, conference rooms, breakfast rooms, tableware, kitchens. And this is only the main part.

Each of these premises, as well as halls and hallways, are individually decorated. Therefore, when you walk along the castle, then you don't even guess what style you are waiting for the next door. Decor's ideas were taken from Turkish, Venetian, Florentine, French, Moorish and other styles.

The interior of the castle is striking by spiral stairs, internal balconies, massively decorated mirrors, an endless number of statues, doors that are hidden inside cabinets, a glass roof, which opens in summer, and so on.

To date, only about ten rooms can be attended by tourists from all over quantity.

In the picturesque corner of the Carpathian mountains, on the medieval path, which connects the Valahius and Transylvania was built pelsh castle (Castelul Pelş).

It is located next to the city of Sinai. The capital is 135 kilometers away. The construction of the castle was conducted in the period from 1873 to 1914. The castle received its name in honor of the mountain river flowing in close proximity.

King Carolem I (1839-1914), due to the high cost and insufficient originality, several initial locks of the castle were rejected.

However, the architect Johann Schulz was able to design the castle that I liked the king: a small castle or, rather, a spacious alpine-style palace, combining Italian elegance with aesthetics of a German non-delessant to serve as a summer residence, filled with political, cultural and symbolic meanings.

The architecture of the building is eclectic, there is a lot of things: both Rococo, and Baroque, and Renaissance.

In addition to the king, his wife Elizabeth was also engaged in construction, in whose letters you can find a lot of references to the construction of the Pel. The castle opened only in 1883, but immediately began to reconstruct. Since the castle was built in the second half of the XIX century, during the rapid development of technology, all advanced technologies of that time were used in it. Especially for supplying the castle, a power plant was built, and the peles became the first castle in the world, where he had electricity and even installed an elevator. A little later, in 1916, a cinema was even made in the castle.

In 1947, after the forced renunciation of the throne King Michai, the new government confiscated all the royal property, including the estate and castle of Pelsh. Most of the collections of paintings, furniture, textiles, decorative objects of art and books were transferred to the National Art Museum in Bucharest. For some time the castle was opened for tourists, and in 1953 declared a museum. Service premises of the castle served as a holiday home of Romanian cultural figures

But at the end of the reign, Nicolae Ceausescu Castle Peles was closed for visitors and turned into a residence for the country's leadership. It is worth mentioning the story, thanks to which Nicolae Ceausescu himself very rarely visited him. And all because the museum workers have entered the rumor that in the castle a lot of harmful fungus, and Ceausescu was incredulous in terms of his health.

After 1989, the Peles was again open, and in 2006 the Government of Romania returned the castle of the royal family. But the dynasty refused the Pelo for a modest remuneration - € 30,000,000. The request was performed, and finally, the Pelesh received the status of the State Museum.

Internal design of the lock is not performed in a single style.

In the castle building 160 residential rooms and 30 bathrooms. The interior looks very richly: ebony, china, leather from cord, oriental carpets, tapestries, gold and silverware, paintings, sculptures, ivory.

The most interesting for visiting tourists is considered the King Library (contains more than 800 rare volumes) and its working office (it is not fully decorated, since the king died in the midst of work, and it was decided to leave everything as it is), a dining room, the hall for the audience (there was located there Cinema), halls of meetings and halls of Eastern and European weapons. It is still worth looking into the musical, Moorish, Florentine, oriental and Turkish halls. Their names give an idea in which styles is made and filled with the interior of these rooms.

The park ensemble is also worthy of attention. It is very beautiful here: terraces decorated with beautiful fountains, exquisite stairs, urns, lions, statues from carrarsky marble and various bizarre decorative details.

Pelesh Castle, located near the resort town of Sinai, it is one of the most beautiful castles of Romania. The peles was built in the period from 1873 to 1914 in the style of non-herenissance and at the moment refers to historical monuments.

For the first time in 1866, in places where the castle of Peles was built, the king visited Karol I. The place remained forever in the heart of the king, reminding him of his native Germany. A few years later, he bought these lands in order to build hunting grounds and a summer residence on them. The first architectural projects of the Peles Castle were practically a copy of the Western European palaces, but the monarch refused them, referring to insufficient originality and high cost. As a result, it was decided to build a small palace in Alpine style. Translated into a modern course, the cost of construction of the castle in Romania was estimated at about $ 120 million.

Such a magnificent view opened on the road to the castle of Peles. Wrags, isn't it? We have already thought that this kind is the most beautiful on these lands, but we hurried. The closer to the castle we approached, it became more interesting.

If the city is called "Pearl Carpath", then Peles can be bolded to call the pearl of the city itself. Interestingly, in the guidebooks published in the 1970s -80s, there is not a word about the castle of Peles. And the thing is that the building was used as one of the residences of the Clan Clausca, so the castle gate was closed to the public. Maybe for this reason, the queues of those who want to visit royal rest are built here.

In 1990, after the revolution in Romania, the Castle of Peles was opened for tourists. Attendance can be attended throughout the year, except for November. A visit is possible exclusively as part of the excursion group. I assure you to see it with your own eyes you just need.

Before the castle, the Peles posted a powerful road, cars do not miss there, have to be left in the parking lot. The entrance costs 25 Romanian lei. And still need to wait for a while - depending on the number of sightseeing groups. But during the waiting you can shoot in the courtyard with a fountain. Here is such elegant painting and stucco on the courtyard wallsthat gives the castle Pelsh special beauty.

So, already having the first enthusiastic impressions of the castle, we go inside. At the entrance, everything is necessarily dressing the boots. Excursions, as far as I understood, are held not only in Romanian, but also in English and German. Rooms in the castle of Peles are a lot, but only some of them are available for visiting. It is also not allowed to pass inside the halls, you can only observe from the side.

The highest room of the castle is the main lobbyHis height is 12 meters.

We especially struck two rooms: the refectory and arms hall. The trapes are fully separated by a tree, there are elevators for feeding dishes from the bottom kitchen, expensive sets ... in general, the dining room is furnished as if the reception is about.

Peles Castle is incredibly luxurious: brilliant architecture, a large number of sculptures, frescoes on the walls, wood carving, rich antique furniture. You can list infinitely. The collection of weapons is especially valuedwhich includes about 4,000 items from both Europe and from the east.

In the castle of Peles, the area of \u200b\u200bwhich is more than three thousand square meters. meters, numbered more than 160 rooms and 30 bathrooms. It is a pity that during a 30-minute excursion do not show bedrooms and bathrooms.

It would not say that the inner courtyard of the Pelesh Castle is big, half an hour is quite enough to walk here, consider the details, enjoy different views of the adjacent forest and the Carpathians.

In 2006, Peles Castle was bought by a state for 30 million euros. In addition, many famous films were shot here. Therefore, I confidently recommend you to visit the castle of Peles in Romania!
