Royal Botanical Garden in Prance. Royal Botanical Garden in Sri Lanka

  • 01.06.2021

The Royal Botanical Garden was created in a small town of Perselanding on Sri Lanka for a very long time!

Today, it is visited by about 2 million tourists every year!

The climate contributed to the growth of a wide variety of plants, trees and flowers on the island.
There are some species that grow only on Sri Lanka, and more anywhere.

One of the reasons why people fly to Sri Lanka and fall in love with it, this is the very vegetable manifold!

Highly in the mountains people collect just awesomely delicious!

I also madly wanted to visit the Botanical Garden.

Therefore, today there will be a small story and a photo report about visiting the biggest botanical garden in Asia!

The Botanical Garden in Perangen was created in 1821. It is located 6 km from the city of Kandy, in the Uzluche region of the Mahavel River, - the largest river Sri Lanka.
The park is huge in size! About 60 hectares. This is approximately 84 football fields!

Below is the location map to the Botanical Garden from the city of Kandy.

The park works 365 days a year without days off. Work time from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Park scheme.

A ticket for foreign citizens is per time more expensive than for local.
It cost me 1100 rupees or 280 rubles. At the same time, for the local population, it costs only 50 rupees or 12 rubles.

Paying a ticket, I found myself on the territory.

With a ticket, I was given a small little book describing that you can easily navigate.

Enter here, find yourself in another world. Garden fantastic!

Looking at the map, I decided to get around on the left side.

The first thing I saw was African palm tree From West Africa. Palm oil is extracted from the fruits of this tree.

Here are the biggest trees in the park.

Jackfruit. Or Indian breadpage. His fruits can reach 40kg weight.

There are plates around the park, in which the name is indicated, description and origin.

Agathis Robusta From Australia. A huge evergreen tree with a height of up to 50 meters and a width of up to 16 meters in girth.

These huge bumps grow in massive branches!

The roots of this tree, like tentacles stick out from under the ground.

Very rare and interesting Double coconut palm from the Seychelles.
You can see two coconut together. The fruits take as much as 7 years to mature.

Coconut alley.

Tree called Butterfly Tree. from Asia.

His flowers are similar in shape on the butterfly.

Beautiful flower beds grow along the road.

Flowers.

Then I reached Bamboo collection.

Tropical giant bamboo from China.

It is considered the biggest bamboo in the world.
Height reaches 46 meters, and it can be thick as birch.

Black bamboo from India.

Dog. By the way, I have never seen the dogs of another breed in Sri Lanka.

Lake, with beautiful plantings and island in the center. The swampy plants are mostly growing here. So, for example, the lake is covered with various lilies. And along the lake grows her grass-papyrus from Africa.

Talipota palm From India, Sri Lanka.

When the fetus ripened on the top of the stem, the plant dies.

A tree called "Cannon Ball", it is sacred for Lankans.
His flowers bring to the ceremony into the Temple of the Buddha's tooth.

This tree is called so because of the fruit, similar to the cannonic core.

Medicinal garden.

Almost a third of the population of Sri Lanka prefer traditional medicine.
There are about 235 different types of medicinal plants.

On the territory there are some medicinal cacti.

Collection of diverse lawn grass.

It grows a huge number of different plants. They are so much that it is not clear where to go and what to watch.

These ancient plants grew 300 million years ago.
Outwardly, they are a bit like palm trees. But rarely reach a height above 20 meters.

This tree is called Encefaltos, grows in South Africa.

These plants growing mainly in Mexico.
From the sugar juice of Agava make the famous alcoholic drink, - Tequila.

The track runs along the picturesquely shy up palm trees.

Another view this time Mexican palm trees

But a very interesting tree, which has attracted my attention. It is called Pandanus Leram.
The growing plant has a very interesting form.

But the fruits of this plant. They are edible.

Everywhere along the road grown bamboo.

On the other hand the flower

Interesting plant called Tapeworm Plant.. The attached stalks of this plant resemble belt worms - from here and its name Tape Worm.

You can walk in the botanical garden anywhere. Not only along the paths, but also on the lawn.

Scary cactus.

Many of the bad people on the cactis cut out their names, and various inscriptions, in every way the plant is ugly. The same is done on bamboo.

Just a beautiful plant.

A slightly devoid of the road can be seen that the Mahavel River itself.

Shrub with unreal flowers. Color poured into the sun from pink to burgundy red.

We gradually changed the landscape and types of trees.

Soon I reached Coniferous alley. How it is called "Drunk Christmas Trees" here.
This is Pine CookShe grows in Australia on Cook Islands.

It is noteworthy that they are all bent and grow in one direction, a little falling on the side.

Near a huge field. As for me so very beautiful.

Pine sprigs Cook.

To meet me there was the first local inhabitant of the park, - Monkey.

She behaved calmly, dreamily handing out his eyes, rejoiced the warm sun.

Apparently monkeys only with them slipped and decided to walk walk.

Liana stunning. Their structure of the branches is very unusual to look.
Roots are supervised from under the ground and intertwined with each other under their feet.

But on my way there was a tree, "Hydnocarpus Venenata".
It grows only on Sri Lanka and anywhere else.

It reached a rather picturesque bridge over the river. At the same time, no more than 6 people can be on it. But there are few people following this recommendation campaign and reads signs.

Not far from the bridge, I was met the road with graceful palm avenue.
Height growing here Caribbean royal palm, more than 21 meters.

The weather spoiled, darkened, found tuchci. Flower buds leaned down.

Next to the palm avenue was still a walkway, but I absolutely did not want to get under the rain, and the time for a walk ended.

After a couple of hours I had a train from Candy.

I did not go through it.

At the top of the palm trees hang another inhabitants of the garden, - volatile foxes. They made such noise that they were difficult not to notice. And periodically flew from palm trees on the palm tree.

Reached again to the same huge field. But on the other side.

Fern with hanging strenches.

Cycle of life of ferns

Under the end of my walk, slowly began to stick rain.
But it did not embarrass me.

I looked in, perhaps, the most picturesque place in the botanical garden. There was very beautiful.

Flowers, palm trees, and in the center of the circular greenhouse. The hand of the architect, which created this part of the park!

Inside the greenhouses also grow different plants.

Watering the flower, trees and various plants, which moisture is needed from the hose.

It is good that in addition to the warm climate and temperature +30, the rains are also quite often at Sri Lanka. There are rarely arid months.

In the botanical garden, it grows simply a colossal number of all kinds of vegetation. I showed only a small part of what is there.
But this was enough to feel the beauty that the garden workers were created here, the nature itself was also helped in this.

It is an unreal cool place!

The garden also has an alley of memorable trees planted by heads of state and outstanding people who visited the country. The first such tree was planted by King Edward Seventh - Wood-Bo.
Then, the tree planted with Elizabeth II. Ceylon iron tree - Sri Lanka national symbol, planted Russian king Nicholas II in 1891. There is also a tree planted by cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.

Today, Sri Lanka work on the opening of several other botanical gardens is underway.
One of them in the Hambantota area will be the biggest on Sri Lanka.
It will be twice as much as this in prance.

It is planned to open them in 2016.

That ended my walk along the Royal Botanical Garden.
I think this garden needs to visit everyone who wants to enjoy exotic nature!
I really liked the garden! He is really royal!

Be I have free time, I would walk there days.

But there are still a lot of things in the plans.
Yes, and after a couple of hours I was waiting for a train heading from Candy to a small town Elal.

This will make a story in my post.

Visiting the Royal Botanical Garden

We came to the Royal Botanical Garden (Royal Botanical Garden) in the morning at 10 o'clock, put a moped on the free parking lot along the road and went to buy entrance tickets. The cost of 2016 tickets is 1100 rupees per person, and for local only 50 rupees. This is a local pattern and the way to make money on tourists - everywhere in all attractions. The cost of entering tourists is 20-50 times more than for local! Just think what's the difference! But since we came to watch Sri Lanka with all its attractions, we certainly paid and entered the garden. At the entrance we were given a card of the Botanical Garden and we decided to follow her and get around the garden clockwise. 🙂

At the entrance to the garden, the eyes cuts from bright green shades in a good sense of the word, so nice to look at such a large amount of greenery in one place!

The people were a bit and therefore it was even more pleasant to walk. Almost immediately we saw trees and many pink flowers on the grass - Japanese Sakura. Beauty and only!

After that, we went to the alley of the curves of trees. There are several alleys in the botanical garden and they all have their own name. On the way, we met how you think who? Of course, cute monkeys. One of them was sitting on a bench and looked at others with interest, well, and we, of course, looked at her. 🙂

After that, we saw the alley of the curves of trees. Very funny alley. Since the trees grow with a swamp, some are very leaving left, others right. 🙂 Such a feeling sometimes arose, as if we were a little drunk and in the eyes everything spins-spinning 🙂

By the way, here you can make a small picnic and sit in the shade of trees, relax and eat. But we were limited in time and therefore did not stop and went to explore the botanical garden on. The next point of our admiration was the suspension bridge over the Mahaueli River. Before him there is a guard booth and skip several people to the bridge itself. The bridge is tangible, well, he is suspended, right? We reached the middle of the bridge, here on both sides are beautiful views of the river and the surrounding surroundings.

In the photo above, at the very beginning of the bridge, if you look closely under the bridge, you can see a lot of chipmowns, constantly jumping there and here! We "depended" in this place and watched them for about 15 minutes. They are so cute!

There is also an alley of "born trees". Some of them even branched roots, surprisingly 🙂

Next, we went to look for the Alley Palm. In advance, in Russia, when I studied the sights of Sri Lanka, I read a lot about the botanical garden in a penalty and saw a lot of photos, the main visiting card of this botanical siege was the Alley of Palm. 🙂 According to the card issued to us at the checkout, we found this alley palm trees, it is located in the heart of the Botanical Garden. Alley Palms are very beautiful, we went to walk along it.

But the further we walked along it, the more I understood that in the photo I saw a little different alley of the palm trees. There, palm trees seemed higher and planted closer to each other, and the track itself seemed already. At first, I could not understand how so? Photo-deception?) Looking at the card again, we found another alley of palm trees, but it was on the outskirts of the botanical garden, and on the way there we didn't even meet anyone. It seemed a little strange to us, but as soon as we saw this alley of Palms from afar, everything immediately came together! It was her who I saw in the photo! Palm trees are closer to each other, they are very high and narrowing path! It is here that the effect of high palm trees and the little people who walk through it are created! Judge for yourself!

Very beautiful Alley Palm! I liked it much more than the central! And here are beautiful photos, as people are rarely reaching, this alley is on the outskirts of the botanical garden in the opposite side of its entry and exit. Widowed on this alley, we gathered to go to the exit, as the sky climbed and thunderstorm clouds appeared, even early threatening! This is generally such a feature, we are for the third time in the Botanical Garden in different countries and always fell under tropical showers. Of course, it did not cost this time, but about it further. Look, what beautiful trees grow here, and that you will see only if you walk through all the paths of the botanical garden.

And yes, on the way back, we found another alley of palm trees, but there were quite a bit there, so we quickly passed it.

And this one is closer to the center, along the way to the Orangery orchids. It contains more than 100 different orchid varieties and we certainly wanted to look at them.

We quickly bypassed the central part of the Botanical Garden as the rain began immediately and we ran to the Orchids on the greenhouse, as it was under the roof. You do not need to pay for the entrance to it, it is included in the ticket price.

As a result, we spent an hour in the greenhouse for almost an hour, because on the street mercilessly rained, but it is for the better! We reviewed almost all orchids to the maximum! They are very beautiful, all such different, colored, delicious smelling.

And these are local schoolchildren, they had a vacation and they are whole crowds with us attended all the sights of the beautiful Island of Sri Lanka.
