Dominican Republic - Important tourist information. Dominican Republic what a tourist needs to know Vacation in the Dominican Republic what you need to know

  • 22.07.2020

The high season has started in the Paradise Republic and with this publication we will try to briefly answer the most common questions about the Dominican Republic.

Dominican Republic: Photoshop or Reality?

Even 4 years ago, when exposing photos of paradise beaches on the screensaver of my laptop and phone, I treated them no more than beautiful pictures. And when I first flew to the Dominican Republic, I fell in love with her at first sight. And only here I realized that water in nature really happens to be of such an unusually bright color. And there are places in the world that don't need instagram filters.

Therefore, the most important question for tourists: is the Dominican Republic really so fabulously beautiful? I can safely answer - it's true! Moreover, this country is divided into several resorts, the nature of each of which is strikingly different from each other.

The Dominican Republic is the comfort and beauty of the beaches of the Maldives, the lush tropics of Bali, the soaring cliffs of Thailand, the whirlpool of Las Vegas nightlife ... These are pink flamingos, giant sea stars, beaches from advertising Bounty and the very heavenly delight that every tourist dreams of.

Weather in Dominican Republic

Local residents, and these are mainly Catholic believers, say: when God created the Earth, he created the Dominican Republic for himself.

The season in this country lasts all year round... The air temperature in summer is + 28 + 30 C, in winter + 26 + 30 C. At night, the temperature does not drop below 22 C.

And the water temperature is either equal to the air temperature (in summer) or just a couple of degrees lower (in winter).

Nevertheless, the best is considered to be a vacation in Dominican Republic from mid-autumn to April. These months are called the high season. And all because on others popular resorts, such as Cote d'Azur France, Spain, Turkey, Bulgaria - for traditional beach holiday it gets cool.

Therefore, the country harmoniously combines unique natural and historical sights - the Palace and Lighthouse of Columbus, the impregnable fortresses of their time, the first cathedrals and temples ...

In the Dominican Republic, the famous seeker of the source of youth, Juan Ponce de Leon, lived and even ruled one of the provinces. And this is a real person, not a fictional character.

But nevertheless, most of the tourists go precisely for the beautiful nature and there are more than enough amazing objects here!

There are many "champions" in the paradise republic. For example, here is the highest point of the Antilles, a mountain - Peak Duarte, 3098 m high.

And also the highest waterfall in the Caribbean - 210 meters.

The famous mountain with a winged swing at the top -.

Forewarned is forearmed! Armed with the travel tips we have collected in this article, you can avoid many problems and unpleasant surprises during your stay in the Dominican Republic.

The best time to travel to the Dominican Republic is from October to May. But keep in mind that in winter, vouchers are more expensive. Summer on the island is also good, but a little more humid and rainy. Therefore, the demand for trips to the Dominican Republic in the summer falls, and you can catch a tour at a very good price.

If you want to relax on the Atlantic coast, the resorts of Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, Sosua and Cabarete are suitable for you. And if you like the Caribbean Sea, choose the resorts of Boca Chica, Juan Dolio or La Romana.

Choosing a hotel, you can be sure of the quality of service - in the Dominican Republic it is everywhere at its best. But pay attention to the reviews of other tourists about the hotel beach - in the Dominican Republic there are beaches with seaweed and stones!

Exchange money for dollars before you travel. In the Dominican Republic, it is impossible to exchange rubles for local currency. It makes no sense to take the euro with you: in the Dominican Republic, the rate of this currency is equal to the dollar.

Going to the Dominican Republic, do not neglect health insurance. In this country, medicine is very expensive. Having insurance will help you avoid high costs if you suddenly need the help of a doctor.

Collect a first aid kit for the trip: in the Dominican Republic you will need remedies for burns, indigestion, colds, mosquitoes and pain relievers.

Try to prepare your body in advance for jet lag. To do this, a few days before the trip, try to go to bed and get up a little later than usual. Moscow time is exactly 7 hours ahead of Dominican time.

If you are flying on vacation outside of the summer, take your flip flops, a T-shirt and shorts in your carry-on luggage - if you change into summer clothes on the plane, you will not have to sweat in boots and a sweater at the Dominican airport! Do not forget to put a regular pen in your bag - at airports you will have to fill out migration cards.

Bring interesting reading material with you on the plane and download more movies to your tablet - this will help pass the time in flight, because it lasts 12 hours. And in order to have a good time, we advise you to take a guide to the Dominican Republic with you and study it on the way.

If you are traveling with children, prepare entertainment for them: books, coloring books, games and cartoons will help the child to sit still during a long flight. It is easier to fly with a child at night - he will sleep on the road.

While on the plane, try to drink plenty of water and avoid alcoholic drinks and energy drinks to keep your body refreshed and refreshed by the time you arrive.

On the plane, you will be asked to fill out a migration and customs card. Please fill in these documents carefully and legibly in Latin letters.

Prepare small bills in advance - at the Dominican Republic airport you will need to pay a tourist fee of $ 10. You will also need a small change if you want to tip someone. This is welcomed in the Dominican Republic.

If you are planning a long trip, keep in mind that you have the right to freely stay in the Dominican Republic for no more than 1 month. If your stay drags on, it's okay, you just have to pay a fine on departure. The amount of the fine depends on how much you exceeded the allowed time (minimum $ 50 per person)

Upon arrival at the airport, in order to save time and quickly get to the hotel, you can refuse the group transfer and take a taxi (the cost of the trip starts from $ 30, depending on the distance). Or book a private transfer in advance.

If you do not plan to leave the tourist area, then buying the local currency - the peso - is not at all necessary. Dollars are accepted almost everywhere. However, be prepared for the fact that in many establishments, shops and supermarkets you will receive change on your purchase in pesos. Also, in the resorts of the Dominican Republic, bank cards are accepted for payment almost everywhere.

If you still decide to change money, we do not recommend changing money at the airport and hotels - there are the highest rates. It is better to do this at banks or exchange offices.

If you decide to visit a local restaurant, carefully consider the menu. Very often, a tax of 18% of the order amount is added to the amount of the check - information about this is usually indicated at the bottom of each page of the menu.

In the Dominican Republic, almost all hotels use American-style 110 volt outlets. Therefore, you will need an adapter, which you can easily buy in hotel stores or in the city. You should take your hair dryer or electric shaver only in a set with a special electricity transformer - in Dominican sockets, the voltage is exactly 2 times less than in Russia.

If the hotel has a poor internet connection, or if it is too expensive, don't be discouraged; you can buy a SIM card from one of the local operators: Orange or Claro, which provide internet access on good terms.

In the Dominican Republic, do not drink tap water. Use bottled water. Get in the habit of taking a bottle of water with you on a tour - on a hot day it will come in handy.

Wash your hands well before eating. Fruits and vegetables are best washed with soap.

At the hotel, keep your money and jewelry only in the safe. Also, do not walk alone along deserted beaches and dark city streets - you can be robbed.

Even on a cloudy day, be sure to use sunscreen - it is very active in the Caribbean. You will need a cream with a protection factor of at least 50 SPF, and for children and people with delicate skin, we recommend using products with a factor of 80 or even 100 SPF.

Take mosquito repellent, best of all in the form of a spray or lotion - domestic electrofumigators do not work on Dominican mosquitoes. Or purchase mosquito repellent locally.

Don't be afraid to leave the hotel grounds. In the Dominican Republic, it is not as scary as hotel guides like to tell about it. Observe the basic safety rules that are relevant in any country: do not flaunt expensive equipment and jewelry, do not carry large amounts of money with you.

There is another little life hack for your safety: thieves usually easily identify tourists by the hotel bracelet on their wrist. To disguise it when leaving the hotel, put on a light long-sleeved sweater.

We advise you to be wary of compatriots living in the Dominican Republic and too obsessively offering you their friendship. Never agree to send parcels from the Dominican Republic to Russia - very often drugs are sent this way. But in case of exposure, all responsibility for breaking the law falls on the gullible tourist.

Bring a Spanish phrasebook with you on vacation or download it to your phone. In the Dominican Republic, even the hotel staff speaks very poor English. Therefore, it will be very useful to have several Spanish phrases in the vocabulary.

Always bargain in small shops and markets. In supermarkets and restaurants in the Dominican Republic, prices are fixed.

The best way to get to know the Dominican Republic is to take one of the excursions. Do not rush to buy excursions from your tour operator - most likely, their prices will be overpriced. Buying excursions from excursion agencies is much more profitable.

If you are traveling to the Dominican Republic for the first time, then we advise you to visit the paradise island of Saona, the capital of the republic - the city of Santo Domingo, and also go to the most picturesque province of the country, located on the Samana Peninsula.

When going on an excursion that lasts all day, take a light raincoat with you - in the Dominican Republic, a tropical downpour can start completely unexpectedly. However, the rains end as quickly as they begin.

Take care of your equipment while traveling by sea! Salt spray can damage even a very expensive camera or phone. It is wise to purchase a waterproof camera case.

If you like independent travel, you can rent a car for a few days. When concluding a lease, carefully inspect it and take a picture in the presence of the landlord of every scratch and dent. This will help avoid misunderstandings when returning the vehicle.

In addition to the usual taxi, in the Dominican Republic there is also an exotic taxi "motoconcho". The name literally translates as "motorcycle with a chauffeur". While motorcycle rides can be a little extreme, they cost a lot less than usual. Whatever type of taxi you decide to use, be sure to negotiate the price in advance, or even better - write it on paper and make sure that the driver understands and agrees.

In the Dominican Republic, traffic on the roads is very chaotic. If you are driving yourself, be very careful and watch out for sudden motorcycles.

You can buy fruits in the Dominican Republic not only in a supermarket, but also from a special fruit machine. A car loaded with a wide variety of fruits moves around the city throughout the day. Check with your guide at what time you can find her near your hotel.
