What to do in Yerevan in the summer. Three walking routes in Yerevan

  • 29.12.2019

Since the main focus on this journey was made on trips to the corners of Armenia and Karabakh, then Yerevan himself had to sacrifice somewhat. A little sorry for course: Yerevan is one of the most beautiful cities of the post-Soviet space. On the other hand, what to do: for one trip you all do not have time, and the priorities of this trip were a little others: in Yerevan, you can simply fly to walk on any weekend - or company, but to ride far from the corners Caucasus with local knowledgeable and passionate people - rare luck! Nevertheless, even though this time the Armenian capital went out to see only extremely running (in Yerevan walked only early in the morning and even in the evenings darkening), I managed to have an inner impression about her, since I lived in the very center of the city. Well, what I will not give in photos, I will try to describe in words if possible. :)

Yerevan is located in the northeastern part of the Ararat Plain on the plateau at an altitude of 800-1300 m above sea level. The plateau on which the city is located, from three sides is bounded by the mountains. In the North-West, an array of Aragians, in the north - Canker Plateau, in the East - Gegham Mountains, and, finally, in the south, Yerevan Basil is smoothly descending into the Valley of the Araks Border River, for which (already on the territory of modern Turkey) is towers a majestic Ararat. IN good weather Ararat is simply amazing from the city, being (albeit at the same time in another state) one of the main dominant Yerevan. The appearance and layout of modern Yerevan were already in soviet time - Since 1924, the large-scale reconstruction of Yerevan, conducted under the leadership of Alexander Tamanyan, who has developed a special national style Using elements of traditional church architecture and tuff as a building material. The architect then presented the Government of the Republic of the General Plan of the Sun City Garden, where the center was glad boulevard Ring, houses and quarters on the slopes of the hills, as if viewers, were addressed to Ararat, and the two main squares - in front of the government home and the opera house - turned the city to the capital.

The central part of the Armenian capital is closed by almost the right ring of the streets of Horagsa, Saryan, Muscan, Hangean. This ring, like rays, cross the main highways of the city - Mashtots Avenue, Terry Street, Abovyan, Nalbandian, Tumanyan, Amiryan and Sayat New Avenue. And in the center of the ring is the Republic Square, architectural ensemble Which is a house of government, the house of ministries, the hotel "Armenia Marriott", the house of communication, the building of the museum complex and of course - the famous "singing fountains". With the central square, we will start our small photo copy. :)

1. In the evening of the first day ... Friendly dinner with Armen and Gagik, at the conversations, it was imperceptibly pulled away. And after dinner, it was very nice to wander around the night Yerevan, breathe frosty air, admire the dazzling stars, which here, in the Caucasus, shine is much brighter and closer than we have in the middle strip. Yerevan is a very cozy, quiet and peaceful city.

4. Early morning ... View from the hotel window ... Surb (Cathedral) Grigor Lusavorich, Yerevan Cathedralbuilt in 2001.

5. And again the central area, this time lit by soft morning light. Special coloring Yerevan gives a variety of building materials - volcanic tuffs of various shades, fellsites, basalts ...

10. In the very center of Yerevan, the Cascade is one of the unique corners of the city - the fantasy project of the famous Armenian architect Alexander Tamanyan (according to the project of which the modern appearance of Yerevan was created), the architects of Jim Torosyan and Sarkis Gurzadyan had been created in life. Step transitions are harmoniously connected with a small square, from where the stairs and escalators can rise to the main viewing platform of Yerevan, which offers stunning views of the city. At the beginning of the square, a monument to Tamanyan, carved from gray basalt blocks, which many at the base of this city. The granite inscription on the monument reproduces the string from the verse of the Armenian poet Charents: "He probably grated this sunny city ..."

12. For the stairs of the "Cascade" you can reach the recreation park "Ahtanak" ("Victory") with attractions and ferris wheel. There is a grave of an unknown soldier with eternal fire and the monument "Mother-Armenia".

13. We walk a little along the streets ... Monument to the artist Martiros Saryan.

14. In the center of Yerevan set many interesting monuments - Right on benches. Here is one of them - the great Soviet Armenian chess player Tigran Petrosyan ... True, now the monument is somewhat incomplete - originally on the bench, right under the coat of arms, there was also a big chessboard, which was bent the grandmaster (if interesting, photo of this monument with a board you are easy Find on the Internet). Alas, apparently, the board has suffered the same fate, which regularly comprehends the Nagan sculptural sailor at our Moscow metro station "Revolution Square". I hope the chess board Petrosyan will still be returned - with her this monument, of course, looks completely different ...

15. Surrounded by Ring of Boulevards Center Yerevan is completely compact - just a couple of steps, and you have to enter the opera house.

16. And the Opera House is connected to the Republic of the Republic with a pedestrian street, which is called the Northern Avenue. There are many shops, cafes and restaurants.

17. So we made at all small circle In the center of Yerevan and again found themselves in singing fountains of the Republic Square.

20. Another morning walked from the Republic's Square to the other side, to the Canyon of the River River. One of soviet monuments Yerevan - Revolutionary Alexandru Measnikyan.

If you have 2-4 free days, I propose to go to Armenia. During this time you have time to charge new impressions, know all the charm of Armenian hospitality, taste local cuisine And leave here a part of your heart.

How to get and where to live

It is necessary to get to Armenia by plane. Tickets - from 4400 rubles depending on the airline. From the airport to the city - on one of the minibuses for 40-50 rubles (200 drams) 20 minutes away. Armenia - cheap country, there are many different budget hotels And hostels on any wallet.

It is best to have in stock 3-4 days - then you will be able to see half of the country. But two days will be enough for you to impregnate by the local culture. We were lucky: friends recommended a guide with the car. We wrote their wishes to him in places, and he already offered the best route. Even almost waved in Georgia, which is just three hours drive from Yerevan.

Yerevan

Armenian hospitality begins right in the minibus: "Guests are expensive, your stop!" - the driver announces loud.

Legends say that Yerevan got his name from the exclamation of Nov "Yerevats!" (What does it mean "she appeared!") When he saw Ararat. Splinter Noeva Ark You can see at the local museum.

Yerevan's heart - Republic Square with singing fountains. In the evening, a music show begins: tourists, local with kids admire, dancing and make selfie against a colorful spray. On the other hand, the northern prospectus, which reminds of something Arbat. There are branded shops, European-type restaurants, musicians and other local talents.

A little further is another central place - Opera House. 7 minutes directly and, perhaps, the main attraction of Yerevan, which overlooks the entire city surrounded by the mountains - Cascade. Be sure to climb there at sunset to see a pink-cutting Yerevan in the rays of the setting sun. The cascade is surrounded by fun monuments: Blue Penguin, a man from the letters, a lush lady and not only.

Now in Yerevan is much warmer than in Moscow. There is a real spring: the sun blends mighty, blooms greens, grows her grass, the aroma of Cherchet is growing in the air. Walk - one pleasure.

To get around the whole city enough for a whole day. Many attractions are among residential arrays (maps.me to help). But walking in the courtyards, you look at nonposable places. Most of all I was impressed with ropes with clothes, graffiti on the walls and painted arches of houses. Right on the streets are tents with bright fragrant flowers.

Unlike Russia, there are walking and sit in the seeds around the churches. For example, in Echmiadzin, where there is a religious museum with shrines and the main Armenian church, full of parents with children, retirees - they are sitting on the benches or stroll through the large area.

Traveling around the country

Armenia is a very beautiful country. I was surprised there everything: the ideal triangular ridges of the mountains, age, wisdom and architecture of the ancient monasteries, air, wellness and openness of people, the aroma of cherries and honey in the gardens, the noise of mountain rivers and mineral water. It is strange that with such a cheapness and beauty in Armenia a bit of tourists.

Lake Sevan is an hour's drive from Yerevan on a picturesque peninsula. Magnet for tourists (and for local) - an ancient monastery. Armenian churches are very modest and monumental: most of them retained the appearance, but the restoration is needed. Inside them, several icons or even faded images of Jesus, ancient sacred patterned crosses - Khachkars. By the way, you will not find two identical Khachkarov - the pattern is similar, but everywhere is different. For me, the mystery, as was done in ancient times, when there was a small choice of tools. Our guide said that there is not only sacral meaning in cutting patterns on the stone. It was very difficult to work on it - it checked the hardness of faith.

On the lake blowing the wind, but at the end we smiled at luck: the sun turned out and turned the steel smooth of the lake in a blue color. The season here begins in August-July. Here they bathe, fish, ride scooters. It is still for the sake of exciting species that open from the hill of the peak of the peninsula.

The second most popular place is Tatev. To get there, we left at 6 am. But they met dawn and saw the peaks of Ararat blush in the rays of the sun. The spectacle is unforgettable!

Four hours drive and you will find yourself in the mountains where the longest runs cable car in the world - Wings of Tatev. In 12 minutes and 3,500 drams of the cabin will carry you over the gorges straight to the ancient monastery. All profits from tickets goes to its restoration. Once there lived 500 monks, now there are only four. In the monastery there is a monk whose person is illuminated by kindness. He is often removed by the arriving telegroups, for example, he is in the "eagle and rush". He gladly communicates with tourists. If you go down from the monastery by car, you can stay near the source with mineral water. A little further there will be a small swimming pool with a warm source and a mountain river (you can take a swimsuit and a towel).

Gegard (He is - Iwrank, he - Gehhard) - an ancient monastic complex, where the spear was kept at one time, which Jesus was killed. The complex is among the cliffs and is included in the UNESCO Heritage List. The monastery was founded in the fourth century AD. Like other Armenian churches, it is characterized by suitable patterns on the stone around the perimeter both outside and from the inside. From the inside the church is striking even more: monumental huge vaults, cold stones, sunlight through narrow windows, patterned ceiling - Is it really all the man?

Choir of Virap Located at the foot of Ararat. From the walls of this monastery, a border with Turkey is visible. According to legend in the dungeon of the monastery 13 years sat Sv. Gregory The Educator is one of the first Armenian saints. The dungeon is big, deep and cold - tourists can go there and feel the whole horror. At one time, the spiritual center of the Armenian religion was located in the choir Virape.

Noravank - Another monastery complex is 122 km from Yerevan. It is in the warm gorge among orange mountains. And it was built in the 13th century! After eight centuries, the stone church preserved well, however, the inner decoration in it is concise: stone and several large icons. The complex has several ancient Khachkarov, one of which is dated 1308th year. It is very easy to get lost in time - there is a feeling that the boundaries are erased.

Zavargnotz - The temple of the "tanning angels" near Yerevan is included in the UNESCO Heritage List. Unfortunately, now there are some ruins in the middle of a flowering greenery. Here they love to photograph newlyweds.

Another place that is very impressed - Echmiadzinsky monasterywhere the main Armenian church is located and lives Patriarch. The main church is not like all those that we saw: it is rich decorated with icons, flowers and painting. Directly in it is a museum with Holy Relics: under the glass there are ancient books of handmade 15-16 centuries, particles of the power of saints, souls and the clothing of clergy and two amazing exhibits - a bogid-sized spear and part of the Noahow Ark. You can see all exhibits yourself, and then ask questions Guid. Do not forget during inspection to look up on amazing beauty painted ceiling.

Garny - The pagan temple, which was built according to all the rules of geometry. Built in the likeness of Roman temples: columns, triangular roof. This is the only preserved completely pagan monument in Armenia. Top rises nine steps (three times three), and 24 perimeter columns symbolize ether or heavenly arch. If you look at the drawing, you can see equilateral triangles (again the sacred number 3), the circle in which 6 circles are followed (6 - perfection) and in some proportions of the number 8 (infinity) and 5 (in some cultures the number of creation). It is no coincidence that Garni is called a reflection of space.

Food and Drinks

Armenia is a paradise of fresh vegetables and fruits, nuts, dried fruits, greenery and, of course, meat. Plus the country is that it is possible to get a large portion of food for 200-300 rubles. Full dinner for two will cost rubles 800: pizza, soup, snack, side disk. Unlike Moscow, you can enter almost any cafe - prices do not bite. The most famous - the Tashir Pizza network, the Tavern "Old Yerevan" and "Yerevan" (opposite Opera House At the corner of the Northern Avenue and in the Revolution Square), the network Karas.

The city is full of shops and bakers, where you can buy fresh pastries: crispy khachapuri with cheese, pies, meat in pita or greens in the dough (Women's Hats). The most delicious baking next to Sevan: there is a huge shop, there are different ovens (including on fire), where everyone is prepared right with you. We were impressed by huge crispy khachapuri, similar to Baguette. They are taken directly from the oven, carefully wrapped in the parchment and hand in hungry tourists. Mmm!
Another National Pride of Armenia - Coffee. There is a lot of cafes in the city center, where you are boiled to all the rules.

I could not pass by grilled vegetables, kebabs and khachapuri in Ajars. I also advise you to try dried fruits, which absorbed all the sun, Churchhel, Fastille (or Fasting with stuffing nuts and honey), Puff pastry with a sweet filling of Gata.

From drinks you can evaluate wine, brandy and apricot vodka. In Yerevan and in its surroundings, there are a lot of brandy and wine productions, where you will not only tell the secrets of cooking drinks, but also treat them. We tried a pomegranate wine, which turned out to be soft and apricot vodka (64 degrees! But the stack saves from the cold).

"How do you use our service?" - one Armenian asked me in Moscow. "Little pies are not at all small ...". And that's it.

  • Take a warm sweater and hat to Lake Sevan. And it's better to still coat, scarf. Do not look at the fact that in Yerevan it is hot. On Sevan blowing the penetrating wind. Weather in the mountains are unpredictable. The hat and the second sweater would save me from a terrible cold.
  • Find an experienced guide by car (you can also take a car yourself). We recommended familiar. Very satisfied - three days on a comfortable car with a cool man. We could not see so much.
  • Choose local sweets as souvenirs (Churchhel, Paxtil, Gato), Armenian coffee, pomegranate wine or grenade (symbolizes fertility, love, success).
  • Do not pass by grandmother in Garni, which prepares the most delicious jam (from berries, fruits, cones), honey, pasteil, Gato, and others. Her tray is extreme on the left, if you stand back to the goal. Grandmother is unique: it was even included in the guidebooks in Armenia.
  • From the airport just and cheap to get to the center. Get out from the first floor and go to the right to the stop. There are minibuses that will take you to the center much cheaper than the drivers are asked.

Eastern cities always attract thousands of tourists. The reason for this is still not defined. Perhaps the case in the unique culture of the East, and maybe the reason lies in the hospitality of the inhabitants. Perhaps the case and in ancient historySupported by excellent architecture. Whatever it was, but now Yerevan is one of the main cities of the East in popularity ratings among tourists. And what was before?

History Yerevan

Yerevan consider one of ancient settlements on the planet. He leads his story from the ancient fortress of Erebuni, founded by the king of Urartu by Argishti I. It happened during the heyday of the ancient state - in 782 BC. This date is considered the year of the founding of Yerevan, although this version is very controversial. The fact is that Erebuni was built within the modern Yerevan, but on his southern border. And in the 4th century BC, when Uranta was no longer on the map (the Fortress of Erebuni before that time still existed as part of Persia or as an independent settlement), went to the fly. Thus, from IV to III centuries. BC There were no settlements in this place at all. However, this version does not have accurate proof, so scientists decided to believe that Yerevan is a direct heir to Erebuni, which is in favor of what the semantic resemblances.
With an already modern title, Yerevan appeared again in sources with the emergence of Armenia as a separate state. For the first time in Armenian, he is mentioned in the "Letters Book" in 607 of our era. The city appears in the book due to the fact that one of the Armenian Church of Daniel remained the faithful Chalkidon Cathedral. In this century, Yerevan was the main defense and military paragraph of the war of Persia and Byzantium. In 650, Arabs are besieged, but they take the city only after 8 years. After another 2 years, the current capital occurs a rebellion, as a result, the authorities return to Armenians. At the same time, the Arabs are expelled from the entire territory of Armenia, where the new kingdom rises - Anonya.
Almost two centuries, the new Great Armenia lives in prosperity, but in 1045 he is conquered by Byzantium. Yerevan himself captures Selzhuki Turks, but the city remains and even grows. Until 1387, when the settlement destroys Tamerlan, destroying it almost completely, the capital of Armenia flourished, 20 thousand people lived here. In general, before the start of the destructive wars of the XVI-XVII centuries. Yerevan was under the rule of the Turks several times (they were important cultural Center), Tatar-Mongols (did not pay attention to the value of the settlement) and directly Armenians (legal owners of the city).
With the beginning of the war between Sefevids and the Ottoman Empire, Yerevan became one of the key strategic paragraphs of the region. All Armenia was then considered the arena of destructive battles, who seriously reduced the national-indigenous population and increased the share of Turks and Kurds. During the war, Polisa passed for various authorities 14 times, and in the end got troops Russian Empire. Numerous shifts of rulers, population cleaning, destruction cultural monuments They affected the appearance of the city, which in the New Century entered the bloodless and depressed. You can mark several key battles for Yerevan and their consequences:
- At the beginning of the XVI century, the beginning of military actions for Yerevan laid the seizure of the city of Ismail Sefvi - the founder of the Sefavid dynasty;
- In 1554, the destruction of the settlement and the murder of almost all Armenians answered Turks;
- In 1580, the Ottoman Empire strengthened in Yerevan by the troops of Vizier Lala Mustafa Pasha. Farhat-Pasha in two years erected here a powerful fortress with double walls, towers and a bridge;
- In 1604, Yerevan returned to Sefvidam thanks to the attack of Shah Abbas I. At the same time, the Shah, fearing the attacks of Ottomans, ordered to evict the entire population of Yerevan and the surrounding territories of Glub of Persia. Using the tactics of the "scorched land", Sefevidam managed to maintain the region;
- In 1635, the Turks again captured the city, but returned to his Persians in a couple of months. The peace treaty of 1639 finally consolidated Yerevan for Persia.
Under the rule of Sefavid, as part of Persia, a separate Erivanic (Yerevan) kingdom was allocated. In national composition, Muslims prevailed, whereas ethnic Armenians lived in the city itself. These people were considered masters of crafts and trade, an important part of Yerevan, but were obliged to obey the Arab feudal. The city itself was divided into quarters, he had more than 2000 houses, several dozen churches, 2 schools and 2 markets. By the time the seizure of the Russian Empire there was only 6 thousand inhabitants, which led the result of the war.
Russia tried to take Yerevan before - in 1804-1808, in the years of the first war with the Persia. Then both attacks were unsuccessful, but Russian troops were successful in the second war, in 1827 he moved to the Russian Empire under the conditions of the world of the second Russian-Persian war along with all Erivan Khanate. Then the city became the center of Armenian province, which was later renamed Erivanian. Under the conditions of the world, residents of Khanate were allowed to switch over the border of Russia and return to Persia. The results of resettlement reduced the number of residents of Yerevan to 12 thousand, while the share of Armenians increased to 40%. By the beginning of the twentieth century, almost 30 thousand people lived here, the first half of them was Azerbaijani, the second - Armenian. Russian numbered only 2%.
Even the fact that Yerevan was the capital of the province, did not help him recover. He was typical provincial, with low-rise clay houses and many ruins. Laying the railway here to Persia and Tiflis helped develop economic potential. Subsequently, schools and gymnasium opened, industrial development began, founded the tram line.
Czechhard revolutions did not significantly affect Yerevan. In 1918, he became the capital of the First Armenian Republic, in 1920, the parts of the Red Army were included here. A year later, the power of Bolsheviks turned out to be dropped during a popular uprising, but almost immediately regular parts of the Red Army restored their dominance.
