The "Christ from the Abyss" statue was placed in the water on August 22, 1954, this sculpture was created by Guido Galetti, inspired by the Italian diver Duilio Marcante. The statue was placed near the site visited by Dario Gonzatti, the first Italian to use a scuba gear, and he died in 1947.

Ligurians know a lot about them: it was they who invented the famous "pesto", which is traditionally made from olive oil, cheese and basil.

What to visit?

The city of Genoa is a godsend for any self-respecting tourist. Here is one of the oldest lighthouses in the world - the giant La Laterna (117 meters high!) And the largest aquarium in Europe.

The grandiose Palazzo Bianco (“ White Palace») - the main building of Genoa (on Via Garibaldi). An art gallery with masterpieces of painting of the 13th-17th centuries is open inside it. And the Palazzo Bianco itself, together with the adjacent Palazzo Doria Tursi (aka Palazzo Nicolo Grimaldi) and Palazzo Rosso (“The Red Palace”), forms the “museum triangle” of Genoa.

In the main square, Piazza de Ferrari, are Opera theatre Carlo Felice, the Academy of Fine Arts, the Garibaldi statue and the Doge's Palace (not to be confused with the famous historic building in Venice!).

Although Genoa is known primarily for its medieval monuments, there is one very curious site here that added to the list of local attractions just a few years ago. A huge galleon is installed on the city embankment, which was built specifically for filming everyone's favorite “Pirates Caribbean". So, if you wish, in Genoa, you can take an excursion into film history.
