In the northwestern part of the Strait of Malacca lies the Langquai archipelago, consisting of 99 inhabited and wild islands. Eponymous main island is the center of a civilization with a developed tourist infrastructure... He receives the majority of guests. Langkawi Island is famous for its white beaches and coves for private relaxation. There are almost no roads, transport is rare, so a bicycle and legs are considered the best means of transportation.

In the center of the Malacca archipelago lies the island of Borneo. It is divided between 3 states. Malaysia owns only 26% of its territory, but this is enough to enjoy the beauty wildlife... Borneo's rainforests are older than the Amazonian ones. They are home to endemic animals that are not found anywhere else on the planet. A clean environment provides endless opportunities for diving and snorkeling. Beach vacation will bring a lot of pleasure.

On the west coast of the peninsula, in the state of Parak, there is amazing island Pangkor. It is located just 2 km from the mainland, with which it is connected by a bridge. The beauty of this resort is the absence of crowds of noisy tourists. On idyllic beaches, there is always a place for a secluded getaway. Get to know the lifestyle local residents is an interesting opportunity that should not be neglected.

It is a small island located near Pangkor. Despite the fact that it is a private property, anyone can get there. One of the most luxurious hotels in Malaysia, Pangkor Laut Resort, is built here. The island amazes with the beauty of pristine beaches, tropical forests and sapphire bays. It will appeal to newlyweds and those looking for a quiet rest.

The island is located in the western part of the country. It got its name from the betel nuts that grow in abundance in these parts. Georgetown is not only the capital of the island, but the entire state. It is on the list world heritage UNESCO due to the large number of architectural monuments.

Penang is a rather lively place with developed infrastructure, skyscrapers, offices of large companies, shopping centers and restaurants for every taste. First of all, tourists come here for excursions, shopping and entertainment. Beach vacations are available in just a few locations. Neat coastline offers a standard range of services and entertainment.

Radang is a group of islands lying east of the Malacca Peninsula. Here tourists are expected not only by picturesque landscapes, swimming in the sea, soft sand, but also a marine reserve. Other activities include canoeing along the coast.

The city lies on west coast the mainland and is the capital of the state of the same name. Malacca is considered cultural center countries with many attractions recognized as world heritage. In addition to spiritual food, there is entertainment for every taste: restaurants, nightclubs, bars. Shopping malls offer a variety of products. You can stay in the luxurious apartments of a 5-star hotel or a budget guest house.

Since Malacca is major port, you should not count on a measured beach vacation.

This is a small stretch of land located in the east, 40 km from the mainland. Tioman is in the top-10 of the cleanest and most beautiful islands on the planet, so the rest on it cannot be called budget, despite the undeveloped infrastructure. Not every village on the island has electricity and running water.

Upon arrival, each tourist must pay 5 ringgit, which goes to the fund for the maintenance of the local reserve. Nature has been preserved in its pristine purity. There are many beautiful intimate beaches, the transparency of the water reaches 35 m, so one of the favorite pastime of tourists is snorkeling and diving.

This miniature tropical gem is located next door to Tioman, 16 km from east coast... Rava Island has nothing but a beach and a few bungalows. Here everyone will feel like a hermit far from civilization and its technological benefits. Entertainment: sunbathing, fishing, windsurfing, canoeing and snorkelling. There are almost no tourists on the island, so you can safely call yourself the sole owner of tropical lands.

This tiny islet of volcanic origin is located in the eastern part of the state of Sabah. Sugar beaches are flanked by dense rainforest. Wildlife fans and divers love to visit Sipadan. Jacques Yves Cousteau himself admired the underwater beauty. Coral fish of all colors, barracudas, turtles, tuna and other representatives of ichthyofauna can be found here.

The Cameron Mountains, or Cameron Highlands, are considered a popular destination. Fans will love it here active rest and eco-tourism. From local hotels, you can go hiking for several hours or days, ride elephants, take a walk in the forest, where rare inhabitants of flora and fauna live. Clean air and moderate exercise will benefit office workers in sweltering cities.

Kuala Lumpur is a very modern metropolis, where both relaxing and active beach holidays are possible, but this city has its own characteristics, and the prices for everything that tourists need, as numerous reviews say about this place, are quite acceptable.

Google maps/ google.ru

Although literally from the first step, the metropolis deafens with noisy motley crowds, bustle, tangible speed of rhythm, even for Muscovites, this is just the first impression. Not far from this "anthill" full of lights and life there are absolutely quiet, fabulous beaches, where there is nothing but the sound of the waves rustling on the sand.

A little about the city

Kuala Lumpur is central, although not the most Big City on the Malacca Peninsula, in its southwestern part. While looking at any tourist avenue or brochure gives the impression of a swarm of skyscrapers and neon lights, Kuala Lumpur was founded in 1857 and has a lot to see besides glass and concrete.

The city has many buildings built in the magnificent French colonial style, no fewer mosques - from old to ultra-modern, there are also Buddhist temple complexes.

In addition to architecture, Kuala Lumpur can offer rich shopping, all kinds of family amusement parks, an aquarium, tropical gardens, a variety of restaurants with a variety of culinary themes and a full nightlife.

All this perfectly complements the relaxation by the sea and makes a beach holiday in Kuala Lumpur truly rich, varied and complete.

About beaches

In Kuala Lumpur itself, there are no beaches that travelers expect to see. There are excellent wooden walkways with restaurants, cozy bungalows, romantic lanterns and beautiful views of both skyscrapers shining with night lights and the water of the Gulf of Malacca.

Indra Gunawan / flickr.com

There are stunning waterfront promenades that are different from all similar places in Asia and more reminiscent of southern Europe than the East Asian coasts.

All those fabulous and inexpensive Malaysian beaches, to which people go for rest and the feeling of paradise, are located around Kuala Lumpur, the city serves as a kind of "staging post" between "fairy tale" and "civilization".

That is why the city often "passes" by travelers who perceive it exclusively as a transit point. But this perception is not entirely true, since you can live in this metropolis and take turns touring all the beaches of Malaysia, choosing the best one. It is much more convenient than moving from beach to beach with luggage.

And for those who do not like to travel anywhere, but only on the sand by the waves do not want to spend their entire vacation, a vacation in Kuala Lumpur is the best solution, because, although there are no comfortable paradise beaches in the metropolis itself, only 30 km from its central streets, where most of the hotels are concentrated, there is an excellent beach - Port Dickson.

Therefore, speaking about the beaches of Kuala Lumpur, and not all of Malaysia as a whole, they are talking about Port Dickson beach.

Port Dickson Beach

What is so modestly called Port Dickson Beaches in travel brochures is actually 20 kilometers of endless beach complexes stretching from the small town of Port Dickson to Cape Ratchado.

There is really everything here, both for a single unhurried relaxation, and for a fun youth holiday, as for spending family leisure time with children of any age, except, of course, the smallest ones, and for exploring the underwater beauty with scuba diving.

At the beach complexes of Port Dickson you can do:

  1. Snorkeling.
  2. Windsurfing.
  3. Sailing.
  4. Walking on yachts.
  5. Rowing in a canoe or a simple walk on them.
  6. Water skiing.
  7. Riding scooters.
  8. Scuba diving.
  9. Underwater photography.
  10. Drinking beach cocktails, both low-alcoholic and non-alcoholic.
  11. Walking under the greenery of palm trees, many beaches have beautiful adjoining “groves”.

This is not a complete list of how you can spend time on the beach sands near Kuala Lumpur.

All beaches located here can be divided into two categories:

  • owned by hotels;
  • municipal.

The term "municipal" often causes Russian travelers negative bias, which leads to the fact that such places are simply ignored by them. But this is fundamentally wrong. Municipal beaches are no different from those belonging to hotels, and often even surpass them, in any case, in Kuala Lumpur, or rather, close to it, this is the case.

Private beaches or - owned by hotels, imply an entrance fee, of course, for those who do not live in this hotel. But there is no particular point in staying in them, because if we compare the service, opportunities and conditions directly, absolutely all local hotels are inferior to hotels in the central regions in Kuala Lumpur. In any case, if we compare the three-star category, the most demanded in Malaysia.

corusparadisepd.com

The only exception is the January holiday. Each hotel, in addition to the beach, has magnificent swimming pools, which becomes relevant in the period from late December to early February, when the sea is almost like jelly due to the activity of jellyfish. And, since the season in Malaysia, unlike many other countries, lasts all year round, the demand for seaside hotels in the winter increases significantly.

There are much more municipal beaches, for visiting which no one needs to pay, than there are paid ones. There are a lot of them and finding the most ideal one for your own vacation will not be difficult.

Each of the beaches has a parking lot, again - municipal, that is, it does not require payment, but the list of activities and, in general, the sea itself is different for them. Therefore, it is worth renting a car or simply calling a taxi and going around all absolutely beaches, it will not take much time and will allow you to find the only ideal tropical "fairy tale" to which you will want to return again and again.

Particular attention should be paid to two municipal beaches - Blue Lagoon and Cape Rachado.

Blue Lagoon

Blue Lagoon - family place... There is a strip of picnic area here. There is an opportunity to play beach volleyball and basketball and much more. There is also an active nightlife here, but again all of the Open Air parties are perfectly decent and family oriented.

There are always a lot of people here, in general the place is very noisy and cheerful. Laughter, screams, some kind of thrashing, loud music - that's what you will meet in the Blue Lagoon. You need to travel here with small children, since the bay is very shallow and it is almost impossible to drown here, but walking up to your waist in clear water and collecting all kinds of pebbles or shells from the bottom is very possible.

The Blue Lagoon is located 15 km south of Port Dikson, that is, from the center of Kuala Lumpur to it about 42-46 km, depending on how you go. Almost all hotels in the metropolis organize "beach flights", that is, they take them to municipal beaches and pick up their guests from there every day.

You need to sign up for them in advance, and on which beaches and at what time transfers are organized, you should check at the reception in the hotel itself or in advance, at the stage of booking a room in it.

The lagoon itself is surrounded by low cliffs covered with forests. There is a bird sanctuary park nearby, where you can also walk if you want, paying 2 ringits (local currency) for the entrance. The beach itself is full of bungalows, cozy corners and everything you need for a good rest, and boats and canoes just stand on the shore and are available to everyone.

Although the beach is always full of people, find it empty picturesque corner for beautiful photos it is not difficult, because the relief of the Blue Lagoon is quite complex, as if divided into many cozy small territories. There are never winds here, the sea is ideal all year round, except for the period of jellyfish activity, and the cleanliness of the sand and water will surprise even the most biased and demanding tourists.

Cape Rathado

Cape Rachado beach is located at the foot of Tanjung Tuan cliff, close to the most famous botanical garden-reserve in Malaysia, the entrance to which will cost 2 ringits, however, like any other reserve along the coast.

The reserve is designed for comfortable walks and authentic photos at the same time. All the paths here are asphalted, so you can safely walk even in the rain. All descents and ascents are equipped with ladders or bridges, with mandatory handrails. The plants themselves are not artificially “cared for” at all - this is the most common tropical forest.

All paths lead to the top of the promontory, on which there is a Portuguese lighthouse, built in the 16th century. Of course, since that time it has been reconstructed more than once and looks quite reliable and even modern. The lighthouse is open to the public and you can take stunningly beautiful pictures with views of the sea from it.

Moreover, in good weather, that is, almost always, from here you can see not only the entire bay, but also the coast of the Indonesian Sumatra, located almost forty kilometers from observation deck lighthouse.

One of the paths leads to the Cape Rachado beach, you can get to it even bypassing the reserve, but it is shorter and more interesting to go through the tropical forest with "decent sidewalks".

The beach is very secluded. It is always uncrowded, quiet and nothing interferes with either relaxation or enjoying the sounds of the sea and the singing of birds. The water is clean, the sand is almost snow-white. On the territory there are a lot of bungalows, hammocks, gazebos and everything else, and all this is located in very unexpected places.

For those seeking maximum privacy, there is simply no better option. This corner of a lonely paradise and absolute peace is located only 50-55 (depending on the route) kilometers from the center of Kuala Lumpur.

There is no civilization at Cape Rathado, so when you are going here, you must remember to take water, food or whatever else you might need. If you want to ride along the most picturesque bay, it will not be difficult to find a canoe or a boat, they stand along the water line.

staticflickr.com

Of course, in addition to these two, completely accessible and not requiring payment, beaches, there are many others, each of which has its own unique charm and its own zest, whether it be underwater photography or sailing races, scooters or leisurely catamarans. There are many beaches near Kuala Lumpur and you just need to find the ideal one among them.

If there is no desire to stay in the metropolis, but there is an intention to see such an unusual country as Malaysia, in general, then from Kuala Lumpur you can go to absolutely any island, to any of the beach complexes or hotels in the country, of which there are a lot.

As travelers tell about their vacation in Kuala Lumpur in reviews, this place is almost universal, here you can find everything for every taste.

Getting around is very simple - to the beaches and back by transfers from the hotel, and on your own - by a rented car or taxi. The prices for these services are very low, so there is no need to understand the routes of local bus transport.

The local monetary unit is stably between 13-14 rubles, regardless of the month of the year, prices are also stable, only jellyfish are not stable in Malaysia, and then only in January.

  • Tours for May around the world
  • Last Minute Tours around the world

The islands of Malaysia are not only exotic nature, sandy beaches, humid and hot climate and an amazing mixture of at least three cultures - Malay, Chinese and Indian, but also numerous attractions that can be seen by taking a tour by land or diving deep under water. In total, there are more than a thousand islands in Malaysia, and almost forty of them are protected areas.

The largest island, whose territory is not wholly owned by the Malays, is the third largest island in the world, Borneo or Kalimantan (Indonesian version of the name). The Langkawi archipelago, which includes about a hundred islands, Penang and Tioman, is also significant in size.

Diving in Malaysia can be one of the main attractions. The rich flora and fauna, sunken ships and much more have long turned the local depths into a popular diving area among divers of various qualifications. You can explore the underwater world, for example, by relaxing on the small island of Tioman, located just over 30 km from Peninsular Malaysia, or by visiting national park named after Tunku Abdul Rahman. This marine reserve consists of five islands and is located a few kilometers from the capital of the state of Sabah in East Malaysia.

On the islands of Malaysia

Island climate

The main feature of the Malay climate is that the temperature does not change much throughout the year. On average, it varies from +25 to +32 ° C. Sharp changes, typical for other countries, do not occur here. High humidity and rainy seasons can cause discomfort to holidaymakers. The rainy season is most pronounced on the East Coast, with heavy rainfall and sea storms lasting from mid-autumn to early spring. So at this time it is not recommended to come to the country for either beach lovers or divers.

One of the consequences of high humidity throughout the country is the presence of mosquitoes, which are carriers of malaria. If the risk of contracting this disease in West Malaysia is considered to be zero, then those who travel to Borneo are simply required to take a course of a preventive drug. The world's oldest jungle is fraught with this danger.

This article will focus on two island resorts in Malaysia - Langkawi and Pananga. This brief overview, I hope, will help you find the best option for a holiday on these islands. So let's go!

Langkawi island is the main island resort and the most famous among tourists. It can be considered an example of a classic resort in Southeast Asia. It is perfect to become a starting point for a voyage across this exotic region of the planet. Langkawi will be convenient for both tourists who came with the help of a travel agency and independent travelers - with or without travel experience behind their backs. The infrastructure of the resort will provide a comfortable rest for newlyweds or families; for those who like to unwind and escape from lying on the beach, there are several excursions - for example, to mangroves or a cave with bats. Here you can see a rare species of eagle with brick-colored wings or such an unusual animal as horseshoe crabs. Langkawi is a duty free zone and is known as a place to buy alcohol, which is a rarity in this Muslim country, as well as cigarettes.

Beach areas are located near the airport, next to the main tourist area... There are shops and restaurants near the hotels, and the local aquarium is also nearby. It is inferior in scale to the capital city, but it is also rich in representatives of the marine fauna, so you should not ignore it.

There is no public transport here - only taxis with a fixed price or hourly rate, as well as rentals: bicycles, mopeds and cars. You can agree with a taxi driver to work for you for a couple of days, drive around the sights.

Or by bus directly from Bangkok - first to Hat Yai pier, and then by ferry to Langkawi.

Penang can also be reached by ferry.

Penang island will not be able to please beach lovers - this resort is not for them. Cleanliness local beaches do not shine, the abundance of jellyfish also does not dispose to water procedures. But in this area the spirit of the times is strong, here the influence of China and England is powerfully felt in architecture. And, of course, the traditions of Malaysia itself. The British greatly influenced the culture of the island, the city of Georgetown, in particular, is full of colonial style. The Chinatown area will delight you with old houses that have been standing since the time of the first Chinese settlers. Some of them have been standing for several centuries. The landscapes of the city, pleasing to the eye of a tourist who climbed the Penang Hill, are stunning. You can get here by cable car - the height of the hill is 830 meters. There is also the largest temple in Southeast Asia - Kek Lok Si, in the style of construction of which Thai, Chinese and Burmese traditions are reflected. Here is the Ban Po Thar pagoda, which has a height of thirty meters.

Panang is available from big land", Since it is connected to it by a bridge. This is a structure 13.5 kilometers long. You can get there on your own by rented transport or by bus. Such a trip will save you money, but it will kill a lot of time. It will take five hours to get from the capital. You can get to Penang and by ferry from Langkawi. This will take about three hours. Well, the fastest and easiest way is by plane from Kuala Lumpur, fly in 50 minutes. Or from Langkawi - 35.

If, in addition to visiting the many attractions and admiring the nature of Malaysia, you want to witness a magnificent celebration national holidays , then you need to carefully choose the time and city or region in the country. After all, local holidays are still fun! But you need to remember that some holidays are celebrated only in some regions, while others are celebrated throughout the country... The latter include Prophet Muhammad's birthday(in January), Chinese New Year(January February), Labor Day(The 1 of May), Vesak(may 13), Birthday of the King of Malaysia(June 7), Eid al Adha(July 28-29), Hari Merdeka(Independence Day, August 31), Day of Malaysia(16 of September), Eid al-Adha(October 5), The first day of Muharram(the first month of the Muslim calendar, October 25), Christmas(December 25). That is, even New Year January 1 (which is here called Hari Tahun Baharu) is not celebrated everywhere at all - in the districts of Kelantan, Johor, Kedah and a couple more, they do not even think to celebrate it. Or the Indian holiday Diwali, popular throughout the country, is not celebrated in Sarawak (well, maybe only in families, but not at the state level), but is celebrated in all other places. In general, if you want to witness the most magnificent and colorful events, go straight to the capital, Kuala Lumpur. For example, to a festival Diwali... It is sometimes called "Deepavali" or "Festival of Lights". This is the main Hindu festival. The celebration symbolizes the victory of good over evil, therefore, candles, fireworks and lanterns are everywhere in the city, which decorate statues of animals and gods, people give each other gifts, read prayers to Lakshmi (the goddess of wealth and prosperity). Due to the manner of celebration and ceremonies, many compare this day with the pagan harvest festivals.
Diwali happens in late October - early November. During the days of the holiday, several events related to the Hindu gods are celebrated at once. Typically, the festival lasts five days, and the third day of Diwali marks the official start of the Hindu New Year.
Before Deepavali, you need to clean and decorate the house and prepare special family meals, and then the processions and fireworks begin. For the lushest celebration, head to Little India in Kuala Lumpur. Buying new clothes is an important part of the holiday. And, of course, Indian food! Delicious snacks murukku in large bazaars are especially popular. People also visit Hindu temples, participate in the creation of patterns from colored rice. (kolam), henna tattoos are done on the streets, Indian dance performances are held. The beauty!

Further, Vesak - Buddhist holiday in honor of the birth, enlightenment and death (departure to parinirvana) of Gautama Buddha.
Local temples are decorated, in the evening paper lanterns (a symbol of enlightenment) begin to shine everywhere. Oil lamps are placed in the garden at the temples, and residents give each other postcards with images of memorable events from the life of Buddha. In Vesak, residents go to temples and monasteries, light incense sticks there, and meditate.

There is a tradition to walk around the monastery three times (in honor of the three Buddhist jewels). These days, you cannot engage in agriculture, which will somehow harm living beings.
They bring food to the temples, make charitable donations and other good deeds. Vesak is celebrated especially pompously in areas with a large number Chinese, Sri Lankan or Thai among other inhabiting peoples - in Penang, Perak, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor (and in every Buddhist temple throughout the country).

Further, Ramadan... This is a month of obligatory fasting for Muslims.
Usually takes place in July. The most important holiday is during the daytime (from the beginning of dawn to sunset) Muslims do not eat, drink, or smoke. from eating, drinking, smoking and intimacy. Most restaurants and shops are open these days, but with the exception of many Malay restaurants that either close completely or only open at dusk. The best part of this holiday is the night markets where you can taste a variety of delicious treats. And also the fact that many restaurants and hotels are cutting prices.
But on the other hand, the service gets a little worse during Ramadan - you can understand how hard it is to serve guests at such a difficult time. A little patience! By the way, during Ramadan, ferries and buses change their normal operating hours. And the end of Ramadan Eid al Adha, is celebrated very magnificently.

Before the holiday, alms are collected, which goes to the poor, during the holiday Muslims perform a festive ritual prayer, dress beautifully, set a magnificent table, call neighbors, relatives and friends, give gifts, have fun, ask each other for forgiveness.

One more interesting holiday, which just falls on the high tourist season - Taipusam... It is a Hindu festival that is celebrated in January or February and usually lasts three days.
Again, the holiday is based on religious events, and more specifically, the goddess Parvati gave the spears to the god of war Murugan, with which he killed the demon. In general, the holiday symbolizes the victory of good over evil and truth over falsehood. On this day, you will see numerous rites of worship of this god of war, including in the form of dances - the kavadi dance is performed by all the Hindus of the city. This holiday is most massively celebrated in Kuala Lumpur: in the early morning hours, pilgrims go from the temple of Sri Maha Mariamman to the sacred Caves of Batu (the final part of the procession is overcoming 272 steps).
Pilgrims carry with them a golden chariot, where the statue of God Murugan is located. The path of 15 kilometers is made by thousands of local residents, in national clothes, it looks incredible! It is believed that those who take part in the procession perform an act of thanksgiving for past happy moments or future ones, or, conversely, it is an act of repentance for wrongdoing. Many of the walkers pierce the body with metal hooks or thorns (apparently those who have sinned. In the caves they remove these pieces of iron and wounds), while others carry a pot of milk on their heads.

If you are looking to attend a festival in the Malaysian capital, Thaipusam is hard to beat. Slightly more modest, albeit no less colorful, processions take place in Georgetown, Ipoh (Perak), and on the island of Pangkor.
